Between 84'-93' Olajuwon beat Jordan 11 out of 16 times including going 5-1 against Jordan's 3 peat Bulls. Then after Jordan got Rodman on the Bulls and Olajuwon was old and injured Jordan went 5-2 against Olajuwon making their career head to head matchups 13-10 in favor of Olajuwon. I am so grateful to have grown up watching The Dream play. He is criminally underrated, quite frankly. What people don't talk about enough is this. Shaq had Prime Kobe and D-Wade. Kareem had Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson (arguably the two greatest PG's) for his ENTIRE career. Bill Russell played on teams that had the entire starting five as future hall of famers. Wilt had Jerry West. Hakeem had a bunch of role players! The best he had was an aging and nearly 33 year old Clyde Drexler added to the team mid way through the season. Dream would have won 6-7 rings if he had those guys in their primes along side him. Hakeem dominated Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Robert Parish, Patrick Ewing, Shaq and David Robinson in the playoffs. Hakeem could guard any player on the court regardless of position at an elite level. To this day, his moves have and will never be replicated. Hakeem and MJ are the two greatest two-way players in league history, and quite frankly, this isn't even debatable. Oh, and speaking of Jordan, he said Hakeem was the only player he ever feared. He also picked him as his center for his starting five. Nuff' said.

The best defensive AND offensive center in the history of the game. I know Kareem is the all time leading scorer and has the unstoppable sky hook, but Hakeem's face up perimeter game, ballhandling, assortment of post moves going both ways and passing from the post makes him the most unguardable center in the history of the game...DEFINITELY the best I've seen and I saw all of the 80s and 90s great centers. You could slow Shaq down by fouling him and you could play Kareem physical...you couldn't do either with Dream. Just the total package on both ends.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...Olajuwon's run through the 1995 NBA playoffs remains the most amazing thing I've ever seen in that league. That Rockets team...a 6th seed, beat a 59, 60, 62, and 57 win team on their way to the title. All on the road. And Hakeem cooked in all four series. Against a very good Jazz team that would be in Game 7 of the conference finals the next year, then push MJ's Bulls harder than any other team in the Finals the two years after that: 35/8.5/4 with 2.5 blocks on 57% shooting. Then Barkley's Suns, who were probably the most talent team top to bottom in the league: 29.5/9/3.5 with 2.5 blocks on 51% shooting. Then head to head against the #1 team overall and the league MVP in David Robinson, he just goes OFF: 35.5/12/5 with 4 blocks and 1.5 steals on 56% shooting. Against the league MVP. He DOMINATED Robinson. And just for good measure, in the Finals against young Shaq: 33/11.5/5.5 on 48.5% shooting with 2 blocks and 2 steals a game. He did this in his age 33 year. Those two Rockets titles were no flukes. They had Hakeem.

From Jordan’s rookie year through the 1989-90 season, Jordan’s Bulls logged just a 10-20 regular season record and 6-12 postseason record against Thomas’ Pistons - good for 16-32 overall. Jordan went 9-4 against Thomas in the regular season and 4-0 in the playoffs after the 1989-90 season - 13-4, overall.

With living in "H" town (Houston) during the days of Phi Slama Jama, to me the greatest regular college basketball team (and I never liked college basketball), in known history. We thought that Houston would pick the local boy Clyde Drexler when he came out of college a year earlier than Hakeem and then Hakeem when he came out but instead Clyde went to the Blazers and we were mad. I watched that dude his whole career and was astonished by his play on the court. To me he was the best center of all time. Yes I watched Wilt, Russel, Kareem, Ewing, Robinson, Morning, Parish, Malone play. I have never seen the great footwork, ball control, defensive prowess that this man had. Didn't really move like the centers that we were used to. The man had a great game.

I think Olajuwon is underrated because 3 of the 4 of the other GOAT centers - Wilt, Kareem and Shaq - all played and won for the Lakers, one of the biggest sports franchises in the world. Bill Russell, the greatest winner in sports history and who also played for the storied Celtics, is the other. But Hakeem absolutely belongs up there with them.
