I liked the podcast and had been listening a lot but I feel like they are a bit too upper class. They very rarely talk about the lower end of the market and it almost feels like boasting to me now. No so much Chris but more the other members
Road trips and car tests, doesn't need to be anything mad going on, just beautiful cars in beautiful scenery exploring the UK, Europe, and maybe further afield. With his mates. Jethro Bovingdon did something similar bit it didn't quite take off I don't think but then he loves to call everything creamy :P Would love to see CH and the lads from the podcast go do a trip around Scotland with 60% of the show driving and scenery and 40% of the show them in the pub afterwards chatting bubbles about cars.
Chris is literally the ONLY reason that I continued watching Top Gear. I really hope he gets picked up for a show of his own by a major outlet. He is really the only one left from a generation of journalists who were true car enthusiasts, whereas the current "journalists" pander to solely getting youtube likes.
I always knew that Chris Harris would end up fronting Top Gear and that he would be wasted on it and he was. I'm not saying he didn't do a good job he did, but he is so much better as a straight motoring journalist and car enthusiast. I miss his Chris Harris on cars RU-vid channel.
I'm not sure Will I miss him on Top Gear more, or miss his great youtube car reviews. I'd say Top Gear, we got to see things about Chris, well you don't see in a carefully constructed youtube car review video.
Totally agree, I always felt he was acting (badly) during a lot of the TG segments. His RU-vid stuff is totally natural, and his best content by far for me.
Totally agree. Always preferred Chris' non-Top Gear work and hopefully we'll see a lot more of it. With TG you could imagine there was somebody there saying 'and again but more animated Chris' - but its not needed. He's a brilliant presenter without all that ***t.
Give this man his own car show please ! Instead of the stupid show we ended up with , us petrolheads just want car related things, we love monkeyharris , simples ❤
Then the best place for him is away from the BBC - the YT car community provides every type of car content you could ever want from classics to new cars, petrol to EVs, serious journalists to mucking about………wouldn’t watch a car show on the BBC now, even if Clarkson and co presented it.
Love this guy. He could easily carry Top Gear by himself. Any Top Gear RU-vid video that drops with Chris is always an immediate watch. He's one of those rare people with a genuine passion and knowledge for his subject which immediately makes him easy to watch and listen to. Combined with his intelligence and humour results in a win. I dare say his humour probably offends certain generations now but I almost spat my coffee out when he so nonchalantly called himself the "Strange brown kid" and talking about taking the piss out of Freddie's teeth. I imagine the car chat and banter you would have with this guy would be top draw. More Chris Harris please BBC.
Certainly a very skilled driver but IMO bit of a one trick pony drifting every car he reviews and has the broadcasting personality of a frying pan. Am sure he’s a nice guy but just not my cup of tea.
A dream of a guest. Eloquent, knowledgeable, huge experience and a willingness to share it all. Well done to the presenters for letting him run with the conversation.
@@simoncowley4966 Harry gets some basic facts wrong on an alarmingly regular basis, and his continual misuse of "sort of" makes my teeth itch. JayEmm On Cars is much better.
0:35 - Its too late. Look at the size of that man !!! All in just a couple of years he's gone from a fit driver to an obese TV presenter: Unless he has an underlying heart condition which I hope not.
He is the premier auto journalist in the world, but he’s a humble guy. The TG/GT guys are obviously bigger, but for pure auto journalism Chris is unmatched.
@gaycha6689… you stole my words 😂. CH predates the internet age. First and foremost he can write and convey all aspects of a cars’ dynamic attributes in the most eloquent manner. Harris, Sutcliffe, Bovingdon and Meaden.. fantastic writers and superb wheelmen
@@DB-sj8km Each and every one to his own I suppose. Never heard anything about him being a good reporter journalist or driver anywhere. That must be a very well kept secret. Any self respecting racing driver would never let himself get fat - just look at all the retired F1 and Rallye AND all the no-ones that drove competitively 20 or 30 years ago.... Well kept secret.
It really makes me glad to hear that Chris still keeps in touch with Matt LeBlanc. They did get along well on the show and were actually really fun to watch.
Chris Harris On Cars was a channel that started my journey following this man. Chris is very knowledgeable in automotive and eloquent in presenting his thoughts. I see no finer person.
I've had the honour of meeting Chris Harris and as nice as he is here he is in person. I even interrupted his discussion to speak with him and we spoke of my dad's E28 M535i given he owns an E28 M5. Compelling stuff and all around good guy. Bring back the old channel with Neil.
Chris was the glue that just about held Top Gear together when Clarkson and co left. Amazing journalist, brilliant reviewer and always seems humble. I believe he's James May's favourite car journalist which just about sums it up.
Chris is an essential ingredient. Great driver, great car knowledge, great presenter and can play the fall guy for the entertainment section. Keep it going even if injuries mean substitution is needed
I’ve just bought Chris’s book. He is highly entertaining, but also a highly intelligent car and bike enthusiast. If someone doesn’t give him his own program, or teams up with a good team for a RU-vid channel then I’ll die an unhappy man. He is a fabulous chap😊
One of my favorite videos on RU-vid is Chris reviewing his old 2CV. The passion and enthusiasm he had for a hunk of junk old French vehicle is wonderful
I got to work with him a little back in the day. He's exactly as he comes across here - fast-talking, fast-thinking, rather earnest, very likeable, extremely knowledgeable. No ego on him, not in any problematic way anyway, lots of energy. I was interested that he describes himself as grumpy. I don't think that's quite right, rather that he's actually rather earnest/serious by natural disposition, but it doesn't take much to get him laughing. It's just that he's not going to smile when there's nothing to smile about. I get that.
It's called integrity. He's a very integer person. And one thing popular media lacks, is integrity. I am pretty sure I would appreciate working for or with him.
Always enjoyed watching Chris in the early days on You Tube. Still do enjoy watching him. His enthusiasm and knowledge shines through. Total respect for him.
Chris Harris is the absolute real deal when it comes to cars. No one ever asked Hammond , Clarkson or may to help develop a car because their just tv presenters but Harris helped develop the latest singer Porsche
Clarkson, Hammond and May were all legitimate motoring journalists, that’s why Top gear was a success, they evolved into caricatures of themselves I’ll admit but the foundation was there. Where Top gear failed was replacing them with “just tv presenters” like Chris Evans, Matt, Paddy and Freddy. Harris was the only one who had any credibility in that environment.
@@edh7492 top gear failed as it was just trying to repeat what came before and Harris is far too good as a motoring journalist so I don’t think it worked well for him, I bought top gear magazine once but I used to read EVO which in my opinion was a far better read Evans is a true car enthusiast and owner of some very unique and special cars but it just didn’t translate onto the screen . Clarkson for some is just a very entertaining person to watch , which is probably why his farm program is so popular.
@@Me-ri2ketrue, but I'd argue TG ran out of ideas a few series before Clarkson punched an assistant. Harris managed to keep it going for a few years more
Absolute Legend Chris, I could listen to you for hours! I also find you to be one of the most relatable I would love to see a new high budget TV show with you as a main presenter, And also can't help thinking that you could do some great content with Hammond ! (I also love all the nerdy details of cars and love bmws and alpinas from the 80s and 90s)
Sad that Top Gear has ended. I’ve always followed Chris Harris since reading his columns in EVO magazine. The banter on Top Gear was amazing. It was genuine and huge fun.
I bloody love Chris Harris. His passion and depth or knowledge on cars is outstanding. legit racing credentials and incredibly eloquent and funny. Will watch and listen to anything he does.
Chris is a far better wheelsman than many give him credit for. A true car fanatic and an all round good guy. Happy that they’ve finally put Top Gear out to pasture; it was well past it’s sell by date.
Chris is great - I’ve been a fan of his work since he was at autocar, having also read his stuff at what car. I always thought he was at autocar for much longer than he was but thinking back, remember missing him. Loved him, paddy and Andrew on top gear - they made it their own with their own chemistry rather than making a copy of the go’s. Gutted flint off had his accident but think stopping filming without him being able for whatever reason and allowing him to heal is so the right thing to do.
We had a chance meeting with Chris Harris at Goodwood FOS this year. He was so nice, genuine, and exactly like he was on TV. I’m a big fan, more so of his work on the Internet than Top Gear. You just know he knows a decent amount about cars and can imagine him getting stuck in to jobs in cars…if he had the time. Legend!
I love Chris Harris, he’s a great bloke and an amazing driver. His passion and knowledge of cars is also amazing. I do hope we see him back in a car show again in the future.
Absolutely the best lad at car shows.. whether he’s on RU-vid on his own or with mates on top gear.. his passion for cars comes across as soon as he starts to speak and in any walk of life, whatever the topic, that’s infectious. Hopefully he’s back on tv soon..
I am a huge fan of Mr. Harris and due to his knowledge and Collecting Cars podcast I recently binged all the Top Gear series with him, Freddy and Paddy, it was in my opinion better than the later stuff with Clarkson, Hammond and May. It was nice for TG to go back to having some nerdy car reviews in there for us true enthusiasts.
I still remember mk1 beardy Harris in a beany hat drifting a Beemer on driver's republic. I learned to drive reading and watching Chris's content. He's one of my all-time heroes. I love this man so much!
The interviewers actually did a lovely job, didn't try and steer him towards the accident very classy ! Well done to all three on the interview it was excellent, bet Harris is still smiling
Not that they did Chris got it out of the way fairly on in the interview but there was is no point asking Chris over and over again about the accident. He was not going to divulge any details regarding it. That's and it's very much a private matter if they'd have just invited him on to talk about Flintoff's accident then it would have just been downright disrespectful.
I truly hope we get to see Mr Harris with his own car show. Hes an incredibly humble yet talented man at what he does, and what a helmsman. Id love to have a fraction of his talent behind the wheel.
My favourite "car guy" to listen to, absolutely love his total addiction to every little detail of cars. Anyone that hasn't listened to his podcast, "Collecting addicts", go find it, you are in for a treat.
I've always known Chris Harris is a good bloke, listened to, read him and watched him for years. A down to earth guy, and true car enthusiast and journalist. He should have his own BBC motoring show. "Chris Harris in Gear" (you can have that one BBC, no charge!) I would watch every episode along with millions of others. Fantastic car control with lots of experience and knowledge. Go on Beeb develop a show just for CH, I dare you!!
Flintoff's crash took place on December 13, 2022 at Dunsfold Park aerodrome in Surrey, which has been the Top Gear test track since 2002. He was driving an open-topped, three-wheel Morgan Super 3 at 130 mph when it flipped and slid along the track during filming
Thx for this as I was completely in the dark regarding the accident. Didn’t even know it had happened. Still confused why Chris is reluctant to discuss it tho?
Chris describing cars as a condition is darn true for a lot of us. We all knew that about him and it's a big part of the reason many of us were drawn back to TG after the Big 3 left. God I hope he gets picked up and gets to do what he loves for all of us again.
Chris Harris is such a humble and a man of real integrity, and that is a rare thing nowadays. When it comes to celebrities with them kind of qualities, we will never find that in the new breed of self indulgent ( celebrity in their own mind).
I do love chris harris. His love for what he does (cars) shines through. He was the saving grace of new top gear and all the best bits of the old crew combined.
He really comes across so well. I think the majority of us would watch a car show hosted by Chris, I'd maybe go as far as to say he is the modern day Jeremy. Very excited to see what he does next, he's an extremely well educated motorist who's opinions I have enjoyed a lot
I really like Chris Harris, such a genuine bloke. Really passionate about cars, he knows what he’s talking about and also good at throwing cars around. But even when taking cars out of the equation, in general he just seems a good relatable guy.
When I was in middle school, our library had car magazines. Car and Driver and Road & Track. With lawn mowing money I subscribed to every car mag I could find. Until a recent move, I had 20 years of Automobile, C and D, Motor Trend and R & T. Plus many years of others. I actually found the 1993 RX7 I bought in the late 90's in Auto Week classifieds. With constant auto news today, I miss the excitement of that time of the month when those magazines arrived. Reading them cover to cover right away. I also miss those journalists. Patrick Bedard, Brock Yates, and such. Wonderful memories of a great childhood and extended adolescence.
Great guy, whilst I was not a fan of the new series per se, I felt so much for Freddie and his family after what happened. It's good to see him on the road to recovery. Chris for me was the reason I watched, fascinating guy, wish him all the best. As I do the rest of the crew
It all depends on what genre of motoring show the public wants. The Clarkson, May, Hammond & Wilman era Top Gear became more of an entertainment show, a ratings chaser that people who had no interest in cars could enjoy alongside those of us who are interested in all things automotive, and wildly successful it was too. On the other hand, a magazine style format (as per the original Top Gear from the 70s) wouldn’t be commissioned by the BBC today as it would be deemed too narrow band in appeal, not forgetting the sheer number of channel options, streaming services and non-linear viewing habits of the available audience today. For what it’s worth, Chris Harris is a motoring journalism titan and it is a shame that the public in general only really knows him for the knockabout banter of TG. If the BBC is brave enough…it isn’t…it should commission a proper consumer-focused, journalism-based magazine with Chris fronting and Harry Metcalfe, Rory Reid, Henry Catchpole, Jethro Bovingdon as contributors. Yes, we can still have tyre smoking supercars hooning around test tracks, but let’s have some editorial about the wider industry and real world motoring issues as well. I dunno, canning the odd property, culinary or lifestyle show might create schedule space….🤔 It won’t happen, more’s the pity.
Chris has the perfect foils for any such show in his Collecting Addicts podcasts. They talk about the most inane topics yet it feels like a bunch of mates at a pub, chatting over a beer, making one another laugh and hanging shit on one or other of them. Would lose something on free to air because the swearing is an essential element of the banter.
Oi Fair play you are right they should give him opportunity Especially if sexual deviant news readers get paid 2million of license payers money Just to lie to us I’d much rather they spent it on watchable programmes with relatable people as you suggested 🐜✌️💯
Top gear ended years ago. They tried even in the USA... But the good was already done. Chris should have his own show, if he wants to, the only journalist Ive seen describing the way he feels the car is a really acurate way!
Chris Harris IS legend ..again THE BBC wasted his talents and stuck him with those other 2 gits .. i hope he finds something akin to his real talents soon !!!
Chris Harris is the best kind of person. He’s competitive but humble, he’s intelligent but acts dumb, he has a tone of not caring about anything or anyone but he actually cares about so many things and people, he’s accomplished so much but doesn’t forget when he was accomplishing so little, he acts so serious but he’s actually low-key funny… As much as I agree with others in the comments that he needs his own show, I think what he’s doing with his business will be enough, especially considering the content he makes for it, because “TV shows” are just dying. RU-vid will always give us a better version of whatever he is to do.
I said yrs ago that Chis Harris, Jason Plato and Jensen Button would have been the perfect team to replace CH&M. Also i might be in the minority but I preferred Harris, Le Blanc and Reid over Harris freddie and the not funny comedian
what car magazine was amazing, first thing i bought when i came back to the UK as a kid, it had the JD Power survey for the year, threw out every other magazine apart from that one. could get lost for hours in car magazines, especially cos there was no video or sound, you could imagine everything in your head. Chris Harris is one of the best car journalists in the world, him and jason comisa from hagerty would great the internet if they made a show together.
Chris Harris, Tiff Needell and Quentin Wilson would have been a great line up for top gear. They could have changed the show format and let those three make the show their own. I reckon that would have been more successful than trying to get others to continue on similar format to Clarkson & co
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 Harry is just far too dull a personality to work on TV. His brand of quiet car-nerdery works well on his own on RU-vid (despite his frequent factual and grammatical errors and misuse of "sort of"), but on telly, he'd be outshone too much, and I don't think his ego would cope with that. He refuses to even do collabs on RU-vid. Tiff would work better because he's loud and flamboyant.
I think it’s cool that Chris still keeps in touch with Matt LeBlanc, Matt seems like a genuinely good guy and Chris and Matt genuinely seemed to get along and had a genuine love for cars
