Chow is well loved in HK. A genuine down to earth good guy. Also, he didn't sell his soul for money and bowed down under pressure like a lot of people in HK. Especially the celebrities. Respect!
Personally, I look at him like the Asian version of Keanu Reeves. He was rich but never spent money on luxuries. I miss my childhood days when his movies were always playing on my local TV on Saturday nights.
I've been watching Chow Yun Fat movies with my mother who's living in a nursing home. She really likes him and by watching all his movies I can say he is a very versatile actor. I just knew him through his big hits like Crouching Tiger and Hard Boiled etc. He performs well in shoot-them-up, romantic, historical, and comedies. He is such a humble person and down to earth guy. As one of the comments below said he kind of like Keanu Reeves. Sad about the pregnancy tragedies but at least he and Jasmine Tan have a beautiful marriage. They are such a good looking couple! Chow is a legend in his own right...i like his film Replacement Killer. We dont need to compare him with Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee. Compare an apple with apple.
Wow what a prolific actor. I did not know of all these movies he has done most of his life. China has a treasure with him. His good looks and great acting have carried him far. He excels as the bad guy. But, he has a few comedy gigs that are really good too.

My first exposure to Chow was when “the Bund” arrived in the US in the form of Video tapes for rental. It was well written and Chow maneuvered to be the crime boss without violence. Since then he has a nick name in that translates into “crocked lip Fat” because of the way he talks. Good to learn is also not a bad guy.
In Hong Kong it is very common for artists be it actors or singers to have English names like Andy Lau, Jackie Chan but Chow Yuen Fatt is one of the few who goes by his Chinese name. Fun fact Chow Yuen Fatt has not worked with Jackie Chan for a good reason which I won't mention here. I didn't say he doesn't have one, he doesn't go by it. It is a very presidential name 😁
16:45 Mandarin is not a dialect language, it is the official Chinese language. Cantonese, Chow's mother tongue however is a dialect from the Guangdong province of China

A few year ago Mr Chow announced that after his passing he will donate all his money and assets to charity .. knowing he is not speaking the truth and he living a thrifty life last week he announced that he have no intention to donate his hard earned money to those charity organisations.. blaming his wife control his spending double talk and hypocrisy
