If you’re in Shibuya be sure to swing by! Odds are myself, Sharla, Natsuki or dare I say American Pete will be having a drink somewhere in the room! 🍹LOST: maps.app.goo.gl/dqwnq3ov7kjdMh91A?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
Aaaa! I am here in Tokyo right now and want to come see! My 16yr old daughter is presumably denied entry (I appreciate drinking laws are outside your jurisdiction) which is a shame as she knows your videos even better than I do. Regardless, we will definitely swing by even if only to empty your gacha machines!
This is brilliant! Hubby and I have been saving g up to come to Japan for about 5 years and we're finally coming in October to celebrate turning 40 and 20 years of marriage. We've been following you on RU-vid for quite a while, and we've been taking lots of notes. We'll definitely pop in to come and say hello.
lol. Pete's so funny. I cannot imagine Chris cleaning glasses the way Pete's described it! Hope i'll get to swing by the bar one day..am sure i'll be loving the music . Sounds like an exciting new venture Chris and Sharla!! Congratulations ...
I’m going to Tokyo next month with my husband and couple of friends, we’ll make sure to pop by your new bar! Fingers crossed I’m lucky enough to meet the one and only Mr Broad 🤞🏼
Congrats! I went by this last Saturday, Mr. Ian Rudd was there to welcome all thirsty patrons! BTW, I had difficulty getting in, your neighbors let me in. I knew it was somewhere close, the Flowers with Lost on them was a dead giveaway.
I hope you two as a couple I have a very strong relationship because going into business together can really stress our relationship. Best of luck to you and your partner.
My husband and I are going to japan very soon and we'll be going to be in the area of the bar. We'll have our 9 year old child with us, but we'll walk past and take pictures of it. I don't know if I can bring my child in a bar.
19:00 this is the perfect example of what's wrong with Japan. There's a chip shortage but the company still offers Welcome Suica which is temporary, can't be returned and gets thrown away by tourists. How about allowed it to be recycled/returned?
Tourism and other travel (e.g. business) is important to Japan, and new arrivals are more likely to have trouble navigating the alternatives to Suica. Better to have those who better understand and can fully utilize the other systems conserve their cards than give first time visitors a bad experience. I agree that recycling the cards would be a great idea!
Thing 1,089 that drives me crazy in Japan is they say "Oh, just use the app" when it comes to train cards. Yeah, well... the app only works for Japanese phones. And I'm almost sure this comes down to a check box when they create the app that says "only allow Japanese phones". They could push an update that allows it to work on any phone but they just can't be fucked to do it. Thankfully I still have a pasmo card and I'll be holding on to it for dear life.
You will be there? I haven’t left the country since 2017. I need a reason to travel. I am going to bring my copy of your memoir for you to sign. It would be quite a journey.
28-6 Udagawachō, Shibuya City, Tokyo Is the address of Don Quixote mega store which my understanding is next door to Lost, the bar itself is on the 2nd floor.
Eighties music? I wonder what the Japanese would think of Scritti Politti, The Jesus and Marychain, The Cocteau Twins, The Cure, Aztec Camera, Kajagoogoo… No Kagagoogoo is not a disease!
Congratulations on the new bar Chris and Sharla, I visited this week and it’s a sanctuary from the normal bars in Shibuya. I enjoyed the Natsuki themed cocktails and the beef crisps, the bar could even become my new favourite local being only 10 minutes from home
Address: Tokyo, Shibuya, Udagawacho 33-1, Grand Tokyo Shibuya Building 2F (behind the secret door😉) Open: Wednesday - Sunday 2pm - 10pm (closed Mon/Tues)
@robertchandler2063 it's the building right next to Mega Don Quijote, it's basically a 5 minute walk from the station, through the crossing and right next to an H&M
I used to work for Kraft Foods in Cheltenham then they made us redundant when they bought Cabury and moved theirr head office to Bournville. Bizarrely 20 years later worked at a company that was based in the closed Cadbury factory in Keysham and I have now been ousourced to India. Using my payoff to visit Japan next month😊
Congrats on the bar! Can't wait to visit next time we're in Japan. I think i still have my old Suica card from years ago, i think it even still has money on it 😂 I doubt it still works though.
Hey Chris! I was really lucky to come to the bar to meet you, Sharla, and Ian! It was a really nice location, it felt very cosy yet professional! I had some amazing chats with others attending and I will definitely be back in the future. I'm glad everything went so smoothly. Also dear everyone else, it's pretty well priced too - I had the "Life is balloons" and "Too much volcano", which were both amazing.
You better have a lot of space for people to buy a bottle and leave it on the wall. I bet sooo many ppl will want to do and then not return to Japan for 5 years lol
I’ve already visited you guys last week. It’s a lovely place and really tasty non-alcoholic cocktails!! I’ve also bought all the beautiful postcards 😍 10/10!!
No, no, no. Sir, stop upstaging everyone. You will be incorrigible: best-selling author, royal dinner, snd now THE BAR. I feel sorry for the Trash Taste boyz. But, I am happy for you and proud of you as using your influencer "power" to do good things. Hat's-off to you sir.
3:08 the people of Pittsburgh know your pain. Kraft merged with Heinz and immediately stopped supporting anything in Heinz original home city (Pittsburgh). They stopped supporting the local history museum they had supported for nearly 20 years, stopped supporting the local sports team they had supported for nearly 40 years, oh and they shutdown massive parts of the factory because they gave most of those responsibilities to the DelMonte division. Also now it says on everything CHICAGO IL. A slap to the face of the fans of Heinz…
That bar is going to be so packed! I can only imagine how crazy it's going to be on the holidays like New Years! Congrats and Good Luck with the new business venture!!
Regarding sketching: I saw a Japanese chap sitting sketching the beautiful temple in Nezu in Tokyo. He was through the torii but outside the actual temple, sketching the building.
This is an "IMPORTANT ADVICE" from a Japanese guy regarding sketching. Shrines and temples are private properties. Many of those allow people to enter freely for worship and pray, but taking photos and sketching are not allowed without permission. Even some Japanese don't know the etiquette, so If you're not sure about rules of shrines or temples you visit, please ask the staff. Thanks for visiting Japan.
Went to Lost last Sunday directly after I landed and checked-in at my hotel in Shibuya and had a blast! Had a couple of drinks after being >24h awake. It felt a bit trippy to be greeted by Ian and them having him study my Wacken shirt to check the bands who played this year \m/ :) Next day went to a random bar in Shibuya, had a drink and then woke up in my hotel with blood on my pillow a black eye and deep cut on my cheek. So yeah, between the two, I would choose Lost! Greetings from, currently, Kyoto
Expat living in the USA for 36 years and have never liked Hershey's chocolate, to me, it has a sickly "off" kind of flavor. and reminds me of the baking chocolate my mom used. It was fine for cakes and such but horrible for eating. Luckily there was always an Expat grocery store where I've lived and was always able to get my Cadbury fix when I felt the urge for a chocolate treat and that taste of home and my childhood, with Fruit and Nut being my fav and the Caramel a close second. And Kraft Cheese slices aren't even cheese, they had to relabel there atrocious product as "Cheese food" because of the low actual cheese content, the majority of it being made with fats and emulsifiers. There is really good cheese over here, and where I live now in upstate NY, there are cheeses that are as good and tasty as any back home none of them being peddled by Kraft. Love the show, always a joy to watch and or listen to the pair of you. Unfortunately, I don't travel well so I won't be able to drop in and have a bevvy at Chris and Sharla's place so I'll just say cheers and raise a glass for your new venture from the comfort of my armchair. Kanpai and good luck 😁👍👍👍👍👍
@@davidkymdell452 K.... Never heard of it but have managed to find it online at Kiwi Corner Dairy $7 for a 250gm bar, think I'll give it a go, Hope it's not like comparing Marmite and Vegemite.... I love Marmite and didn't like Vegemite at all....😁👍
Hersheys is just awful! I think it's due to this that it tastes the way it does 'The perception that American chocolate tastes "like sick" can be attributed to the presence of butyric acid in some American chocolate recipes. Butyric acid is a compound found in milk products and is also present in rancid butter and vomit, which is why it might evoke a "sick" taste association'
Chris' porn stache strikes again! Chris, you talked a lot about the bar, but why didn't you show any pictures/video? i can understand why you didn't want to go overboard, but it just seems very odd.
Day trips in Kansai: Kobe (See the English House for a random taste of Britain, hit the harbor at night, ride the Kobe Nunobiki Ropeway and see the garden), Himeji (hit the castle, stop by Engyoji Temple from The Last Samurai, visit the wacky Taiyou theme park off the beaten track), Nara (every temple ever, get harassed by deer). Also, just outside of Kyoto, check out Kifune-jinga and hike up Mount Kurama to nearby Kurama-dera or take cable car up from Kibune town.
OMG Chris and Sharla's life is getting more like Tokyo Vice by the day, opening bars one day and who knows, having shady characters hanging out in the far corner exploiting a tab that will never be paid...
17:58 the Tokyo Metro 24/48/72 hour ticket is pretty decent though - just not valid on JR trains disguised as subways such as Yamanote. But it's convenient and if you *do* move around a lot in the city for three days, it'll be worth its cost. Another idea against the shortage: if you go out of Suica-land, get an IC card elsewhere. ICOCA has been entirely unaffected by the "shortage" and is just as accepted countrywide as Suica.
Good luck with the new place! Hopefully I’ll be over next year! On speeding, I empathize with Pete. Used to be ok in my Prius. Then got an Audi RS3. Too tempting to floor it, which I did. Thankfully here in the states where I emigrated to from the uk, the police just want to see the engine and ask about it. I’ve improved.
Ever since craft took over the Cadburys went downhill and the chocolate got worse, used to love Cadburys now I can't remember the last time I had a block of their chocolate.
There is a chocolate shortage due to crop failures from environmental issues, so I'm not surprised many chocolate brands are upping their prices and promoting chocolate bars mixed with nuts and berries to try to keep sales up.
Congrats on the new bar, will definitely check it out, probably March 2025. Also, in the U.S. there is a points system on your license for speeding/other activity as well.
Chris, as I just said to Sharla on Instagram, I never cease to be impressed by how hard you two work. You have earned your success, and as such I wish you all the best.
I intermittently watch Chris' videos on a monthly basis. As a compliment, he does look slimmer from earlier videos, so he's doing something good! Congrats to him!
That's it, I'm bringing "Abroad in Japan" book for an autograph, AND CHRIS, if you get to read this, I have some productive ideas for your bar, if I can help, please do tell 😊 for free ofcourse 🎉
Got an idea for you, @ChrisBroad: Open up pop-up bars in key cities around the world. London, Los Angeles, etc, etc. This will create opportunities for you and the Broad band during special events. For example, AX in Los Angeles, for Joey & Connor. Or a New York New Year for the whole gang. Why pay for the trip when the trip itself is a piggy bank of money making opportunity and despair
Re cards, just got back from London, first time in 8 yrs, and used our leftover Oyster cards. Had 3.90 each, left this time with something like 1.20. Win! Have to go back again now tho…
I was wondering if Chris has ever ridden on the JR East 'Joyful Trains'. I would like to ride the BB Base around Chiba and get some cycling in, as well as the High Rail 1375 for stargazing opportunities. Interesting themed trains.
I have wanted to ask this FOREVER, and you've probably answered it before, but I'll never find it. It unfortunately has nothing to do with the bar that you just opened, that I would seriously love to go to. It will probably be buried in comments and unread (no worries, I totally get it! I'll just ask again, at another time). But here it is...Have either of you met The Peter Barakan? You're all from the same place, talking about the other place! But he's the GOAT!
Re music.....play at a level that you can still talk to your friends....background music as it were. It's a bar that has ambience....not a nightclub that serves drinks. Here in oz all places just have doff doff...even cafes.
