People from third country where they are not educated and are kept away from education or gaining knowledge. Therefore they go away from Quran and it's teaching. Probably, father's excessive hatred towards Islam forced the son to study and learn about Islam which led him to the truth. Ironically, this would have further increased father's hatred.

We should take him by his word when he says he didn't disown his son because he reverted to Islam but because he had a warped interpretation of Islam and thinks it's permissible or at least easier to cheat on your wife as a Muslim. But Allah knows best.

The Old Testament and the Torah are not exactly the same I’m sure you realize. The books of the O.T. believed to be written by Moses. Moses was an Israelite as was Jesus Christ. Amongst other things the OT prophesies Jesus Christ. In fact Jesus Christ said to follow the laws of Moses. The Apostles were Jewish. The OT is the first covenant and the NT is the second covenant. So, it’s not that we trust the OT because of the Pharisee, we trust it because of Jesus Christ and His Apostles. It’s literally part of our believe system. Peace!

In Islam a slave has connotations that differ from modern definitions of slavery. A captive in war is called a slave instead of prisoner of war. Slaves have the same food and have to be treated like a prisoner of war. Not like a slave in the colonial stolen ones that worked plantations etc.
