It's been cool experimenting with a new approach this summer. My friend Patxi Usobiaga showed me a bit about structured training at Sharma Climbing BCN. It was a lot of suffering but also a very cool to see the progression. The bottom line: if you want to get better out have to work hard at it and want it!

Sharma is the man! I wonder what weight he has got in that vest. I probably couldn't do the problem fresh with a helium vest on.

Chris is such a quiet fella, and then.......... Not as bad as the czech, but he's quite screamy. I tried screaming more at the crsg to see if it helped and it just wore me out quicker and everyone told me to shut up.

It's so inspiring to see Chris getting better and better tho older he gets. Really rare. Most geniuses have their 15 minutes of fame and as they get out of their 20's, there's not much to hear about them. Not so with Sharma. During his "silent' period he got better and better - from Realization, a 9a+ to Dura Dura, a 9b+. Gives me hope, a 38 year old guy, whose most precious goal is to, some day, climb an FB7b+ or even an FB8a, but that's most likely just wishful thinking.

6 years late but I think it needs to be said that climbers can progress for much later in life than other sports.

I have no idea how these professionals get their tremendous and for hobby climber incredible finger strength and how to train that? A Video lession about training finger strenght would illuminate that mystery, Go on! Good lessions!

you should do some heavy squats and deadlifts. Also i think that for a guy like you, who moves his entire body it would be benefitial to do isolation exercises. Another thing is thay you should separate cardio from strength training. circuit training is fine, but you still need some rest between the supersets. Just trying to be helpful here
@Varilpsa
@Varilpsa 8 лет назад
Excuse me for saying this, but bull fucking shit. Most people climbing around me get fatigued on climbs mostly because they don't use their legs to the full potential, and then try to make up for by training more and more grip and back. Although i agree that legs don't need to be very strong for climbing, but they you still need them the most to control your body and to get from some cheesy situations. The light as possible thing is also a lot of climber crap because everyone who knows their basics knows, that when you get heavier, excerises get easier. Also, core strength is needed mostly in huge overhangs
@Varilpsa
@Varilpsa 8 лет назад
Also. leg training gets rid of "elvis leg" Training your calves gives you more control on the climbs

Climbing with a weight vest on?! no. just no. bad idea folks
@pauldavies9360
@pauldavies9360 7 лет назад
basically it can disrupt your skill set. youre learning new skills to climb with all that extra weight . it's much better to just strengthen the muscles using weight in the gym then practice your skill ie: Climbing. it's best to seperate conditioning and skill training.
@pucek365
@pucek365 7 лет назад
Not really, this is activation of a nervous system. Your climbing skills won't suffer from that, it's a sure thing.
@pauldavies9360
@pauldavies9360 7 лет назад
I know what you mean and I've been trying to learn about that but I'm not seeing any convincing science. It's kinda like I do Pull ups instead of a cable Pull down machine because it's closer to my sport (climbing) but either is effective it seems.
@pucek365
@pucek365 7 лет назад
No, it's not that. You're talking about building muscles or building strength, but climbing with the vest is actually recruiting your muscle fibers to be active. You don't need any science, just put on a weighted vest before your training and do few boulders, then start actual climbing. I can guarantee you, that you'll feel a whole lot lighter on that wall.
