Yep I came hammering down a viscous trail of steeps and burns on my old Trek hardtail from 2005 at age 49, hitting big dirt jumps to with the suspension clanking lol. Pissed the dudes right off with their full suspension £5000 pound bikes. It's the rider not the bike.
You new-school kids have NO idea what it's like to have your brake pads wear all the way through your rim on a downhill and the resulting rim-blowout. LOL. Us old guys remember brakes that don't work wet, gears that don't change now and tires that were experimental and worked like crap...all while bombing down stuff that would make your mom cry. Love this vid!!!
Chris Akrigg up there with Martyn Ashton, Steve Peat, The Athertons, Team GB cyclists, Danny MacAskil as pure inspiration for picking up your bike (what ever it maybe) and getting out riding and having fun doing it! Thank you!!!
I have a 1994 retro mtb close to the bike in this video. Seeing Chris showing whats it is capable off is very inspiring. Really, the machine doesn’t matter. Skill does.
This is awesome!!! Just got back into (gentle so far) riding on my 1989 Marin this was exactly what I needed to see. Crossing that river was... well unbelievable to be honest! Thank you... I've even got the neon (not pink!) bum bag still from my original purchase.
Chris manages to capture the joy of riding in this film! Maybe it's just the skids, wheelies and the rattle of a rigid bike that reminds me of my youth? Amazing... Again!
Man I've got one of these, its such a cool bike. When I was a kid, this was mountain biking. No suspension, steel frames, canti brakes, twitchy geometry. It was fun as hell.
They were inventing the moves for this new sport back then on rigid bikes with no suspension .Fabio, Danny and all the rest of them owe these guys and gals a debt of gratitude. Great video of how it was "back in the day".
Wow caputered the early days perfectly, the look back, never gets lame. Awesome, thats exactly how all early bike videos were!only without Chris's super skilled riding. This is me now on my rigid Fat bike!!! Get out on your Fat bike chris
Muy bueno, retro bike, retro clothes! Mr. Akrigg ya hacía falta saber de usted, me recuerda a mi primera mountain bike, claro nunca pude hacer ningún truco de esos. Buen video.
Akrigg pretty made it impossible to blame the bike for unskilled riding now! But I sure as hell hope I get a crack at that sweet as new old school bike!
Just how I remember 90's MTBing, sorry ATBing. Only the bars were a lot skinnier and the seat a lot higher. Oh and you forgot the bar ends, perfect addition for extra knarly crashes. Keep up the good work Chris
