I truly do not think these students understand how fortunate they were to not only be in the presence of a legend but to INTERACT WITH HIM?!?! Get out of here this is nuts!! God I would've paid great money to be there I had tons of questions popping up in my head and who better than one of my long time idols Chris Coleman.
He reminds me of my old band director. A big teddy bear with so much passion for music you can see it in his smile. This was so awesome to watch. MI please continue to post these.
Chris always gives such amazing performances. This clinic should called called "Life..." Mr Coleman gives some pretty deep Life teachings beyond drumming/music via sharing his personal ups/downs. Thank you Chris for putting so much "Life" into your music and sharing this gift to the world!
I went on a masterclass last year and the counting thing was drilled into me. I cannot stress how much of a difference it has made. I've counted everything for a year and like chris says its made the world of difference.
I love this bro, humble and inspiring , first saw him play on Israel houghton dvd a good few years ago. Would be great if he came to South Africa and encouraged us drummers here. Much respect Chris
I truly believe that Chris Coleman is the man who has filled the shoes of Buddy Rich (God rest Mr. Rich's soul". No disrespect intended for Buddy, for he is one of my drum mentors, along with Mr. Carl Palmer. I have been watching Chris for a number of years here on RU-vid, and out of all drummers out there that I have seen here on YT, Chris tops them all. He proves that drummers don't need double bass. He does with his right foot what some drummers can only do with double bass. And as you can see, Chris uses the high hats in a way that I have never seen anyone else play them with the pedal. Chris Coleman : Non pareil !
Thank you for this Chris. Your wisdom surpasses your drumming, and that is amazing, and will take you and your drumming to another level, a level I look forward to viewing!
Thank you for this Drum Program and Chris Coleman. Your wisdom is astounding, the way you speak about your passion is so congruent and authentic, you seem to have mastered yourself and have placed that knowledge into your passion, one of which is drumming! I'm inspired.
I've lived in memphis all my life, and I had know idea that you lived here with your grandmother. If I ever knew that I would have looked you up. Thanks for your inspection bud your awesome😎
I've been watching so many drum videos lately and so many drummers have such frighteningly discipline-saturated message. It's a big relief hearing you and being reminded that it's okay to be human. Even just the idea that while drumming you're not always thinking about what you're playing... again it just gives me permission to not be perfect. Thanks.
Chop master, groove blaster, metal faster and made my brain a disaster! What a MONSTER on the skins! I have truely gotten INSPIRED to approach my drumming from a different aspect. Chris Coleman, THANK YOU!!!
Every time I hear him play I'm quickly reminded why I think he's the greatest alive right now. Technically, creatively, and rhythmically just out of this world. How is it that the crowd is just sitting there seemingly aloof, by the way? I wouldn't be able to stop dancing and bobbing.
A total scary powerhouse freak. Love this guy. Smiles and all. First time I witnessed his insanity was at DRUM DAZE in Columbus OH many years ago (don't remember the exact year he was there). He wasn't the headliner, but he should have been. I believe he was the 2nd of 5 players. From that point, I have been a CC follower. What a fun guy, who gets the audience involved.
For the question at 1:23:44 ... I had a gig once that was 7 nights a week for 7 months. One night I randomly tried to do some pull-ups and found that I could comfortably do 5. So I decided to do 5 a day, and add 1 each week. I got up to 17 !!! BUT what I found was, some days I could literally bang out all of them with very little effort, and other days it was a struggle even after the second, although I could still do all of them. So to his question, if discovered that the body isn’t a machine, it ebbs and flows. IF he could have a different “measure” and see at what speed his relaxation changed ...from my particular experience that would be a better/ more realistic indicator Hope that made sense 🎶
I’m so proud of my little bro for his accomplishments if you don’t know I did the second track and the last track for my brother Chris and he took it to another level.Chris you know I love you and when I get well imma do a few more tracks for you stay blessed
Quick polyrhythm reference for folks: Whatever ratio you're talking about (4:3, 3:4, 5:3, 3:5, etc)... think about.... 1) The first number is the "rate". 4:3, the rate would be 4, so 16th notes. 2) Second number is the "grouping".. in 4:3, the grouping is 3. You accent every 3rd note. 3) You play the grouping the number of times indicated by the first number. 4) The number of beats it takes to complete the rhythm is the second number. In 4:3, that's playing the grouping 4 times. In 3 beats. This works for ALL polyrhythms. In 5:3, the RATE is 5. You play 3 beats at the rate of 5. You accent every third note. You play that grouping 5 times and it takes 3 beats to complete. Write it out. That's the math behind the drums.
Accent every third note? Don't know what You mean. When I play 4:3, just the first note is on top of each other. Its not like playing 4 x 16th over 3 x 16th. It's playing Triplets over staight 16th. And I can put the accent on each notes on the 16ths and on each of the triplets so can u Explain that point?
What the hell is he doing?!?!?!?!? To be clear I say this because his ability is off the chart !!!👏👏👏Also only German engineering can handle his sheer power !!!!
