Christian Singer Mike Donehey's Take on Biggest Mistake Christians Make When Balancing Truth & Love

Mike Donehey, who has led his vocals to hit music group Tenth Avenue North for years, is wading into our ever-contentious cultural chaos with his new book, "Grace in the Gray: A More Loving Way to Disagree." Donehey recently told CBN's Faithwire what he believes many Christians get wrong while trying to strike the difficult balance between truth and love. "They think it's their job to save people, and so when you think it's your job to change someone's mind, you don't care how offensive you come across," he said. "You don't care how hard you press. You're like, 'This is my shot and I need to save them.'" But Donehey pointed to the Apostle Paul's comments to Timothy imploring him to correct opponents with gentleness. 2 Timothy 2:24-26 reads: "And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will." Donehey warned against speaking the truth with no regard for tone and feelings. "God is the one who ultimately changes people's minds," he said. "Not you." Watch for his full explanation.

The Bible says let your yes be yes and your no be no . Basically no room for maybe or a gray area. If it's not of God who does it come from?

Why do i get a sense that this singer is an OSASer ? God is not ok with grey/luke warm... either you're warm or cold, for His commandments or against it. Correct me if i am wrong about Mike...

He isn't saying "gray" as in "lukewarm," but "gray" as in areas where Christians legitimately disagree. There are a lot of tertiary doctrines where there is genuine disagreement among solid believers, and even when there is no gray according to the Bible, we still need to react more graciously to those who disagree. He's not saying that we should be lukewarm or even be complacent towards those who are, just that we need to speak the truth in love, and where there is a genuine gray area, be less self-assured. Side note-A lot of people say "there is no gray!" which is true. With God, there is no gray, but none of us see clearly, which is why we see gray. And since we see gray, we need to be less self-assured and always studying the Bible to correct our vision.

There is no balance to be had between truth and love, there is no one side or the other, but we are to always speak the truth in love, as Christ did, which if you remember got him crucified.

speak the truth in love. don't condemn OR condone. always be ready to give an answer to those who ask. the only people Jesus was ' harsh ' were religious nuts. with us lost/backsliders/prodigals he spoke the truth in love. I have Mormon friends who listen because I don't compromise Jesus nor do I argue with them. And they DO ask about the hope, joy and LOVE that is in me. some have accepted Jesus the same with my Muslim friends. Jesus loved them all and told them the truth. some believed in Him, some didn't. I have been told my attitude of love and compassion compelled them to listen. I haven't read this book yet, simply telling my experiences.

"How do you know what you believe if you don't know what other people believe?" How is this question even biblical? Christ never told us to go throughout the world and collect everyone's opinions and then form your own. He said believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.

"There is no right or wrong, sinful or righteous behavior, only Fifty Shades of Grey." This is the typical Godless millennial nonsense that you hear everyday, both in and out of the church. Yet for the true bible-believing follower of Christ, God's word is very clear on many subjects which so many wrongly feel are just situational.
