I, for example, am not as desgusted now waching this pair as i was in the begining. I became so acostumed with them that in this movie i see Almost nothing wrong with it until i remember overwise. I don´t really get why people are disgusted. I´ve always felt that as long as it´s two consenting adults (or teenagers of similar age) then anything should be allowed really. Obviously preferable to not have kids in this situation but really incest has been completely normal up until recent times. People married their cousins and even siblings all the time. As was homosexuality up until the rise of Christianity. Now this is considered completely taboo. Why? I mean as long as they don´t have kids then who cares?

It’s a very sad and cruel story. I have read all the books and I cried so much. If you want to read something dark with so much drama, I recommend you to read flowers in the attic.
You have to keep in mind they were kept in a attic for almost 3 years with no other human contact I’m not saying that it is right cuz it’s not but I understand a little so I’m not as disgusted as I was in the beginning
When their mother asked Cathy if she really loves her brother and she said "Yes I love him, you made me love him." And this actually makes me cry. Because I understand now. This is incest. They are disgusting, crazy, mad and all those bad things we want to say about them but we couldnt truly never understand what they'd been through in that attic. They only have each other to lean on during those darkest times. Only them can understand and accept each others' scars. They made it through and will make it through because of each other. And this movie is a lesson how things like this will brought only bad things to the family. It becomes a family curse and it will never stop. Its not their fault its the environment they grew up in. This might have happened already in our society right now. And it just makes me sad 🥺
Also their grandmother accused them of doing those things long before they actually did it and their mother broke the taboo for them when she told them their father was her half-uncle, both planted that idea inside their heads and by locking them up together it was only a matter of time until they did so, it wasn´t their fault
their story is so tragic and sad but i can’t help love them anyway. when you take into account their parents relationship (uncle and niece), their grandmother continuously accusing them of incest before anything even happens between them, along with being locked in a room for three years straight with just each other and their two siblings, the fact that they’re both early teens going through puberty, and having to endure the emotional, physical and mental abuse their mother and grandmother inflicted, it makes sense that they would turn to each other and find love and comfort in each other. imagine how difficult it would be to deal with having feelings for the one person you absolutely never should, while that one person is the only person alive who understands everything you feel and have gone through. its crystal clear that everyone crying “sweet home alabama” has absolutely no idea what this series is about.
I have this theory that their family’s incestuous tendencies may somehow be a genetic thing because their parents did it and so did their son Bart with his sister Cindy but in his case it’s less problematic because she was adopted, also some things that Christopher says suggest that he had feelings for Cathy even before the attic but he never did anything about it because he was aware it was imoral, in one of the sequels their son Jory finds a card Christopher wrote for Cathy for her 13th birthday which happened by the time they were in the attic but supposedly before they started a relationship and there he heavily implies his feelings for her
The fact that this is soo wrong, but given the circumstances, they decided to find comfort in each other. Wrong but justifiable! Also I watched all the sequels and truly loved the storyline. It's Fiction folks, enjoy it without thinking much lol
I really feel bad for them. Everything that they suffered because of their denatured mother, their crazy grandmother and adults blinded by ambition... is insane. The confinement, torture and tragedy they endured at such a delicate age... no wonder it has disturbed them in more that one way. They twisted their world and sibling love they used to have when they were young. They only had each other. After everything they went through, I'm surprised that they aren't serial killers, psychopaths or sociopaths. It's a very sad and disturbing story, you have to watch the movies or read the books to understand them.

Actually Olivia (the grandmother) was very sweet but when she found out Corrine and Christopher were in love she was so unsettled she changed completely after that (we see that in the series Flowers in the Attic: Origins or in the book Garden of Shadows), but in Flowers in the Attic even though Olivia starts very mean and cruel we can see some hints that she starts to care about her grandchildren and be fond of them even if she doesn’t want to show it but as she becomes less mean Corrine becomes more deranged (but we see in the prequel series that she was always deranged)
The grandmother had zero room to judge their relationship. Regardless of how anyone feels about what happened, her actions lead to what happened. The kids were locked in the attic, kept prisoner and abused by their own family. Since they only had each other, this was the end result. It's always ironic how people like that blame others for the fire they themselves started.

You both basically summed up my thoughts cuz I highly doubt that if they weren't locked in an attic for 2 YEARS. Their relationship would be more normal that's the sad part. It's abhorrent but it makes sense.
The sad thing about their relationship was that they really did try to move on. Cathy moved away with Julian to get away from Chris. Chris started a relationship with Sarah to get over Cathy. They both knew that their love was wrong. But they gave each other parts of themselves that they couldn't give to no else. Julian could not only see it, but he could feel it. Sarah was suspicious of them as well.

The show Everybody Hates Chris even made a joke about it, there was this episode when their mother Rochelle went to a book fair in her kids school and then she saw a kid reading Jackie Collins book and took it from her hands because she said she shouldn’t a reading an “adult book”, and then she grabbed another book from the table and she read the title “Flowers in the Attic” and gave it to her because she didn’t know the story but by the title she thought it was more suitable for kids

Uhh did you not watch the movies/read the books? They tried, Cathy had relationships with multiple men and wanted to move on, but after all that time in the attic her and Chris were like codependent, especially after losing their siblings

This was on my recommend less than three days ago, I thought they were cute and then I saw the comments and found out they were siblings, I felt disturbed but interested so I looked for the movie and watched it, I really liked it and I searched to see if there was a book for this and indeed there was. I read the first book in two days, I actually finished it just now... it was a twisted, morbid yet beautiful story, I can confidently say that was one of the best books I’ve ever read, it kept me interested all throughout, wanting to see what was gonna happen next, thats why i finished it so fast. What Cathy and Chris had, as wrong as it is, was one, if not the only good thing that came from them being locked up in that damn attic for nearly 4 years. They were alone, isolated from society with nobody to turn to, to love or care for them, but each other. They only had each other to love so they did, it wasn’t their choice it just happened naturally. Before I watched the movie or read the book, I was pretty revolted by their relationship but after I had heard their full story I was anything but disgusted by their relationship, I was happy that in those long years of suffering and loss that they had endured, they still managed to find strength and love in each other

I love this story so much. It takes u to a different world where nothing feels wrong! I cried so much when the book was finished with Cathy dying in that attic amongst all those paper flowers, waiting to meet her Chris in the heaven❤. Just remembering that scene makes me emotional...
We're same.. their love is beyond to our understanding. I would never hate them. After reading what they have gone through, the movie can't give a justice on how deeper this is. Their talks outside the attic's window, the cries of Christopher Doll after what happened, and their breaking down moment and they only got each other's shoulder. I will forever love them both 🥺
Cathy tried to move on and so did Chris, remember Chris was engaged to another woman in the second movie. But in the end the siblings knew they could never love other people more than they love each other.

Mason dye was undoubtedly the best Chris amongst all the actors. He was most close and handsome to Chris as written in the books❤. And also he was the best actor among all of them. The way he speaks the patience is so much like Chris. His eyes, lips, hair ,face are just as yummy as Chris in the books.
These poor kids,,, they were abused, starved, poisoned and locked in for 3 years, depending on a mom who didn't love them and who even tried, and succeeded with Cory, to kill them. They were victims. I wish they would have ended up in an ordinary family who loved them (and not with Paul who took advantage of Cathy, damaging her and Chris even more). I truly believe their relationship would have ended as soon as they left the attic if they would have been taken care of by the right kind of family
Not just a house, an attic. Where their mother abused and abandoned them & their younger siblings after the father died. While also being abused by their grandmother. They were forced to grow up, become surrogate parents, all while suffering & grieving. It doesn’t help that the grandmother repeatedly accused them of having a relationship before they even understood their own sexuality. Them falling in love was a response to a deeply traumatic time. Those feelings don’t just go away. The fact that they found any happiness, regardless of stigma is all that matters.
@Vic idk I wouldn’t say dig deeper. They mentioned it in the movie, half uncle. And half uncles are only as related as Cousins so it’s not that bad. And incest in general isn’t that bad. This movie series & the Heaven/Casteel Series completely re-evaluated the way I perceive incest. I honestly can’t wait for the Ruby Landry Series their adapting for this year.

True, I also noticed how their whole family tree seems to have incestuous tendencies that may somehow be genetic, Malcolm seemed to have an Oedipus complex over his mother, his daughter Corrine married her half-uncle/brother, their kids Cathy and Chris fell in love and got “married” (we can assume it only happened because of the mental and emotional damage being locked up in that attic caused to both of them but there are hints in the series that Chris had feelings for Cathy even before the attic, but he didn’t do anything about it because he knew it was immoral), and then their son Bart fell in love with Cindy (a little girl they adopted after her biological mother died) even though he was disgusted by their family’s history and tried to fight it he eventually surrendered to his feelings for her then assuming that unlike what he used to think he was not above his parents, there are also Jory’s kids Darren and Deirdre but I don’t think they will continue the circle because they will have normal childhoods with no trauma and with a healthy awareness of the taboo, Cathy even said they were going to have the lives her beloved deceased siblings Cory and Carrie were supposed to have and I think the fact that both their names start with “D” instead of “C” as it was for them represent their generation moving on without their “curse”

I think what I meant/mean and my initial issue was how the music romanticizes their situation and their relationship when it's literally incest which is gross, and their situation isn't normal or jovial at all. Just to clarify. But I agree with you, this songs great and really sad, and so is their situation but the song gives off the wrong vibe for this video because again it's incest and I don't think people, especially young girls, should be idealising relationships like that.

From what I’ve seen, I think people are more so analyzing how their hardships and the abuse they suffered brought them together and made them inevitably romantically attached as they were the only people they had to rely on. Thankfully I don’t think anyone is lost enough to romanticize incest lmao it’s very troubling and of course deeply disturbing. I’m not too familiar with the story but that’s what I took from it at least. But yeah this song is lovely I think it’s really depressing but also beautiful.

The mother never would've received any inheritance from her father if he ever saw her children, so it all came down to the inheritance, their mother locked her children in the attic for 3 years because of money.
@Linda W Actually half uncle. And it’s not as simple as them being locked up & incest happening. Their Grandmother abused them, their mother poisoned them, and all of this happened on the heels of the loss of their father. Which is what led to their mother seeking her inheritance in the first place. Plus the fact that they had to take on the role of parents to their younger siblings, while constantly being accused of incest, all during puberty. A perfect storm of events to bond them together.
It’s about what most V.C Andrews books are about. Children tragically lost in a dark and terrifying world where the normal realms of safety & society have failed them. Typically incest combined with psychological horror & tragedy drama. Very eloquently written in an addictive way. The fact that they found solace in one another & couldnt escape their illicit love is both a reward & a punishment in a symbolic sense. Doomed to repeat the past with the only solution available to their troubled lives. It’s a very good work of literature.
When I was younger I watched this movie by accident on lifetime thinking Dance Moms was on and I remember being so traumatized by the fact that they were actually siblings... To this day I’m still traumatized

I remember 3 years ago randomly finding the movie flowers in the attic one night thinking nothing wrong is gonna happen, then I realized what I was watching and realized there’s more than one movie. I binge watched all the movies in one night. tho they are related which is messed up I like to imagine that they where two random kids who met in an attic and weren’t related at all. they went through a lot together had a family and lived happily ever after.
