Mr Isaak does a brilliant job with this song. The first time I heard "Wicked Game" on the radio I thought, "How is there a Roy Orbison song I've never heard before?"
The first time I heard this it was playing on my clock radio as the wake up alarm. It was such a different, soulful and mournful sound - brought me to tears.
It really goes to show how music dosent need to be complecated, thats only a 3 chord song all the way, with an incredible melody and an outstanding harmony! 👍👍👍
Thanks for reacting to this one. Wicked Game by Chris Isaac is indeed a Classic! It should be on just about every adult's "listen to at least once" list. The band delivers a performance that should be Universally "Relate-able". If anyone who's loved and lost, can listen to this song, and not have flashbacks, and feel "moved", then they need Professional Help! .... Even if their name is Spock (IMHO). You probably get this a lot, but ... don't you have a twin brother named ... Juan? (Only because I like your channel and take on life and music, Big Smile!)
This song doesn’t have the same feel as when James Wilsey played the lead on the original. Unfortunately Jimmy passed a few years ago, he had a wicked sense of humor, and could really play slow.
Chris Isaak's first hit was a song called "Lie to Me". Which was released in 1987. But yes, this song "Wicked Games" is the song that truly launched his career.
Heard the original/studio version so many times that every other version (even this one) feels slightly off. The official video certainly didnt hurt either.
It has always bothered me that Chris never really got the attention he deserved for his amazing vocals. In conversations about great singers, he is never mentioned. When I do mention him, people look at me like I'm crazy...
Because he never went main stream digital crap. And he was in a genre all by himself. If he had the attention on the radio he deserved he would have had some serious successes in concerts!
For sure Baby did a bad, bad thing! Saw him at a small venue in San Rafael, CA before he got bog. Great show. The video of this song is sizzling hot! 💥
Chris Isaak remains a class act. Roy Orbison is nodding with approval, wherever he is now. What a great song. Chris' "San Francisco Days" is another exquisite gem.
@@jeffgoodberry6364 apparently Chris was a big fan of Roy, they met and were good friends; I remember seeing an interview where Chris told a hilarious story about Roy selling a car and waiting til afternoon so the prospective new owner wouldn't notice the dents in the bodywork with the shadows at just the right angle to hide them XD The influence Roy had on Chris' vocals is very apparent
This is one of Chris Isaak's best songs -- maybe THE best one. Beside the lyrics, which are very good, the MUSIC itself is just beautiful, and his voice is beautiful.
In the early 90s, every woman alive was into this song - and if you wanted to get with one of them, you were into this song, too. Just saying a lot of good humans owe their existence to this music.
Trying to learn "Baby did a bad bad thing " on guitar . I have no rhythm but hay ! As long as nobody's listening I sound great 😂😂😂😂 Like my power of invisibility .
Chris Isaak wrote and recorded this song first, back in the late '80's. Great video with him and Helena Christensen on the beach, check it out!! 🔥🔥🎸🎙️🎵🎶🎶..........
“Strange what desire will make foolish people do” - one of my favorite song lyrics ever. (Though that’s the studio version; in this performance he changes it to “lovers” - still very true. 😊)
This song cuts very deep if you’ve ever been in one of those relationships where you just get strung along and just dropped. I’m sure many others can attest to that as well
Chris has got the smoothest voice, the best hair and the most amazing stage outfits! I love his eponymous album with Heart Full of Soul and Blue Hotel. I caught his show way back in the late 80’s at a small nightclub in San Francisco. And then a friend ran across him at a local record shop and asked for his autograph which he happily did for her along with a quick caricature of his own face. He’s a cool guy.
I’ve seen Chris in concert many times and he never disappoints. At one venue, my parents and I got to hang out with Chris and the band after the concert. They were all very nice people. I recommend you review any of his songs. Great job! Love to you and your family from Duck country!
“It sounds incredible” because these are REAL artists, REAL musicians, REAL talent!!! Not like the crap that is passed off as “music” these days. And the fact that it’s being done live is proof positive! Thanks 😊
Chris wrote the song. It's been used in a few movies and tv shows. notably, the Friends episode when Rachel and Ross finally get together. He had a sitcom called "The Chris Issak Show" on Showtime back in the 90s that was pretty funny. It was described as The American Rock Star Next Door and most of the band was in it too as themselves. Episodes might be on RU-vid. Listen to his other songs. Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing is a great one. so is his cover of Neil Diamond's Solitary Man
The first time I heard Wicked Game was in David Lynch's Wild at Heart. It was a really creepy scene with a car crash but the song just jumped off the screen. When I got home I had to find out who sang that song!
I loved that movie, amd always think of David Lynch with this one too! Named one of my ducks Lula even hahaa Chris was in his film Fire Walk with Me (Twin Peaks prequel) 😉
I always think in Lynch when I listen to this song too, one of my favorite directors and one of my favorites singers/actors , and they match really good, every time they worked together was amazing.
That was them rehearsing in a studio. Chris and the band had a series on Showtime for awhile. It was pretty entertaining. The sound on this one was as good as it gets.
Slap yourself darling! Chris originated this beautiful song! Thank you for doing A FANTASTIC REACTION! I always love it when you look at us with that "Mmmhmmmm All Right Look"!! You da bomb you da heat!!! Have a great one! You always make my day!!🙃😃✌👍
I saw him perform this in concert back in 1996. He’s amazing. He’s also really nice and stayed after the concert until everyone who wanted an autograph got one. He signed my shirt I bought and talked to me and shook my hand. A true gentleman and humble guy.
Hey Jamel! I *looove* this song. It's so sensual. And I love the way Chris Isaak sings it (he's so handsome 😍). Beyond this song, he's an amazing (and shamefully underrated) artist with a great group of musicians behind him. The director, David Lynch, included some of Isaak's music (like this song), and Chris Isaak himself, in some of his films. "Don't Make Me Dream About You" is from this same time frame. "Baby Did A Bad, Bad Thing", "Blue Hotel", and his debut "Dancin", highly recommended. ☮ out!
James Hetfield from Metallica was so inspired by Chris Isaak that he started experimenting with his voice, which led to their new sound in the Black album.
@@Tarmac76 Hetfield felt like he didn't have a good voice so he stuck to yelling and growling. After hearing Chris Isaak he wanted to experiment with singing and a few years later he felt confident enough to sing. The Black album was considered controversial among fans because it went away from his iconic sound.
I wouldn't go that far. Hetfield told Bob Rock he wanted his vocals to sound like Chris Isaak on the Black Album. It didn't necessarily inspire the sound of the entire record.
I absolutely LOVE Lyle. The first time I heard him, Naomi Judd was doing a guest VJ on VH1 and showed his “She’s No Lady…” video. My head swung around with whiplash! WHO IS THIS?!? Been an immense fan ever since. Hard to pick a fav (too many) but I’ll go with “You’re Not From Texas”.
I second that 100%. Playing it for a millennial will bring out comments like “Oh, that’s auto tuned” or some other crap. I guess if they’re fed BS then they learn to acquire a taste for BS. They simply can’t accept that music made before the date on their birth certificate is worthy of giving a listen to.
@@Bill_Jones.You'd be surprised most of us millennials know good music. It's the Gen Z's that have no idea. I'm a millennial and Ive been listening to this song for 20+ years💯
@@DosEquis1 Well, I can reply to your comment in a similar way. Generalization will always cause issues. While I'm somewhere in the middle between Gen Y and Z, being born in '98, I'm by common definition Gen Z and I don't really listen to (nowaday's) mainstream stuff and Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands for example. I also really like Eminem, as a very different example, both also serve a different purpose for me. And I know my sister, who is "proper" Gen Z ('04), also likes some "older" songs (early 2000s and before). Some 80s stuff or 80s characteristics also seems to come back. I do get Bill Jones' last phrase though; I know (or knew) people around my age that had or would have this attitude of "wow, that's old, nah". At least I've heard that about movies, but I think music as well. I guess you just need to be a bit more open and not discard it due to being older than yourself - there's probably something nice you can find in every (recent) decade. :)
Somebody's Crying" is another hit of his. In 2001, he had a weekly television show that ran for three years, with his band playing the role of a band trying to become famous. It was hilarious and the music was stellar on every episode.. and I've have been a fan ever since.
Two interesting things about this song... 1. The lyrics are actually "No, I don't want to fall in love with you". I found this out after learned how to play it for a girlfriend in college (I removed the "don't" when I sang it to her). 2. James Hetfield from Metallica actually used this song as inspiration to take vocal lessons to get more soul in his singing before The Black Album. This can be observed in the song "The Unforgiven".
Jamel if you ever get the chance to see him live do it. His shows are always good, band is always very tight. He is a gifted artist. Heart Shaped wheel is an album worth buying, IMHO.
I have 4 of his CDs autographed by him. I've gone to see him several times here in WA. He is a really, really fun entertainer. One thing I really appreciate about Chris Isaak is that he stays after to meet and greet and sign autographs. He appreciates his fans, and his fans appreciate him. Really nice person, IMO.
I was 6 when this song came out,it's one of the 10 songs I don't think I've ever skipped, food for the soul. One of the others,I can thank my parents, Beds are burning by midnight oil. Such a phenomenal song.
