For someone like me who has completely pretty much suppressed every emotion because of childhood trauma this video is a complete pathway to freedom of unresolved emotions. For me this so much more than a guitar lesson. I found your channel about an hour ago and I'm going through all your videos one by one. You are an excellent teacher and even though I don't understand most of it....I can clearly tell if I spend the time and absorb the information given I will understand the content. Thank you so much for all of it🙏

In natural minor I tend to visualize everything on the fretboard in terms of the relative major. In that scheme, where the tonic is written as the vi and the bIII Is written as the I, the harmonic minor seventh chords look like this: IM7#5 iim7 III7 IVM7 V°7 vimM7 viim7b5

Another great lesson. So enlightening to know where these chords come from and how they are built. And, by the way, the evolution in the style of the videos is very nice. The graphics are much more clear and easy to follow now. And the split screen effect is very helpful as well. Keep up the good work.

Hey Jared, I don't know how I will ever thank you! You are the best teacher ever. I have been playing the guitar for a while but my theory knowledge has been rusty since I started playing. (7 years now). I must say your series has really opened my eyes to a whole new world on guitar. The theory, which a lot of books makes complicated, you are the true solution! You make the whole process exciting and maaan! I truly don't know how I can pay you back for your channel. Big thanks!

Wow, this is so great to hear! I'm so glad that the videos are helping you out and filling in information. I totally agree that a lot of theory books make things more confusing and complicated than they could be and end up not helping much. Your comment means a lot and helps me know that I'm on the right track with wanting to help people learn this stuff in a way that works and is fun and interesting. Cheers! -Jared

I'm running out of good things to say. Thanks for producing this incredible content! So nice to have this 'missing' piece explained. I have often wondered whether a major 7 existed in a minor context, I didn't realize that Harmonic Minor was the answer.

Glad you found this one useful! Thanks for the comment. That minor-major7 chord also exists as the "i" chord of the melodic minor scale, which is next week's vid ;) so it could come from either one.

I have been looking for this video for years. I'd like to comment on the section where you were explaining why you were going fast and feeling slightly bad about it. There are very, very few courses on youtube ( that are any good) for intermediate players. I already had all the theory training to understand this without a blink or hesitation, but I couldn't find it after years of looking, someone to just walk through building the chords, with the screenshottable graphics that were really nicely made. The same thing happens with intermediate foreign language speakers, who have learned on the street, but can only find extreme beginners or extreme advanced lessons. I am very subscribed now and will go through all your lessons but really wanted to say thank you thank you.

Don t worry it takes time. I M slow and it took me a good 10 years because i wanted shortcuts there is no shortcuts . If I was listening in 1 year i ll be ready So I re invent the wheel 😂 Like he said you have to learn how to create a triad three notes. Basically let say you skip 1 note and play the next like C D bE F G bA B So C bE G that s what we call triad Than D F bA etc etc and just play note by note 1st on the same string just to get the taste of the sound After that go for his full lesson He is amaising Don t be hard on yourself Music is a lifetime process Cheers mate!!!!!

@soundguitar
@soundguitar Год назад
They're used briefly all the time but not strictly. Any song that's minor with the V chord as major is borrowing it from harmonic minor. Songs that have diminished 7 also are often borrowing it from Harmonic minor. The others are more rare.

There is one thing i dont understand if my guitar is tuned a whole step down do i need to play all the chords a whole step down also ?
@soundguitar
@soundguitar 3 года назад
If all your strings are tuned a whole step down you can just play it like normal and everything you play will technically be a whole step down but you can still think of it in standard tuning if that's what you're used to. If you play other people though or are using chord symbols to read off of then you need to transpose what you're playing thinking a whole step up. Do if the chord symbol says C then you need to play a D shape to play a C chord, but thinking that way only matters if you're needing to have the correct labels. Playing on your own you can just play whatever as a normal guitar. Does that answer the question? Let me know if not. Thanks! -Jared

What was that shred thing you did in the intro
@soundguitar

that was basically playing down the A Harmonic Minor scale starting on the 5th scale degree (with a quick slur up to b6 and back first), then landing on the 7 (G#) on the 6th string and making a diminished chord off of that note (which is the 7th chord of the scale just like I teach in the lesson), then resolving to A minor. hope that helps! :) -Jared
