Love seeing Chris Buck getting more attention and recognition! Incredibly expressive guitarist!

Chris is one of the best guitarists alive right now...there's something about his feel and command of melody that trumps the shredders..just such tasteful playing.

I agree, just endless shredding is great but boring. Listen to Carlos Santana, doubt he can shred etc, but what he gets out of one nite can be stunning.

In the early 80s, my vibrato sucked! My idea at the time was to bend a note a half or full step and use the vibrato bar looking back in hindsight that was pretty much the lazy way of using vibrato until I made it a habit to continue practicing for years until I actually got into a comfort zone anytime I felt like using it without a vibrato bar... great tips and great video!

There's nothing wrong with that. It's as much a "collection" hobby as it is a "playing" one. I've gone a little crazy over the last 12 months though. The sales atm are causing me much anxiety as I'm trying to go "cold turkey". ✌️

Hopefully Chris and his band mates at CB will get enough backing to do a proper US tour. I wonder if anyone's ever independently crowd funded something like that...
@andrewbecker3700

I think he realizes the better he feels about the direction his playing is going, the less there is to prove. Simplifying the sometimes stretched out sections of songs to create some contrast with fewer notes is the sign of a master. Iommi,Clapton,Angus.
@benallmark9671
@benallmark9671 Год назад
I agree with you. Funny I watched a Tom Bukovak video earlier and he was talking about this exact same thing.
@andrewbecker3700
@andrewbecker3700 Год назад
@@benallmark9671 If I had half the skills Chris is blessed with, I'd probably make everyone nauseous with my endless noodling. The less is more formula can be applied to most styles of guitar playing with great success. If you can get a Rick Ruben type involved in the production, they have a knack for being able to cherry pick the material and streamline the songs into hits sometimes. What most people wanna hear, may not be the guitar wizards best stuff.

I think learning the intervals on one string and playing horizontally could be a huge development for me. I f anyone knows any good exercises for developing this, please let me know.

How would one go about practicing tip 1? Take one scale and run it along just one string?
@roddiculousguitar
@roddiculousguitar Год назад
Yeah, start with the major scale. Put on a backing track ,say in C major (or just a C major chord over and over), then run up and down the C major, saying the intervals out loud as you play them... 1, 2, 3, ... etc. Pay attention to the sound each interval makes too. Then can do the same with natural minor, pentatonics, etc.

Funny for me to hear (as an old guy with 58 and playing guitar for more than 45 years), when a young guy like Chris says: "The older I get, the less I play". How will this end someday?

The one he's playing at the end is a Fender. You can see the logo come into "frame" a couple of times. I'm pretty sure I've seen him play a squire before though.

Really interesting, especially the vibrato bit......given that you never seem to vibrato on a bent note (polar opposite of say Paul Kossoff) which give s very distinct sound to your playing......and shows the accuracy needed to bend and hold absolutely in tune. Not and easy thing.
