Kevin Smith (at a time) was respected with film enthusiasts because of his honest, funny and harsh takes on films. If you can’t criticize films because you’re in the game then it seems that any review Chris does could be seen as pandering.

Chris critisized the producers on that movie, yet defendet all the "creatives" (whom have failed by not writing a story or characters for the movie). So how exactly is that helping him as a director if he only blames the ones who hire directors?

I'm fine with Chris no longer wanting to give bad reviews because he wants to be a Hollywood guy but his pretentious BS of saying things like I don't give bad reviews because I love filmmakers and movies too much is just coming off like a pu$$y. I'm not sure why he even bothered talking about Madame Web. If Chris was just honest, he just said listen guys, I can't be a critic or give grades anymore because I want to be a writer/director and my agent or team thinks it's a better move to step away from being a film critic. I think most people would get it but his approach has been poorly handled and acting like giving a movie a bad review is somehow not being a film lover is bulls@@t.

Streaming services are ruining good movies. Or ruining the movie business. It's ruining something. There's 3 good movies per 30 on any given service. Even worse ratio for shows. I've canceled all streaming services. Now I enjoy my own physical media collection exclusively.

I've followed Chris Stuckmann for over 10 years. I unfollowed him recently, his credibility is gone, he's sold out, he blames the industry now, everything else is good, every writer, every script, every actor, actress, all because he's writing a movie now. Viewers have relied on these opinion's for so long, it's unfortunate. If the script is good, its' good, if it's bad it's bad, if the cinematography is crap, then it is. Tell it like it is. Theatres tickets are no longer cheap, nobody wants to support garbage movies, listening to him talk about Madame Web was a joke. I guess it's true what they say "fame, success and opportunity does change you". Anyways keep doing what you're doing, we appreciate it.

Hello John! It's always great to see you make these live videos. I had the misfortune of missing it. I usually never comment, but something moved me to comment today. I was scrolling through You tube, and saw you had a new video up. I knew that many would want to know your take on Chris Stuckman. You handled each of those questions with tact and grace. I respect you so much. I have been a loyal viewer of yours for years now. Years ago, I came across a video of you and Chris and I was so impressed, the collaboration chemistry between the two of you was off the charts for me. I can say this from the bottom of my heart, since the days of Siskel & Ebert, I have not enjoyed watching a movie review as much as I enjoyed watching you two collaborate together. You made a comment in this video about gossip being fun. Thank you always for not feeding fuel to the fire. You made valid points on why he made that video. I agreed with everything that you said. I watched his video twice, and he clearly was not endorsing that movie, in fact it made him so angry, he felt moved to make a video about it. He no longer wants to bash movies, but he felt he had to say something. Did I agree with everything he said, NO!! But I respect his right to say it. Its his platform. Any modern film critics ever take a college film course? Or even seen a black and white movie?

Hmm… Chris is more a filmmaker first than a critic. But his way of criticizing films was from that pov. I remember back in the old podcast days. Dan Trachtenberg was a movie critic for his show. And he starts to work on movies, he made the decision to not review movies and let his cohost do the criticism. As for Chris on the studio interference, think he felt that the type of interference was from people who not in the arts. I just think Sony is not really good with handling Comic book materials. They just want to keep Spider man as the cash cow. Even though it will hurt the IP.

I agreed on some points that Chris had, but the problem is that he put all the blame on the studio (around the 7 mins mark). He says that, upon watching the movie, there wasn't a single part of him that thought that SJ Clarkson was a terrible filmmaker and it was clearly the studio wanting to retain the rights to their characters, without caring about the product. I think that's where people, me included, had a problem with his video because while I'm sure Sony interfered a lot (like many studios do anyway), many criticisms on the movie were about the camerawork and the bad acting from everyone, not just the writing. And who's fault was that then? The director.
