Literally you could just interview Chris Perkins on any topic, for any length of time and I would immediately watch. And I'm certain many others would as well.

I was just thinking this the other day. He has such a wonderful voice. It's calming in an ASMR way but also terrifying because of his rep to torture players. :)

"I have 65 character concepts." Those are rookie numbers. You need to pump up those numbers. (I do the same thing. Quite a lot. Always a great part of the entire enterprise.)

As of post I have around 120 characters on d&d beyond. Half of those are fan builds, the other half are original or semi-original. Having myself a good time.

I think the biggest draw is Critical Role itself. People, myself included, have dreamed up what it would be like having a character in the same world as the Mighty Nien. With this you can basically run a party in parallel to the show.

That's cool, so long as the other players - and most importantly, the DM! - are on board with it :)

Not a new idea by any means (the general term for it on the hobby is a "lifepath" system), but I think the first time it appears in an official D&D product.

“This setting doesn’t impose itself so strongly that you can’t make it your own.” Oh Forgotten Realms mention?

I never got that from the Forgotten Realms. I actually loved FR due to the established world that it created.

@@bmm9714 Same. As a first time DM, I was close to finishing LMoP and was trying to decide what to do then. Inspired by some of the hooks made known to me by LMoP (Harmun Kost of Thay, the blights at Thundertree and Agatha's history with the elves etc), I was able to come up with some interesting stories connected to the local Neverwinter region (the Woods, the Mere and Helm's Hold especially). It was all very inspiring as I came up with various settlements within the Woods and the Mere as well as the gnoll and undead threads they had to deal with. Meanwhile, I remember seeing Wildemount campaigns listed on Roll20 and I decided not to join them. It's mostly because I had a specific drow I wanted to play and his backstory assumes the drow are a very isolated society and most of what the surface know about them is that they send out dangerous slave raiding parties. Xorhas completely negates that. It's easier to introduce Xorhas to Realms than it is to remove it from WIldemount.
@mduckernz
@mduckernz 4 года назад
@@Rathkryn That's definitely true, but nonetheless, a lot of stuff is already pre decided - the cosmology/multiverse configuration, identities and history of the divine powers, etc - all very impactful with deep consequences.
@bmm9714
@bmm9714 4 года назад
@@mduckernz I understand your point, but you can change those things to fit your campaign or adventure. None of that stuff is set in stone. I've played campaigns where new gods were created by players and so the DM added them into the world and everything made sense. I don't know anything about Wildemount at this point yet, but FR is totally changeable in just about every way to fit into what the DM needs.

How about Ravnica? Wasn't that also "an original" campaign setting for 5e?

Technically it belongs to Magic the Gathering, separate teams. While they essentially rented it to the DND team, its not new, nor original.

This book is so over hyped and the bias towards it is unreal. The only reason this book is being talked about so much is because of critical role. It’s too bad that they don’t devote this much energy to expanding on their existing content.

Interesting how they did the same thing with every other book? But because this is new you don't like it? Eberron they had pretty much the same videos, same pre release. This is ovviously going to have more advertising as its a new venture so they want it to go well? Youre saying overhyped but you haven't even seen the book yet as it isn't out yet? Maybe you're just salty for some reason. Does it negatively impact your life? Are you angry for no reason? Perhaps you're not having a good time in life, and if so I hope you find some joy and are able to appreciate life more
@TravisWilliams_

Alex Trollip this book is getting far more pre release attention and the only reason so is because of CR. They didn’t devote this much advertising to their other products, which is unfortunate. This is being over hyped in a big way because from how it’s sounding there is little to truly set it apart other than it’s a CR product.

@@TravisWilliams_ Just looking at Xanathar's it has upwards of double the videos on it at the moment, and without looking, I'm sure the other books have as many if not more videos as Wildemount.
@TravisWilliams_
@TravisWilliams_ 4 года назад
B# Music well for whatever reason it sure seems to be more at the forefront of the videos popping up. I didn’t have this many come up for any other D&D product. That aside my criticism still stands though. This book wouldn’t have nearly the preorders or interest it has if Mercer or CR wasn’t involved. If it’s amazing that’s awesome but I need to see what makes it stand out on its own other than CR.
