i like how Connor says don't donate if you can't afford it

Well put. You may not be able to donate, but you could help your community in nice ways like volunteering or picking up trash as you are on a healthy walk. If you are able to, being nice to folks to brighten their day goes a long way as well. Much compassion to folks, whatever life may bring. ❤❤❤

Proprietary stuff is usually extremely generic, and cheaply manufactured. The only way a seat post clamp can fail is by overtightening, which isn't the components fault

@Sch2155 Месяц назад
Chris's bike has deep dish rims. That bike is a racing bike which puts you in a very uncomfortable position in place of being aerodynamic. I would recommend a gravel or touring bike instead with a proper individualized set up. That way the fit and components are set the way the rider likes it. And yes, I am a bike mechanic.
@vapyd3999
@vapyd3999 Месяц назад
That's a temporary bike, if you're talking about the white one, as his normal bike is a Cervelo Caledonia and definitely doesn't have deep dish. The Cervelo has very similar geometry to my bike (but more compliant) which is in the middle between aggressive and relaxed, and many, many things depend on the fit and the person, I'm more than happy to ride a century on mine and I'm most definitely no athlete (or a bike mechanic). Also, as another commentor has mentioned, the seatpost clamp has a flat piece, but the actual inner is round and should be easy to replace anywhere...
@Sch2155
@Sch2155 Месяц назад
@@vapyd3999 kind of like a Specialized Roubaix vs. a Tarmac, gotcha. Seat post saddle clamps are usually universal in compatibility with most saddles, totally, except for the proprietary ones on super high end bikes or really low end ones, which Cervelos definitely are not 🙂

They're probably over torqued the part. They should have bought a torque wrench for those parts. I think those parts are designed to break when it does over torqued to protect the carbon frame.

More of a rant, not a meltdown. He wasn't truly angry here, he just ranting and making content, though he's not wrong, i fully agree with him. I always try to buy products that have universal parts, it's one of my biggest things i think about whenever i buy anything that may require maintenance in future. But it's not an "absolute meltdown". Funny thing is he didn't learn from it, later on he continues to over tighten the brackets like crazy and risk stripping the replacements too, everyone telling him he's not allowed to touch it himself anymore. I had a uncle like him who thought you tighten everything to the maximum you can and ruin things all the time by over tighten, some people don't understand that there is a point of tightened enough and any further actually does more damage and doesn't help anything.
@VocalFox

Chris's stem is also set in a race/ more aggressive position. You can flip the stem over in and it will put him in a slightly more upright position. Rotating the handle bars a little might help as well. Small adjustments make big differences in rider comfort.

Considering how much beating its gotten over just a year (my rough estimate is roughly 700+ KM, rain, heat, wind, sea, mud) over the course of 3 cyclathons, its amazing. Its been through hell and is only asking for basic maintenance.

That's actually not very far at all. Myself and many amateurs ride that much every two weeks or so. Chris's bike is basically brand new. They almost certainly misused the component in order for it to break after such a short amount of time.
@ojcubz
@ojcubz Месяц назад
@@apollo2858 Sorry I'm not aware of the average run time of road bikes, I'd thought they were pretty much running their bikes through the ringer. You guys live in japan. Which is filled with amazing NJS frame builders in every prefecture who will build you a custom fitted frame, to your required specifications, and with any groupset and parts you desire. But, you choose to buy mass produced branded carbon bikes, whose frames are all manufactured in Shenzen across the border from Hong Kong. Which then fail because it cannot handle the real journeys you put them through. Buy local. Buy Japanese next time.
@veryboringname.
@veryboringname. Месяц назад
The frame didn't fail at all; the screw on the seat post clamp was overtightened as they didn't have a torque wrench. Having one of those is VERY important when working with carbon frames.

I own a commuter, gravel/road, and fat/ mountain bike. My commuter bike is great, but it’s a pig. I can put 30km on it daily, but it’s not a comfortable 30km. You want a road bike for the distances they cover at the speeds they need to cover. If Chris just got a specialized road bike this wouldn’t be a problem.
