I had a little time to chat with a guy named Trevon in the Little Five Points area of Atlanta. We talked about his belief that we are all our own gods and some other interesting topics.

I'm in tears because it is SO rare to see this. Two black men. A straight Christian black man treating a gay non believer black man with full respect, love, dignity. All the while engaging in sharing biblical truth. Thank you for setting this example.

I recently converted into Christianity again because my guy would challenge with me with questions. I didn't even know how to answer questions regarding my other believes after a while. So I questioned myself... Proof that I was lost. But now that I am back, I am stronger than ever before. The wisdom that the powerful Word of God provides does not compare. ONE MUST READ THE BIBLE! Otherwise, you'll be told lies upon opinions and that doesn't serve us any justice. It's all in the Bible. Now I'm sure about why I believe in God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. GLORY BE TO GOD!

Preston's a master at consistently finding the gaps in people's world views and he delivers challenges to them in gracious, effective ways. I would add that there is also a consistent root to their rejections of the Gospel in the way of broken experiences. These experiences leave a wound that they do not think Jesus can heal - and they often think that because it was caused by someone who claims to bear His name. I would challenge all believers to compliment these tactics with that of directly addressing the brokenness people experience and help them see how those experiences are probably informing their misgivings about Christianity. Much love for this guy and what he's doing.

Bro this dude went straight to the fundamental presuppositions! We need more Christians out here not arguing against homosexuality as a sin itself, but arguing against the moral paradigm in which people who condone homosexuality operate in. I guarantee you all of them will be sophistic moral relativists, and after you argue for absolute truth relativism crumbles into absurdity.

It really seems like the guy he is speaking to does know the right way but he just doesn't know what turning from his sin looks like and maybe he is scared because the life he has lived is the only one he knows. Turning from anything good or bad can be hard or scary. The ex-con has trouble walking the right path when getting out because he doesn't know model citizen behavior and/or no one will give him a chance, so he turns back to what he knows. This guy will have a hard road running into people who are not willing to help him change like Preston. I'm enjoying this conversation and they was they are treating each other. Respect and kindness goes a long way. If everybody spoke with each other like this in every aspect of their lives we would get much further with each other in every way. Now, if this brother or someone like him spoke to me a long time ago it will have saved me a lot of pain against others and myself.

OK so at three minutes and 42 seconds you’re talking about an incident that happened at a church. My guess is that you only saw the video clip of when the man was asked to leave. There is a long history of this man at that church and there is a long history of conversation and counseling that took place that you’re not taking into consideration. So please don’t take that one incident and judge that pastor based on that one little thing. You need to know the whole story of what happened before you place any kind of judgment against him.
@plkaluvr4185
@plkaluvr4185 5 лет назад
Regardless of the backstory, the way that person was ostracized and dismissed was unacceptable and NOT done out of love. Period. That was not of Christ, and there's not anyone who could convince me otherwise. What that pastor did and how he handled it was an embarrassment.

@girumzemichael704
@girumzemichael704 5 лет назад
ToniaRhone The backstory IS important! I’m not for throwing anyone out of church for any reason but in that particular incident, it was the right thing to do based on everything that had gone between the man and the church leader before that incident. People kick out impossibly irresponsible or insolent adult children out of their house; that’s more or less how that went. Jesus had turned tables and kicked people out of a temple, are we going to say that was not of God because it was harsh? These incidents are about the people who that happened to and where their hearts are; it takes discernment, you can’t make a rule out of it but it needs to happen once in a while?

I have chosen Buddhism because I recognize that Christianity is not an open space for me. There's nothing wrong with some spaces being exclusive as long as both sides are being respectful. I.e., I should respect y'all's rights to your beliefs and same goes in return. So I have no right to invalidate or claim that homosexuality and adultery are sins in the Bible. Same way you can't deny that drinking alcohol and adultery are wrong in my views. I recognize that intentionally marrying a man I will never love will be harmful, so I cannot do that. I must understand and acknowledge how my actions affect others. And if I know that the other side will be negatively affected (in this case, me devastating a man by lying to him), I should not do it. With that in mind, we should be respectful to each other's faiths. I'd never call God "fictional sky man" or whatever, because I respect other people's views. Same way I shouldn't be invalidated for belonging to another religion

It’s kinda like saying “because I no longer gossip I’m a Christian” which obviously wouldn’t be the case. But I understand your point as well, when we come to Christ our behaviour and our heart changes towards things that are Godly. Even when we repent, while being Christian we turn away from our sin and our heart is regenerated by the holy spirt. So you are right!

Two questions. You say you were a former atheist, but what do you mean by you "questioned what you believed"? Also, what was the event that made you into a theist?
@1pillarmark
@1pillarmark 5 лет назад
jettythesunfish believed in atheism. It is a belief to not believe. There were a series of events of learning about the Gospel, the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Mainly that I am a sinner. I’ve broken God’s laws (10 commandments) and I needed a Savior. The moment is something that God has done for me because I could not and cannot save myself. I believe in the one true God who sent His Son, Jesus Christ to do what I could not do. I’m not a theist. I am a Christian. Read the Bible, I like the English standard version, personally. Know the facts about Christianity read up on it. I did. One day it was beyond a shadow of a doubt that Christianity is the only way.

I think he went looking not so much for something that would agree with him. That can be part of it. But something and someone that wouldn't hurt him. And that's different. A lot of ppl turn away from Christianity bc they are smart enough to know that the ones giving them the message are not for them. They are hurting them. And a lot of ppl turn to Jesus and come out of their sin bc they finally come in contact with the truth that he loves them and is not out to hurt them. That love or the lack of it changes everything.

You said Ethiopia was one of the first Christian nations in the 5th century 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽facts
@450Flamezz
@450Flamezz 5 лет назад
It was actually earlier than that. Remember, in the book of Acts, the Eunuch of Queen Candace of Ethiopia who the Apostle Phillip found traveling from Jerusalem reading the book of Isaiah? That was 1st Century AD. He got baptized by Philip and returned to Ethiopia to convert the whole kingdom. We know this to be factual because by 4th Century AD the entire Aksum Empire (which was the ruling empire in Northern Ethiopia) accepted Christianity. Some even claim the Aksumites to be descendants of the Queen of Sheba who met with King Solomon. Therefore, Ethiopians very likely knew of the True & Living God even before the time of Christ. @collinwalker550
@collinwalker550 5 лет назад
Ehhhh, I haven't seen scripture to support that all sins are viewed as the same level of "evil" by God. All sin causes men to fall short of the Glory of God, however, that doesn't mean there aren't varying punishments for differing degrees and acts of sin. I think that is displayed clearly in the Old Testament law. By God instituting varying degrees of "just" punishment, I think those punishments indicate God's view on the sin's level of severity. Think of it this way... would it be just for Hitler to receive the same amount of punishment as a liar and petty thief? I think we can all agree that would not be just, and we must remember God is perfectly just. When pointing people to Christ, I don't think focusing on the degree of sin is important because Christ's sacrifice covers all sin, however that's not to say it doesn't exist.

@@collinwalker550 Our justice is different from God's justice. Would you not agree that there is only one Hell. But there is more than one way to pay for a crime in the world- fine, community service, jail. But when God was saying sin is sin he was saying that Jesus blood covers it all- that's why he is a just God. God gives out righteous judgment not just judgement- A loving justice that provides a second chance before damnation.
