Maybe there wasn't any pushback cuz they're two former players and understand exactly what type of beast Hakeem was. Trust me, it's not outrageous to say that Dream was the best big man, he dominated both ends of the floor.

Could Shaq have led a team to a championship without having another Hall of Famer on his team like Hakeem did? I think because of his weakness at the free throw line teams could have figured them out. There was no stopping Hakeem. Shaq needed the best guard in the league (Kobe and Wade) to win chips. 2006 Wade wasn't as good as Kobe, but much like Kobe was the closest thing to MJ, Wade was the closest you were going to get to Kobe. Shaq wasn't even the Heat's 2nd leading scorer in the 2006 Finals. That was the immortal Antoine Walker. Shaq got swept 5 times (94, 95, 96, 98,99) before Kobe became the best guard in the league in Spring 2000. Hakeem needed the Vernon Maxwell/Sam Cassell backcourt in 1994 and 33 year-old past his prime Clyde Drexler in 1995. What does that tell you?

But then every time a debate comes up about what players are the best, all they can talk about are rings. You heard it in this video from Chris. "Tim Duncan has 5 rings!" Also Brussard and Rob miss the point. Interviewing players and starts is all about DEBATING to see who is right. We (the fans) don’t always want a continuous conversation. We just want the players to feel comfortable enough to say whatever the feel, weather we agree or not, weather stats support what the feel or not. Say what you feel. The players dont want to be interrogated for 30 minutes live on air and then have you guys talk mess about them after they leave. The players who interview other players at least have some sort of accountability to the players because they are peers. You guys just see the players as a means to get your next “hot take” to go viral.

It isn't crazy to consider Hakeem greater than Shaq, although I personally did not for a long time. Clearly, Hakeem was the most skillful offensive center, ever (until Jokic). He redefined what centers could do, and players still take a pilgrimage to learn from him. And then he was an extremely great defender as well. 5 all-defense 1st team selections to Shaq's 0. 9 total all-defense team selections, to Shaq's 3. 2 DPOYs, and arguably deserving of a 3rd in the year it went to Jordan. 3 block titles and 2 rebounding titles, to Shaq's 0 on both. Chris wants to talk playoff scoring in favor of Shaq? Hakeem's best scoring for an entire playoff season was 37.5 ppg, and Shaq's was 30.7. Hakeem also had a higher average ppg in the playoffs for their careers. Shaq's hardware advantage is a ROTY (which no one really ranks as a high award), 2 scoring titles to 0, and two more rings and one more FMVP. I think Hakeem's total play overcomes Shaq's career, making him a (clearly) better player with an arguably greater career.

people don't understand how big Shaq actually was. For ex. Dwight Howard(very underrated playerimo ) that was a crazy physical freak and arguably the biggest and ateongeat of his era was 6'10 280lbs in his absolute heaviest. Its rumoured he could bench press 440lbs which is insane for those type of long arms. Shaq was 7'2 345. Thats 4 inches and 65 lbs bigger than Dwight. If you takw off 4 inches and 65 lbs from Dwight you will get 6'6 215. Essentially Kobe Bryant. Thats how Big Shaq was. Essencially the gap in heofht and weight between h8m and Dwight was that of Dwight and Kobe. Shaq was a mythological creature

At the same time they show that they understand this is the trend and is where media has been headed for the last 10 years and they are fearful the journalism degree wont hold the same weight if traditional media doesn’t have the power to put their thumb on the scales of who’s opinions get heard/taken seriously. To me, when it comes to Shaq V. Dunacn V. Hakeem, it depends on what you prefer. Each guy won multiple championships with there style of play. Shaq was arguably the most dominant player to ever play other than Wilt. Hakeem was arguably the most offensively AND defensively skilled big man to ever play, and Duncan was the most consistent and fundamentally sound big man to ever play. They all brought unique and different dimensions to the game that led to TITLES for there respective teams. Horry played with all 3 in there prime and PEAK. He would have a much better insight than any of us. I agree with these former athletes almost never pushing back and challenging perspectives, but Horry choosing The Dream over Shaq and Timmy isn't something that should be seen as offensive LOL

Think about it: beat all great centers on their prime (Jabbar, Ewing, Robinson, Shaq) power forwards on their prime (Malone, Barkley) and specially in 1994 he did not had a single all star. And even in 86 and 95 all he had was Sampson as rookie (86) and Drexler (95). Shaq had Kobe and beat past prime Robinson, 34 year old Mutombo and really washed Sabonis.

It's really not that hard of an argument to make. Shaq's game was power. He physically superior to the centers that played in his era, particularly as he began to put on weight from his Miami days on. The Dream started as power player, but worked on his game to become a much more diversified scorer than Shaq ever was. The Dream was a slightly better rebounder, and a far superior defensive player.
