Ariel never said too much, never interrupted and let Chris pour his heart out and tell his story in anyway he wanted. Most journalists don’t know how to be this understanding or patient.
You need to see how max kellerman and Stephen A interrupt someone mid sentence while they’re talking about passionate topics. Worst level of interviewing those two
@Michael Hill best way of letting go is to express yourself.. everyone has there journey and struggles that eventually happen, but he has lessons to his lesson he learned. to reflect on the past and help someone in the future, i enjoyed the interview although it didn't help me. look at some of the comments, the people reflecting on their prior pain in comparison.. life has its ups and downs man, and to have a friend, or even someone who cares to listen. is appreciable, expressing emotions is natural. you are like a younger version of me, i would never cry no matter what pain, emotional or physical. i was to "tough" for that, and myself i died last year. i had my own journey which im not going to explain, but you have to let go to let the weight off your shoulders sometimes.
@Helping Heroes Hatzidakis I snapped my tibia and fibula playing football, but the issue he's dealing with is the small chance that his bones die and his leg has to be amputated, as well as the knowledge that his career is probably over. Most people would be upset with that in the back of their mind.
Hearing him telling about his physical and mental struggles is so heartbreaking. Fans in China used to call him Captain America because he has the look, the physique and the skill. Big love from China to Chris and his family. Wish him speedy and full recovery. Respect.
@@craigmcmillan8815 what do you mean the more professional this sport becomes? How much more professional can you ufc become it doesn’t really make much sense your statement my friend
What these fighters put themselves through is absolutely crazy. And they do it for our entertainment. Yes, they get paid, but I don't think they get paid enough! I really hope Weidman is okay, and maybe we can learn something from this - maybe we can take preemptive x-rays for microfractures for fighters who are over a certain age, or something like that, in the hope of preventing these really bad accidents.
I remember how traumatized Anderson was after the leg break. Talking about going to his car to cry so his family wouldn't hear. One of the most painful injuries. Go back and watch that interview and how he talked about the incredible pain.
@@DubuWaPolar he meant as in Uriah doesn’t throw a leg kick so it doesn’t get checked by someone and the same thing will happen to him just like it happened to Weidman
@@azizali7665 ohhhh thank you! he will prob be fighting Cannonier or Till next. Especially the latter one needs some 'calf massasing' to be better dealth with 😁. Will pray for Uriahs leg
@@Harmbe13percent it's up to him, if chris weidman wants to come back and fight again he will be back. the other two fighters who suffered the same leg fracture in the UFC both came back for plenty more fights. ando for 7 fights, and corey hill for 11 fights. just because you'd be done after a leg break, doesn't mean everyone is as negative - some people are made of tougher stuff than others.
I think Weidman is the most unluckiest and luckiest fighter ever. All American handsome tall dude took down one of the greats in freak incidents. His skills really do say how good he is. But when he gets in the octagon the worst luck... Everyone in training speaks highly of him. Sad to say but I think one more win then he should retire.
I smashed my humerus bone into 6 pieces, right up near the socket a few years back and was told I may only be able to move my shoulder joint about 5percent, and I vividly remember breaking down and saying almost exactly the same words as Chris. I wish there was some way to help him, as I know the feeling of struggle to stay positive, but feeling the claws of despair. 😢
I love it when Ariel just lets them talk. Thats why he's a GOAT of MMA journalism. He understands he just wanted to get stuff off his mind. And he respectfully took himself out the picture.
The silver lining is that you're a warrior, you inspire the world with your courage and bring a great person.. This is a gift, I'm in Australia and have endured deep trauma over the last 2 years, I'm both brought to tears And deeply touched. Whether you fight or not, your giving a deep service to the world via who you are being.. Thankyou Chris
I felt so heartbroken for him as soon as it happened, I'm glad he's brave enough to talk about it so people know what fighters sometimes have to go through just to entertain us. 24 surgeries. I hope the UFC are looking after him.
@Jav Mar well that's a part of that Contract. Not the plane. Lol. But they get full coverage 100% all expenses paid Insurance for the day of the fight. So no matter what happens they cover the bill. All fighters get that.
Once he snapped his leg, I knelt down, speechless, for like 10 mins, and it felt like i was in that position for hours. I can't imagine the pain he went through.
@@Milan9Zlatangoogle when anderson silvas leg snapped I stopped watching MMA for a month. considered not watching any more I felt so bad. now I'm conditioned to the violence I suppose. much less reaction for weidman.
@@Milan9Zlatangoogle The pain just sounds unbearable from what he was saying here. I had to put it to the back of my mind. It was so savage. And potentially, suddenly facing the end of his career after giving so much? It's awful.
Yeah but he’s a little paranoid. I had a very similar leg break and all the things hes talking about happened to me too but 2 years later now my leg is completely healed. He’ll be fine he just needs to stop thinking the worst scenario and relax and play some video games and eat some more dairy
@@uzairwaheed330 I know, but he said the leg break is the worst one yet, which I had too so I can give some insight, I know why he’s paranoid because I felt it too but he’ll recover.
I was cringing this whole interview, having had tendon surgery and understanding how hard it is to cope with nerve damage. Chris has had so many injuries its unreal. I really hope he has some quality of life pain wise post his fighting career. Chris is a true warrior that can never be questioned, out of this world toughness.
Beyond real. To see someone so tough, be so human and open with something so devastating. Having 3 kids myself, got me choked up at the end there. Truly a one of a kind person. I'm rooting for ya Chris. Definitely have a new fan.
This got me choked me up on multiple occasions. Ariel & Weidman clearly care about each other and you could see how emotional Helwani was getting when asking about Chris’ children. Weidman is a legend w/nothing to prove & a tremendous ambassador for MMA.
This was one of if not the best interview on this show ever. Weidman being so open about his experience is inspiring and I wish nothing but the best for him and his family.
This is why we love Ariel!! The end was real. And the fact he isn't scared to ask questions or be vulnerable like that on the internet!! Much Respect Ariel. And get well chris. Can't wait to see you back in the cage!!
@@MREDZ what does commending Chris’s mental toughness have anything to do with soldiers at war or anyone else who exhibits mental toughness? It’s honestly awful how your heart could allow your mind to focus on that type of irrelevancy rather than admiring Chris for demonstrating such an incredible amount of mental fortitude. We’re all here (including you) watching a interview about Chris Weidman, not soldiers at war. Shame on you
Well, I broke mine under different circumstances but it's didn't have skin penetration from the bone though it was truly agonizing. However I've also had Kidney stones and that was the most pain I've ever experienced. That compound fracture though, 😣
tore 3 ligaments in my knee, meniscus and broke my leg in 2 places playing football. Not sure it was as bad as his injury, but It was a long and grueling rehab. I feel sick to my stomach listening to him relive this. Much props to him. Cheers to a speedy recovery, Chris. Much love, man.
@@uzairwaheed330 because you say and do things you would never normally say or do to try and help get through the pain. Also being high on those pain killers gets you really loopy.
I'm a new fan of his. Really inspirational guy. He's a true warrior, a family man and an overall nice guy. I would love to just shake his hand and tell him this myself. Guys like this make me want to work harder
Chris Weidman is the strongest person I have ever seen. His mentality is such a beautiful thing to witness. We are all so incredibly blessed to have this man share his warriors journey with us. Godspeed in your recovery Chris. You are truly inspiring to all of us! We love you and pray for your health to come back 100%
Man this one hit deep. The mental and physical toughness Chris has is insane. Sending prayers and wishes for a full recovery. Definitely gonna sub to his RU-vid too
🐐ARIEL HELWANI THE UNDISPUTED G.O.A.T.!!!🐐 We’re talking «Fight Game» and this man brings so much compassion and empathy to the table. He is more important to the game than the UFC will ever realize!! A true Mensch!!!
I never knew that the bone could die i saw silva get through it and be alright so i assumed chris would be alright and still think he will be ok god's got him.🙏🏽
Chris The All-American Weidman with the American Flag flying in the front yard. I love that you can see it in his front door window every once in a while in this interview. Chris has a ton of recovery ahead of him and I wish him luck!
Chris is a living legend and already a future hall of famer.. Just imagining the pain he had to go through💔 God bless him and hope for a speedy recovery!🙏
Ariel is the f'ing best when it comes to interviews! Imagine Marc or Brett conducting this interview with their uptight, by the numbers, monotone styles. It wouldn't be the same. The question at 33:58 and the emotional connection through parenting was deep.
Brave beyond words. Don’t think many of us can even imagine what Chris is going through. Just madness this has happened to him after what happened the Spider Anderson Silva.
Definitely hoping for the best for this man. The talk of worse case scenarios makes me really feel for him. Chris should always be part of MMA and the UFC community, dude is loved and will be loved forever
It's a very mentally taxing ordeal for anyone. I've got a titanium rod in mine but that adds no comfort whatsoever. Lol. It took me a year before I was even comfortable running again so that says a lot about what it took for Anderson to get back in there.
its true. Pretty amazing how well Chris has shed a light on this injury. Even as horrific as it looked, its still difficult to really comprehend the magnitude of the pain and recovery involved. Tyrone Spong never threw a leg kick again after he broke his leg, and that should say enough
I love this dude and all he stands for.. I remember the night he fought Anderson the 2nd time and seeing this happen to Chris @261 was surreal. Thoughts and prayers for Chris and his family. We thank you for the sacrifice(s) you've made to the sport. TRUE WARRORIOR.TRUE LEGEND.
This man is telling the truth, I thought I had a high pain tolerance until I had hardware screwed into my broken bones. Hurt more than breaking the bone, hurt more than anything I've ever experienced. I thought I would be able to handle the pain on my own and chose to not to take the painkillers prescribed as I came off the numbing agents. Bad idea. I wound up passing out, waking up in a pool of sweat the next day. Hardware aint no joke.
I broke my forearm in high-school playing football. I got 2 titanium rods drilled into each bone, and theres is still nerve damage after 9 years, and it will never be the same. I could only imagine how much worse it would be if it happened to my leg. I hope he recovers strong!
19:47-20:10 extremely inspiring. I’ve personally just got emotional and tear eyed after he said that because of how much he just inspired me with that quote. After hearing about all the physical and especially mental pain attacking him as he’s down and out, I’ve been going through a lot as well. Not broken bones, but I’m trying to put my life together and my own family doubts me every single day, with rudeness and disrespect. And I know I can do it, but I get down on myself mentally. But I will do this for myself. I just hope I can close to as strong as Chris while trying to get through this chapter in my life. Him and I will both prevail from these desperate times. Thank you Chris.
Weidman is a real man. A fighter, father, husband, and so much more. Not afraid to show emotion or talk about his hardships. Gotta respect that. Also just the way that he treats his son when he came up and sat by him. That's a real father who loves his family. Great dude
Uncommon character right there. Massive reverence & respect to Chris. I have no doubt he will complete the long journey ahead & fight in the octagon again.
This guy probably has one of the biggest up and down career in the sport. He went from undefeated and beating the middleweight GOAT twice to getting destroyed ever since his lost to Rockhold.
on the cool, uriah hall been cursed.. ever since chael chose him to be the next anderson on the ultimate fighter and fighting weidman before the UFC hes part of the cursed leg kick triangle
Never seen to much of Chris but always here fighters giving him praise..I now see why...What a good guy..I can now honestly say im a huge Weidman fan.. Best wishes Chris hope you have a smooth and successful recovery and speedy return to fighting...
Watching from hospital on day 25 now after 13 hour surgery, you have helped me here, I feel for you, you will be back Chris, keep the spirits high one day at a time, good days and bad days will come, thank you for this interview Ariel.
How TF can you dislike this video? F**** low lives man... how can you hate on this guy. Speedy recovery champ! I'm hoping to see you as soon as possible in the octagon again, of course, if you deem yourself both mentally and physically healthy.
I think we were all holding back tears at the end :( , hurts to see a fighter in so much pain emotionally and physically, but I’m glad it’s Chris b/c he really does have so many people praying for him , get well soon Mr. Weidman🙏🏾
Chris Weidman is a living legend, my heart breaks when I see him cry it's horrible what has happened to him. The UFC should keep this man happy, he soon will be a hall of famer.
I am 10 mins into the interview and just gotta feel for the guy and what he is going through. I cant even imagine the pain he actually is in right now and i just hope he gets better and nevermind about fighting but to at least be pain free
I’ve experienced this exact same injury. Happened in a Muay Thai fight. The pain he’s talking about is real. My shin still hurts. It’s a rough injury. I kept training but... wheeling myself up hills in my wheelchair. That’s how I mentally coped with it.
Chris is a true Champion! What a warrior! 25 surgeries. This Man has no quit in him. Your blessed with a wonderful family and this too shall pass. Other doors will open up to you as you continue to heal, there will definitely be a silver lining. We are sending our love
