Thats because she never pushed herself. She was never like geddy lee from rush for example who in the early days just sang so damn high and they played 200 shows a year doing that. The voice cant handle it long. She always sang easy stuff right from the start and that let her preserve her voice throughout her life. Its like darius rucker from hootie and the blowfish or rob thomas. They both still sound amazing bc they never pushed their limits.
@@trenken Well, I don’t really know about that. I think she pushes it occasionally (like a live version of “Creep” I saw on RU-vid), but I think that, in general, you’re probably correct.
@@dianebebbington5726 Especially with the ABSOLUTE trash being put out now !! She really is amazing and the so-called current flakey wannabes ie: Beyonce, Nicky ... queen of trash Minaj etc !! Chrissie Hynde is SOOOO many levels and a class above them !! How utterly refreshing to hear and see real singing with a real musical instrument !! Luv you Chrissie !! 💖
@@jacquesdehue2290 Whom are you talking about?? Have you misread my comment as I NEVER said Chrissie Hynde was " underrated " !! In fact, I said the absolute complete opposite and was singing her praise !! 🤨🤔
I have loved Chrissie and the Pretenders since the 80's, I saw them and wore dark mascara to be like her. Whenever I hear Back on the Chain Gang, I think of my father, who I lost suddenly in 1995. That song really hits home. Chrissie was incredible back then and still is now. She's always been my idol and I got to see her about 5 years ago front row. My feet hurt from standing but I didn't care. It was so cool to see your idol 35 years later right in front you. Incredible.
I love her voice. I used to listen to her on Radio Free Europe from communist Czechoslovakia. That is, when it was not jammed by the stupid commies. And when I escaped, I continued listen to her in America, where I live now. You made my life more happy/joyful, Chrissie Hynde. Thank you!
Do you also dig REM? Murmur, which had "Radio Free Europe"on it?! jozef, on a radio interview, she said "I'm not much of a singer, and I'm not that good at guitar, but as long as I can keep a band together, I'm as happy as S...T! One of a kind rocker!
"Stand By You". Goosebumps. What a voice, what emotion she brings to the song. That is one hell of a tight band she has with her. Martin on drums and his unique playing style and high mounted cymbals. Awesome.
Absolutely love her voice, I truly think she’s female singer in rock and roll. Regarding this live set, she is SPOT ON! Sounds perfect; not a missed note or alternate melody to steer around the high notes, just killer. That first Pretenders record totally changed my taste in music, too. I bought the cassette before heading off to college in August 1980. My parents had gotten me a killer “boom box” for high school graduation and it seems like that cassette was permanently in that player for the better part of my freshman year. Just awesome.
Chrissy Hynde has one of the best voices ever in entertainment . Her guitar playing is great , and plus the way she addresses the audience . She is a born entertainer . Loved the medly . Thanks for the video .
My two most favorite female singers in the whole world will always be Chrissie Hynde and Karen Carpenter. When the Lord passed put singing talent to these two beautiful women, they both got a whole bunch more than anyone else. RIP James and Pete!! We still love you very, very much!!! The Pretenders will always be Chrissie, Martin, James and Pete!!!!
I guess that's what years of clean living and being a vegan can do for you. Chrissie Hynde simply sounds amazing. A great song writer, an amazing rhythm guitarist, a voice that sounds like a 20 year old, and a sense of stage presence that is - Just - Plain - COOL. I love her moves and her vocal inflections. it's also like she's the only one who is on the inside of a joke that we all should get! But we can't because she is too cool! I've seen lots of concerts from a lot of great classic bands. The Pretenders and Chrissy Hynde rock us just right - not too hard, not to mushy - but punchy and tight. Awesome band and the pedal steel is a perfect fit. Impressive.
Ashamed that I had neglected to remember just how great Chrissie and the Pretenders were. Such a unique, original singer and catchy, clever and coool songs
It's so cool she and Martin Chambers have been able to keep this thing going for so long. Even after the loss of PF and JHS. They've kept the music viable and still just do it so well. Hat's off!!
Probably the most talented female artist of the 80s no she is the most talented and underappreciated. The lyrics the presentation the music is perfection.
Without a doubt the greatest female singer-songwriter in rock and roll! This video just popped back up on my YT feed and I had to watched it (again for about the 10th time). She is absolutely amazing, sounds as fantastic as the first time I heard their first album in 1980. The band is tight as hell, too. That first album was my introduction to “new wave” music and it changed (ultimately broadened) my taste in music from that point forward. I know it sounds corny, but there is something about her voice and that sound that just makes me happy. Just awesome.
Chrissie fuses her JAZZY voice with rock, pop, punk, rhythm + blues, folk and even twangy country tunes. No one else sounds like her, ever. She's been a real trail blazer for alternative music, is one of the greatest ever American vocalists.
I hope they play in my area sometime. Grew up listening to the Pretenders. Always thought they had such a fresh sound with Hynde packing a punch that could lay you out.
Good lawd she's still so amazing, it's pretty crazy how her voice is so beautiful and powerful and seems to not have aged a minute. She's got the Fountain of Youth!
I tell you what, she has one special voice, and singing style. Mesmerising, subtle and unmistakable 😘😘😘 Love you Chrissie Hynde. First time I heard you in 1980, still listening to you in 2021 and beyond.
+Ordnael Meister Crissy was always one of my absolute favorites. Easily the most underrated rock singer of a generation or two! Total class! I agree for the most part for the youngsters but you need to leave Lady Gaga off that list. I saw her live and I can promise you she sings herself live, no playback. She gets a bad rap because of some of her earlier dress and stuff but she is actually a very talented entertainer. Watch her with Tony Bennet and I think you will agree.
The tense energy of this band was lost on me as a punk-ass kid in the late 70's, even tho I liked some Pretender's output. Hynde may just be a top ten all time vocalist without being a standout in any vocal quality. She puts it all together and it just fuckin' works like magic. Lyrics, attitude, tone, delivery, arrangement, she's the whole package. No bullshit pop-princess, she had real chops, something to say, and knew how to say it. Wish there was another one like her to pick up the torch.
Chrissie and The Pretenders are legends in my time, Rock and Punk mixture is the song of the time and oh, what a beautiful time it was! Late 70's and early 80's was such the great time for Music! She has the voice of an Angel in the flow of original styles of her own style and voice range of the Superstar she truly is, with the talented band "The Pretenders" were bigger than they ever had the credit for! Love this sound, then and now! 🎸🎵👏🎹🎶💕🍃🌹🍃✌⛅👍
The absolute greatest female voice in rock and roll. And she still has 100% of her pipes! I bought their first album (as a cassette) the summer on 1980, a couple months before heading off to college. For HS graduation, my parents had given me a killer boom box (the big rectangular kind, with woofers and tweeters). This cassette was one of the first I bought specifically for that boom box. I playing it hundreds of times and it, along with my somewhat parallel introduction to The Clash, totally changed my taste in music. Greatness. Still love every song.
What a superb song! And they look like they’re having a great time performing it. God I love this era of The Pretenders - like a shooting star, short lived, but brilliant!
She's is rock and roll. What a voice and bad ass attitude for miles. Martin Chambers is a rock and a beast back there. Rest of the band phenomenal as well. Hope to see them live soon.
she's AMAZING!!!! LOVE HER! been going to see them since 1980 met her martin chambers. love love love if you can't appreciate the pretenders then you have no idea what real music is
what a voice, beautiful and strong...CH is one of the most unique female vocalists ever and beside Joan Jett forever...after deaths of James and Pete the pretenders were never the same, but they did plenty pre- 1983...one of the greatest bands in the world actually
The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame needs to induct The Pretenders. Many of the recent inductees are bollocks but the Hall would do right by placing them inside respect to all they've done for over 3 decades. If Heart & Green Day are in then The Prentenders should have been like last year.
She is marvelous, the whole band clicks together like a Swiss watch, they all are superb, the drummer is a rock solid foundation and delivers all his soul.
"Eric Heywood on..... whatever it's called." Hahahahaha. Chrissie is such a great musician, so distinctive. Truly an incredible artist with her own voice. Love, love, love.
The Pretenders were and was today a great rock icon. I'll never let to appreciate their talent and these is fantastic to who really looking for listen the best music.
She is just really really something.. this band sounds great and Martin... Now I want a gold tele thanks Chrissie for writing such great music ya know...
