Just finished this particular ep. It always makes me cry. Elliot LOVES Kathy, but there's a big old space in his heart for Olivia too, and if he hadn't loved Kathy so much, he certainly would have opened up to Liv. For sure. The hug I like best is the one when Christine Lahti's DA character is killed by the guy who murdered Debra Messing's little sister. Liv has just watched Lahti's character die, she's covered in blood, and El comes in and just GRABS her and doesn't let go for a while. Powerful moment between them, again.
ITA when you see Olivia in the scene, she looks so authentically surprised, gratified, validated, and relieved. truly an inspired performance for both.
He's in love with Olivia too. You can be in love with two people at the same time. He loves the whole family unit with Kathy, especially with a newborn and another very young child and I don't think that he wanted to break that up. ☹️ Who knows if it would have made any difference at all but if Liv made the first step and put her heart totally on the line, maybe he would have left Kathy. 🤷 I believe that they are Soulmates. Surely to God, #Bensler have got to be #Endgame though?! ❤️💏😍👩❤️👨🥰👨👩👧👦 PLEASE!!! 🙏 xxx
The best moments between those two, in my opinion, is when there are no words. SO much is said when there are no words and just looks. With that hug too...sooooo much could be read into it. He was thanking her for saving Kathy's life, saving HIS life so many times, thanking her for the friendship, always being there no matter what, etc...The chemistry between Chris and Mariska...nobody can top that kind of working relationship to pull off THAT much with just a hug 💚
Yes, I had to come back and watch this scene after their reunion tonight. Such a powerful moment and something so difficult to put into words. Their closeness remains unmached. The chemistry that's like being in love with your best friend, having their back, going to the ends of the earth to move mountains for them. That is why she was so gutted when he left suddenly. That is why there's potential for so much now. Theirs was a partnership that always went beyond the job and yet they never went there. Emotionally yes, glances yes, especially early on in the series, but to have that level of respect for someone so you put your own feelings and needs aside in order to not mess up what you have as friends... it doesn't get deeper than that.
Was a beautiful moment and he hugs Liv the same way at the hospital when Kathy dies. He had a blue shirt on both times and Liv closes her eyes both times as well
I think he did it because he loves her so much and the show would never let them show their romantic side. In the new shows he looks at her constantly. When they look at each other the real love shows ❤❤
To me, making it seem like a sporatic thing (i.e., just randomly turning and grabbing her) lessens the moment. It just seemed like, "Oh, I forgot I have to hug you," and then it happens. I'd rather he had walked out of the hospital room, saw her, she asks how the baby is, he says great. Then their eyes meet, and he starts to say, "Liv, I...." while he's working on a thank you or something, he instead decides a hug is a more appropriate response. It's unplanned, but intentional. It's better than just grabbing someone like you would pick up an item on your way out the door. Sorry, but this hug just could have been better. It doesn't lessen the importance of his wife and child at that particular moment in the series or in his relationships with either of the three of them to make the hug seem more deliberate.
