Wow! She really made this her own without losing the parts of Chris Stapleton's version that made me love it in the first place. Backing instrumentation was very tastefully done, gentlemen... nice. Video production is excellent. When a song carries the kind of emotional weight that this one does, THIS is how you do a great cover version.
She took this song to a new level by mixing in lyrics from Etta James' "I'd Rather Go Blind". I wasn't ready for that. I had to play back that part. Beautiful rendition!
So I know it's the riff from Etta's song and the words from Tennessee Whiskey were written by someone other than Chris Stapleton (for those who didn't know). So none of it is his. I'm saying she did a great job blending the two.
it is I'd rather go blind note for note. George Jones wrote the lyrics and sung it with Etta James so he didn't need to pay for the music since they collaborated together.
@@814gina 100% FALSE. The song was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove and first recorded by David Alan Coe for his album of the same name. I'd Rather Go Blind was written by Ellington Jordan and Etta James. Two different songs.
Yes it happened to me exactly the same, I thought it was I'd rather was blind. So both songs have same melody and chords. And this is a very good cover.
A beautiful woman with a beautiful voice singing a beautiful song. What can be better. Of course Chris Stapleton’s version brought this old song back to life. I’m so glad to find this on RU-vid.
Boy ,Oh Boy, this is real surgically precision in singing and a Band of master craft musicians, very well produced, and orchestrated. Listening gives the feeling of being in their live show, a few beers, a mesmerised spectators and a cool relaxed atmosphere. She is as sweet in her voice with a magnificent loyal harmonized band. This is a Presidential and Royalty performance. Thanks. I have really enjoyed this.
I recognized Etta James I'd rather go blind right away when this song came out from Chis stapeton I told everyone that ! being Mexican American I listen to a lot of oldies and caught it right away ! But I also know most of the Lyrics are from David Allen Coe or George Jones ? original Tennessee Whiskey which are great country singers ,so if you think about it Chris Stapelton and his team are Genius for putting this song together every time it plays at a club or Bar all colors come out and dance just about every race can relate to this song , we really need more of these songs especially in these time with our country is so divided !! And we are so fortunate to hear this band play the combination of all artists they killed it !!
I’ll tell you what they didn’t disappoint Etta James. I like you have an ear for music and I thought the same thing when I first hear this wonderful song. Something like when I heard blurr lines that beat was Marvin Gaye all the way. Let me thank these musicians for keeping there music alive.
Christina, I listen to different performers on RU-vid a lot. I listen to find who can do the very best on a given song that I am familiar with. I took a chance on you for one of them, and wowee. After hearing just four or five notes from your platinum voice, no one else can come close, no one. You are the best blues singer ever. Please do more blues. Oh, excellent band too.
Yeah I'd been recommended this video for a long time but kept bypassing it. I'm embarassed to say I've never listened to anyone do this song. So I clicked on it one day, and wow, it's so cool. The singer is wonderful, and the musos so cool. I listen to it everyday now.
She’s as complete as you can find. What’s her true desire? If, it’s the blues, she needs to find support and go for it. Beautiful lady and talented package
I just don't have the words....my two favorite songs together....that voice, the lyrics, the music.... My soul can't stop crying. Makes me want to sit in a dark room with a candle and a bottle of whiskey, with this song on repeat.
@@christinakateri I cant thank you enough, many many times with all the heartache that I have suffered in the past year with my wife of 26 years walking out, I have listened to this song but never have I cried so deeply as I have when I heard your version. Your voice gives me strength to get through this.
Oh my goodness. I’m so sorry for the pain you’ve endured. It’s humbling that this music has, even in a small way, been a consolation to you. Don’t lose hope!
Wow, just came across this. I have been lead singer for 50 yrs and have sang this song every which way you can. You Christina and your band are Fantastic. Perfect Voice control. I'm grateful for you sharing and me finding this.
Wow, at first I wasn't going to listen n I thought it's just another cover until I heard it and it just blew me away..they're the complete package! 👏👏👏💯💫
This is one of the best covers I have ever heard . The band was awesome , the singer even better . You have to be the next biggest star without a doubt . After clicking on this video , I was amazed at what I found . Pure perfection !!! Heavenly voice of an angel . Wish I could hire you , but since I cannot I will follow you going forward in your amazing music career .I subscribed immediately once I saw this video. A million thanks for what you do. Please don't quit , the world needs you and the band to keep making this music. A fan for life.
Oh 🙂 I certainly agree with "KING KISER". She should be in big demand. I'll give her a 10. I hope to see her in a live performance before I bite the dust. One good thing the covid pandemic has brought about for me, is, "I'm Ioving so many new music artist's. Music soothes my soul 🙏 Thanks to YOU TUBE 🥰⛳🇺🇸🍷
Etta James spirit has made a mark on Beth Hart 👏 now this beautiful group ❤️ Keep em coming we truly appreciate You guys ...! Love ❤️ From the beautiful Free state of Florida USA 🇺🇸 God's blessings 🙌 🙏 ✨️ ❤️
It’s no big deal. This version is crap. All they did was put it to an R&B beat and robbed the greatest version from the greatest vocalist of all times. That would be GEORGE JONES. DACoe gave it a first try and flopped. This song was floating around Nashville for years. You don’t get it, these people are as far from Tennessee Whisky as this song is far from tolerable. Put the country count to it with steel pedal guitars whining in the background , add No Show Jones’ rich, masculine voice and you’ve got one of the top ten country music songs of all times.
Wow this is a beautiful rendition of the song by Etta James! You did it proud. I do wish you had included the line where she says l would rather go blind than see you walk out that door boy! You are awesome! Some real soul here and l am a 73 year African- American. You nailed it.
@@Pureheart_gentlesoul I'm Brazilian. It's so difficult to align with others who appreciate good music. Half the time they can't even name the instruments. I really enjoy percussion instruments among many other instruments. I also enjoy the Alto Sax ,the tuba,Sicilian accordion, and the violin. I really enjoy Algerian and Balkin music. And of course Samba . How about you?
