I loved your reviews!! I definitely have a recommendation!! One of my absolute FAVORITE books is called The Mystery of the Radcliffe Riddle by Taryn Souders. While it's a middle grade novel, i believe anyone can read it! It's an incredible book that is very emotionally intuitive (at least to me) and definitely is a super fun read. The author is a Christian and her writing style is so wonderful. It is playful, fun and recognizes that kids can feel just as much as teens and adults can. It's definitely a book you can really get into! It'll be lighthearted for younger readers, yet mature enough for older ones. 100/10 recommend!

Love this! So glad to hear from others who feel the same way. I really believe books needs to have content warnings on the back like movies because there have been countless times where I've picked up fiction books that I thought would be good and wholesome and it turns out that's not the case at all. It's gotten to the point where I try to vet the books really well before jumping in since there is a lot out there now filled with bad content. If you're a christian or looking to stay away from sex in books or profanity, stay away from Colleen Hoover, Jenny Colgan, John Green, Marcus Zusak (the book thief) Louise Penny, Ruth Ware and Gillian Flynn, Janet Evanovich, to name a few. One rule of thumb I go by now, is if it's wildly popular, it most likely is filled with garbage. Some authors I've read that I've not had issues with are Debbie Macomber, Fannie Flag, Joanne Fluke, Paige Shelton, Amanda Flower. I've really enjoyed their books. I've been reading alot of cozy mystery books and have found these to be clean for the most part. Cozy mysteries are great because they have cozy setting, a mystery involved, usually with a woman as the sleuth and doesn't have bad language or it's pretty mild. Agatha Christie is one of my favorite mystery authors. She's great. I'd like to give christian fiction more of a chance. I'm a believer and have found some of the christian fiction I've read to air on the cheesy or preachy side but I'll still take this any day over the bad stuff out there. I will say I want to read Janette Oak's books and enjoyed This Present Darkness by Peretti. In the future, I'm considering starting a blog with a list of clean books and ones to avoid to help people out. One more thing. Richard Paul Evans books are great and especially as audio books :)

How do you both look for books at the library?
@ourthriftyhomeschool
@ourthriftyhomeschool 2 года назад
Well….it’s not a very scientific method. 😆 For me, I look for the “inspirational” sticker on the spine (that’s how our library does it). And those are typically the only books I consider. If my daughter finds one she wants to read that isn’t obviously Christian, I’ll flip through it real quick to see if it has bad language or Gods name in vain. I did a video sharing some of the ways we look for good clean books….I’ll link it below if you haven’t seen it. It might help!

It always baffles me when people are totally cool with violence and murder in their media, but an adult character swearing is a step too far.
@ourthriftyhomeschool
@ourthriftyhomeschool 2 года назад
We don’t read super detailed gory murders, Christian murder mysteries are quite mild. But, we all have different convictions. What’s ok with some isn’t ok with others.

@@ourthriftyhomeschool I just think it's slightly absurd to quit a book you like simply because there's a few swear words in it. How do you make it in the real world?
@ourthriftyhomeschool
@ourthriftyhomeschool 2 года назад
It’s not absurd. I don’t enjoy hearing or reading bad language. Of course you’ll hear it in the world around you sometimes, but I’m in control of what I put in my mind and that’s not something I want to put in my mind in my leisure reading. I wouldn’t think it should bother anyone that I choose to read clean books.

I’m a young woman who’s homeschooled (and loves it) it’s always fun to find other homeschool families. I also love reading but I’ve been having a hard time finding an in between with the new modern romances and fiction books AND full on Christian theology books. But I still want clean books. This was a helpful and fun video 😊

Hi, I'm a new subscriber to your channel. I found your channel while I was searching for clean books to read. I used to read more in my 20's and since watching the movie Pride & Prejudice (2005 version) last fall I've wanted to read more. The movie inspired me to read the book because I felt like something was being left out and I was right. I know most movies are based on the book and now I've been bit by the book bug! Have you read any of Richard Paul Evans books? I've only read one so far titled "A Winter Dream". It's sort of like the bible story of Joseph and his 12 brothers. I loved it and made me want to read more of his books. I was gifted 3 used paperbacks but not read them yet. Some of his books are Hallmark movies.
