You don’t have to be enough God chose to love you, you don’t need to earn His love. Just like a baby is learning to walk they fall multiple times before learning and when they fall a loving parent helps them get back up, in the same way God is helping you get back up.

Emily, I understand what you mean. This world, with all of its distractions, often makes us feel far away from God. But, the Good News is that He will never leave us. He is always with us. I often realize that when I feel like you do, it's because I have not been spending time in God's goodness, in His Word, and in fellowship with other believers. Stand firm. Seek His Word and people who will encourage you. Here is something I read recently that reminds me to stand firm in God's promises and not be discouraged by the nature of this world. The nature of the enemy's warfare in your life is to cause you to become discouraged and to cast away your confidence. Not that you would necessarily discard your salvation, but you could give up your hope of God's deliverance. First he is singing to God, then the last verse is God's response to it all....the writer capitalized 'Me' because God is referring to Himself.

I think Chris is saying "how could You love me? how could You want me?" because we fail Jesus all the time. We are so quick to desert Him, forget Him ("act like an orphan"), betray Him, push Him away. At the end, Chris is singing from God's perspective saying He won't leave us, He won't give up on us, He still wants us.
