I want to share an old joke from my youth. There was a Priest, a minister, and a Rabbi. They were talking about how they divvied up the offering plate. The Priest told the others that he drew a circle on the floor, and threw all the money up in the air and what landed inside the circle was Gods and what laned outside the circle was his. The Minister said he did something similar, only in reverse, So what landed outside the circle was for Gods and what landed inside was his. Then the Rabbi looked at both of them in disgust. This is what comes from such young religions with little faith. He told them he did not bother drawing a circle. He just threw the money up into the air and what God wanted he kept.🤣🤣🤣
I’ve been following Josh for several years. I’ve never met him of course but he genuinely seems like such a great person. Side note, a couple of months ago my 72 year old mother sent me one of his clips that she loved so much. Lol Then last week she casually mentioned how she was catching up on the Diddy news by watching Josh. Lol. 72 year old white woman from south Alabama. It makes me laugh every time I think about it.

And I now remember that church is where God’s people come together, so we’re being the church now ! Closest thing to that at the Christian school I grew up at was: we had school dollars. If you did something right like got good scores, helped another student, etc... you'd be given those little strips of printed construction paper. You got enough, you could buy something from the school store (the teachers lounge). Closest thing to money we had there. Except the tuition our parents paid.

I give to charities that I trust for my tithing these days, but I wholeheartedly agree with Josh that if churches were serious about doing the Lord's work, homeless in America at least wouldn't even be a thing. It is shameful how we have these huge churches and people still begging on the streets. I do what I can, give to the homeless or hire them to do odd jobs around my home to give them dignity when I can and they want that. The struggle is real. Love to God and Jesus, always and forever. ❤
The fact that you refer to your former church’s grounds as a campus is so wild to me! Josh Johnson is such a fantastic comedian. So much new content every week-always topical and so well delivered. Back in the 70's into the 80's I was in church every Sunday, it was a way of life. In my preteens I left the church but I did carry along with me some important facts. Married an atheist and immediately found out what was wrong. I had dinner with my daughter the other day and found out she is so much an Angel! I looked at her and said "Do unto others as you would have done to you could change this planet" She looked at me and said "Dad, I know how humanity works" I didn't have the heart to tell her how evil the world actually is. I guess what I am saying is, you don't need a church to be a good person. Just a good grounding and a set of morals.
In my experience if you’re looking for a good church you’ll have a much better chance in smaller churches. There are plenty of good ones still out there.
You are funny, beautiful and smart. And I agree. Jesus did not come to establish a Religion. He came to give us an avenue to THE FATHER. It is called FAITH.
My mother was Catholic, and I think my father is Presbyterian, but I wasn't baptized or expected to follow a religion. Just expected to be kind to others and follow the Golden Rule. I went to Sunday school - my child best friend was Christian and home schooled, and my parents let me join her, despite the fact that everyone in our community talked about how cult like her church was. Even went to Bible camp with her, where she ignored me and joined kids and ridiculing me, and one of the adults tried to convince me to get baptized behind my parents' back. I also followed another friend to a Catholic high school despite my parents' objections. The school was brand new, state of the art, and said they wore uniforms so everybody would be equal and not judged on how much money they came from. My family was always struggling financially. After two years of going there, they introduced name brand uniforms that parents could buy for their kids so they could be distinguished from us poor kids more clearly. Being immersed in religion was how I found my atheism.
One of the most telling things to me when it comes to religion is, where is the very, VOCAL!!!, moral outrage, of all the other denominations, when it comes to all these grifter conmen, teaching nonsense like the prosperity gospel? Well, personally, I think they actively ignore it, because when you look at communities, pastors, reverends, preachers, etcetera are often the richest, or at least living very comfortably, so they don't want to rock the boat. And yet, in the very bible they recite and base their entire profession on, doesn't it say that it's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter heaven? I'm guessing they skip over that one in their teachings, and their congregations just ignore it all together when they are reading the bible. Same thing goes for certain religious groups, who continually try to insert themselves into the political landscape, where are all the other denominations, condemning their actions and calling them out? And people wonder why the fastest growing position on faith in the US, is either, unaffiliated but personally religious or spiritual, agnostic or atheist, and why church attendance is plummeting. That's a real head scratcher, and we haven't even talked about all the scandals involving, SA, financial crimes, hiding and relocating known pedophiles, aka, aiding and abetting known felons, and the list goes on and on.
Amen Britt! 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 is what it's always been about! These fools seem to always be going to heaven but the rest of us can't because we do abc/xyz. Unbelievable. However, I'm seeing a lot of these "mega church" pastors talking about how they received visions of their success. They got a vision alright. Just not from our God.
Y'all... the church I grew up in was 40 people and we rented one room of a community center every Sunday. Sometimes it got cancelled because we didn't pool enough money for the rent that week. Once a year we would have a potluck and throw water balloons at each other in the park. Mega churches are the LEAST relatable thing to me.
I'd vote for him over almost anyone in any office. Can you imagine how powerful his voice would be in a political debate, he makes those crooks look like babies.
There is only one pastor i wld go see anymore because he was the only one i ever cld tell cared. They housed me an my mom because they had us move out there so mom cld run the music program. Great people. Man drove a old run down Buick but went above an beyond for the community.

Yup, it's also why I have issues with the church. But also I grew up in the Catholic church, and as I grew into an understanding adult, I was very put off.

Church is no longer go out to the street and help people living on the street. It is a sad day that we are seeing so many veterans on the street women with children how many times have you seen a church? Go out there and say come we can help you to this this day today October 21. I haven’t seen one.
If you read the accounts of Jesus and the apostle Paul, they told the followers to live as simply as possible. Both had nothing positive to say about those whose main efforts are to acquire great wealth.
Most people who identify as Christian don't actually read the Bible other than what cherry-picked passages they are told to focus on, and therin lies the problem, yeah? The example Jesus set is pushed aside in favor of twisted versions of Leviticus and Job.

If your Pastor, Preacher, Bishop, Cardinal, Pope, ect, ect, has their own plane and live in luxury, the first thing maybe you might want contemplate is, do they believe in God ?
One of my questions has always been do pastors like T.D. Jakes, Joel Olsteen, Creflow Dollar, and Jim Baker ect. actually believe. I know obviously most pastors do believe but I wonder about the rich and famous ones, and on that note if they don't actually believe does their spreading the word they don't actually believe does the good they do outweigh the bad.
I'm skeptical of all mega churches. We attend a very small local church that fits about 90 people. Our pastor preaches and teaches the Word every service....verse by verse teaching.
I believe in God but I'm not religious. My dad was very religious, and I agreed to go to a small town church that he attended in rural Arkansas. All the patrons were very friendly and welcoming. This was a very small building. You couldn't fit more than 50 people in there. There's a stage full of expensive music gear (I know because I was a professional musician at one point), but no pulpit. The PA was massive for such a small space, and the band was good but way too loud. Then the sermon starts. The pastor's voice was so loud that it clipped the mic and was distorted. His sermon was pretty typical. And then, at the end, he said something like, "You need to bless this congregation with donations so that we can get a better sound system so God's voice can be heard." SMH. As we were walking out the pastor stops us and knows I'm new. He says, "So what did you think of the sermon?" I said, "The sermon was good. But I don't think you even need a microphone let alone what you've got already. You've got the Word and you've got the voice." I never went back but my dad told me he built a bigger building.
You can see why Jesus was crucified for speaking out about these kind of churches and preachers. He messed with their money, and they weren't about that at all.
Yes, Josh looks like he could be a relative of yours! And, yes, mega churches have turned off many Christians; especially those teaching the "prosperity gospel!" Your instinct of giving (tithing) to those you and your husband think need help is excellent. I had to explain to my pastor that I give to other non-profits in our community, not just his church. He said he understood, but didn't seem to like my explanation, HA! Anyway, remember churches are God's houses of worship, but are run by fallible humans who will let you down at times. I hope you find a suitable church for your family...the fellowship and teaching (especially for your kids) is important. I hope that your early church years, despite the mall lol and trauma, was a net positive. Mathew 7:16-20 "...Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."
