If the resources of a temple become sufficiently large, it would be usurped by the government in the name of impartial management. Answer: The Church. Before the British left the country, large tracts of precious land were transferred to the Church for very small sums of money. Land from the Indian rulers was annexed by the independent Indian government, while British were allowed to transfer land to the Chruch. As it was now with a religious organization, the government did not touch it. Some Indian rulers like the Travancore royal family donated their entire state to the Padmanabha Swamy Temple. So, by previous logic, it should not have been touched. But, the government annex the entire temple along with its properties. It is fine as long as the rules are fair. Everyone has to follow the same rules. But no. Secularism only works for minority religions. Do temples, mosques, churches, gurdwaras etc. pay taxes in India? can you give me some written proof to justify your statement? bcz acording to article 27 no person shall be compelled to pay any tax or fee for the promotion or maintenance of any particular religion or religious denomination.
They are not falling in tax slab. The govt is asking to deduct TDS from salary. TDS is the tax which is deducted on the payment of certain transactions by the payer. The payee can claim the TDS in their income tax return. Such transactions include salary payments, payments to contractor/subcontractors, interest payable by banks on deposits etc.

Why are various state governments in India paying salaries to religious entities or functionaries ? It is apparent that it is only to garner their votes during elections & this should stop immediately. Anybody, who is drawing salary from the government or a non-governmental body, institution, organisation or the private sector has to abide by the govt. of India's taxation policies. The courts of India should take stern action against those who dare to flout the laws of the country.
I have heard that the government gives salaries to priests of Christian and Muslim culture, but it is never ever known that the government has paid any salary to a priest in a Hindu temple. So how is this Secularism? The duty to pay income tax is applicable to all those who draw a salary irrespective of the source of the salary and also irrespective of the service or the activity that the receiver is doing. In this case either it is priest or nun. They are all bound to pay the taxes.
