Crazy thing is....This is what metal drummers have been doing since the 70s. In fact, everything he's doing is where most metal drummers start. lol All this stuff is class 101. Take death metal, remove blast beats and double kick beats, bring the tempo down, add groove and dynamics and a little orchestration, boom....gospel chops
