I went to see Rage Against The Machine (with Public Enemy) they played this song with no singer, just a light on an empty mic stand where Chris should have been. One of the most emotional things I've seen.
"This song is called Like a Stone. My name is Chris Cornell. It goes like this". Humility and unabated talent of a real artist. Wish I could have heard him live.
Ron Short I realize how lucky I am to have seen him on his Higher Truth tour a year or so before he passed. I also saw him with Soundgarden. I was in the 12th row and it was one of the best concerts I’ve seen!
Holy, Fuck...no one sings like you anymore, Son. Fucking phenomenal talent. God Bless you in, Heaven. I still cry whenever I hear this but THIS, version?! Holy Hell. 💜💔💜
My mother passed away 6 days ago. I was playing this exact video and also singing to her. It was an honor and privilege that my mom passed peacefully with me singing our favorite song. Say hello to Chris for me Momma. I love you ❤🕊
@@captlucky2320 well to be fair heroin boosts the fuck out of the creative juices. unfortunately this effect is overshadowed by the undying need for more heroin in most cases.
@@duke7143 Freddie doesn't have shit on Chris Cornell. Freddie Mercury was just too poppy, Chris conveyed meaning a lot more sincerely. Let alone that Chris is just a fucking God with his belting compared to your precious mercury, cheers. Freddie was great, Chris was a god. Of course to each his own opinion, I can't convince you if you connect more to Freddie's music. To me Chris Cornell is one of the greatest of all time and certainly above Mercury on the list.
I saw Chris just a few months before he passed, on his Higher Truth tour. Rip Chris, your voice and soul were that of an angel and thank you for letting us hear it.
I used to listen to this song before learning to speak english.. It's been almost 10 years and now that I understand what it says... I can't help it.. I can't stop crying for him. It's just a master piece
Seen him in Glasgow on Higher truth tour... the crowd were in awe... still the best performance I've ever seen! RIP big man. No one sings like you any more
Im battling depression at the moment, 2020-2021 it's been the hardest time in my life. If you're out there going through the same just know that you're not alone, and we can beat this.
When this song was introduced to the band.... they asked Chris who he was waiting for (thinking it was a woman). He replied "Death". This is a suicide song wrapped in religious imagery. One of my favorite artists of all time and what a loss of an unparralelled talent.
could be about suicide but it seems to me to be more just about death in general. the deathbed part makes me think that. usually suicidal people don't have a deathbed.
It's cause it's a solo. The loneliness depicted by the lyrics is amplified because of the single instrument and the single person in frame. Gives the song more weight, makes it more haunting.
Chris , said this song he wrote was about a man waiting for death- after he saw the death of his many friends before him die- waiting in a room like a stone- I saw this song spoken about in an interview with Timmy C. & Audioslave speaking about Chris's lyrics. 💔
Ok I‘m 52 years old and I just listened to this song for the first time. And to be honest this was the best song I ever heard. Truly amazing and left me in tears. I hope he found peace
I just heard this song a couple weeks ago. It's my first real song to learn on the guitar. So motivating. This tells me he was welcoming his own death. So sad. He's so talented. I can't think about this song without contemplating my own eventual end...
52.. that's how old Chris was when he took his life, I hope that now his suffering has ended, he can be proud of his legacy, and know what he meant to all of us, I'm glad that more and more people are finding out his true talent, because he deserves the world for what he gave us.
RIP Chris. One year ago I had the chance to hear him live for the first and last time in the Ancient Amphitheatre in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. After each song, the 10,000 + audience would stand up and applaud for around 30 seconds. Literally, after every song. No one could believe how amazing his performance actually was, I had seen countless of live videos, but on that night he nailed absolutely every single note and he played for 2 hours straight leaving the audience absolutely stunned. It felt like he was in the peak of his abilities. It was surely one of the most powerful music experiences I ever had. I still can't believe he passed today, because I can still imagine how he sounded in that Amphitheatre like it was yesterday.
Daniel Ivanov first time I saw him at Lollapalooza 2 in 1992 with Soundgarden of course , that was amazing when his style / grunge first hit the scene, and introduce the soul too many great talents but I see Chris Cornell as the king
Thanks for talking about that experience. That is a perfect example of how amazing he sounded and, wow...that was after 25 - 30 years of singing too! There just aren't many singers who can sound that good for that long. I'm glad you and the audience gave him the standing ovations, because he obviously deserved that. ✌️✌️👊👊
I’m not sure of your age, but I am 41. I grew up listening to bands like Soundgarden (Audioslave was a generation removed haha, but I was still aware of them). I knew Cornell could sing. That was obvious. However, I also had a jaw-drop moment when I started listening to his acoustic work. Man, oh man. What a talent!
It's easy to do, friend. I hope all is well with you. Love watching all of these crazy good acoustic performances. His vocal mic technique is fascinating to watch on top of the heart poured into the performances. We are all fortunate to be in this timeline to experience this.
Pay attention to the distance he is from the mic. What a voice. The feeling, the talent, the execution. Just a man and his guitar, showing us how humanity can be incredible sometimes...
The distance from the microphone varies in the fact of is it a condenser or a dynamic mic. This is a Neumann condenser so he has to be farther away. Cornell is, in my opinion, the greatest vocal in rock when it comes to technique (favorite in sound is Layne Staley).
Easily one of, if not the best rock singers there has ever been. His voice is next level. Being a decent singer is an achievement in itself but this guy was gifted. R.I.P Bro.
My wife passed away 4 years ago. I have listened to this song every day since she took to the afterlife without me. I will wait for you my Wild Irish Rose until I see you again. I wait like a stone... for you. Alone.
Sorry for your loss, if I may extend a song to you that has helped me greatly with a similar loss. "In the Woods Somewhere" by the Irish singer Hozier. The human connection with love and death is so complex
That's not fair 😅 are you suggesting that everyone should be held to the same standard as Chris Cornell? I think that would discourage most musicians, even pros.
We all have our own interpretations of this song regardless of what Chris wrote about, Me personally this song I listen to almost every day with the passing of my daughter and I hope one day I get to see her again as I wait “like a stone”
I always loved that song but this particular performance of it could bring me to tears... Anyone who has loved and lost can feel the pain and sorrow in his voice... as a Musician and Vocalist, Chris Cornell is True Greatness
Always loved this song and today was the first day I read all the lyrics. But I never felt I needed to. You could just feel the song, the raw emotion behind it. To be honest, I don't think I've ever "felt" a song quite like this one before.
I first heard Audioslave when i was a kid playing "Flat out 2". I didn't know english then, but i still loved the songs. Chris is still my favorite artist
When I’m alone and in my feels and sad, Chris Cornell is the only one who gives me peace, contentment and hope. I will miss you forever my brother, gone too soon :(
People often speak of Cornell's vocal abilities and rightly so. However, this sometimes overshadows his immense, endless talent of individual expression -specifically lyrically. This song is truly an artful, an art form in & of itself!
LYRICS!!! On a cobweb afternoon In a room full of emptiness By a freeway I confess I was lost in the pages Of a book full of death Reading how we'll die alone And if we're good, we'll lay to rest Anywhere we want to go In your house I long to be Room by room patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone On my deathbed I will pray To the gods and the angels To the pagan or anyone Who will take me to heaven To a place I recall I was there so long ago The sky was bruised The wine was bled And there you led me on In your house I long to be Room by room patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone Alone And on I read Until the day was gone And I sat in regret Of all the things I've done For all that I've blessed And all that I've wronged In dreams until my death I will wander on In your house I long to be Room by room patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone Alone
I am late coming to his music, 66 and raising children but discovered him 2 years ago. He has a magnificent voice, such soulful eyes they stare through you. So sad to lose him.
Being mostly on my own, Chris was with me through some of my darkest moments on this Earth. Would have been so much harder without him. R.I.P. Chris, and thank you for being there for me.
In my opinion the best recorded version of this song Chris had a gift of true beauty with his voice that will never be matched It still doesn’t feel real that he’s not with us anymore
God, can't believe I never heard this version before. Crying. Audioslave will always be one of my favorite bands, Chris Cornell one of the most amazing vocalists. He was something else. It hurts.
I see this performance and I just wanna go back in time, hug him and say: "Everything is going to be good. I feel your pain and I'm sure there are a million people like me." I know that's selfish and stupid but I hope that Chris is somewhere out there hearing that. We miss you. The world is a bit worse without you.
Six years ago today you left this world...💔Your music and your voice live on with the rest of us. You are much missed Chris. Hope you find peace where you are now. "Be Yourself Is All That You Can Do.." Chris Cornell July 20, 1964 - May 18, 2017. ⭐ 18th May 2023

That's my question too. Did you? I got to see Chris with Soundgarden way back when we were all young. In Tampa,Fl. at the Sun Dome. They opened for Guns N' Roses and I only wish now that I'd of gotten to see him while he was touring his solo/acoustic stuff. I liked Soundgarden, and I liked some of Audioslave's music, but I absolutely love all of Chris Cornell's. What an absolutely amazingly, talented human being that will be forever missed by a very large group of other human's that could only dream of being as blessed as that man's family & friends to have been apart of his life, little lone breathe the same air as him. Beautiful inside and out! A truly, unbelievably, talented, unmatched in soooo many ways, from his pure and open heart to the deepest, darkest, and dearest depths of his soul, beautiful man. rips Chris, we still miss you, we will never forget you. Ever! One of his biggest fans since 1990. Guns N' Roses should of been opening for Soundgarden/Chris Cornell. Absolute best vocal/lyrasys to Grace this Earth. The voice of an Angel with a heart of a lion!
This song just hits my soul at times it makes me cry. His voice is absolutely phenomenal and I'm in awe with him. RIP 🙏 thank you for blessing us with your presence and voice.
Noticing the microphone they have him singing into. If I'm not mistaken, that's a U87, probably the best mic on the planet to capture his rich vocals. Glad someone thought to use one.
neumanns are the industry standard in the professional world. I used to work in a studio and that's all we used for our artists. captures so much detail. super expensive tho. i was always scared to prep it lol didn't want to drop it.
@@RandyH524 Same here. They offered some insurance, in case something expensive breaks by your fault. I remember that i gladly paid and felt a great relief.
No one sings like you anymore. You’re sorely missed by so many people, RIP & fly high, Chris Cornell. You may be gone but your music shall live on forever.
