All Christians are called to white martyrdom, and some Christians are also called to red martyrdom. When we pray and fast, we answer the call to white martyrdom. Christians must do battle against their three great foes: the flesh (internal), the world (external), and the devil (infernal). “The evil one is incapable of inspiring you with faith or hope or love, since he lacks all three of these.” (St Joseph the Hesychast, d. 1959).

Thank you, Fr. Spyridon, for your timely message. I'm taking a class on early church history, and part of that discourse is how the early Christian martyrs were murdered for their faith. We in the west have a high standard of living, and often do not know what it's like to suffer in our everyday lives. As a result, we have become soft. I admit that the thought of being murdered for my faith sometimes scares me, but I take it to the Father: please help me in that time to be a witness to your son. Give me the courage to stand. I love it how the Holy Spirit brings God's teaching to me -- to all of us -- in a timely manner, because I recently have been thinking about this very thing.

You do not have to lay down and die though. We have a right to defend ourselves. I know we do not seek vengence but we dont have to let people kill us and our family, like if a mugger comes at your wife with a knife are you just gonna let him do it, no.

I've heard somewhere that there will come a time that even saying "Jesus Christ is my savior" will be enough to make a saint of you. The time is coming quickly, if it's not already here. I'm not ready to be a martyr yet. Let me baptized first. I hope I will be soon.

I feel worried for the future knowing that faith in Christ is becoming more and more strained as the world slowly falls to sin 😔 I know it’s been written, and Christ will have to come back eventually but I can’t help but be worried watching the world fall more and more to evil. Blows my mind that it’s only going to get worse 😢 I pray for the world.

Father in heaven, give us the discernment to know your will for us and the courage to face the trials set before us. Heavenly father, let us be the wheat and not the chaffe, that you may know us, when our time here is complete. Father, I pray that all of us, even those that do not know you, find you father. Father in heaven please grant us compassion, forgiveness, honesty, courage, and may we pray continually that we not fall into temptation. Amen.

Hi I haven't been a Christian for very long probably coming up to a year, gone through various stages from protestant and now wanting to move into orthodoxy and be baptised etc, but even in my new found faith Jesus have given me such freedom that no other can give and for this I give him my life and would die for his holy and mighty name , truly humbled by his grace and mercy . I fall short and he catches me I lose hope for my shortcomings and he catches me, truly he is the only one who never changes he loves unconditionally while us fickle humans let each other down , Praise be God and our Saviour Jesus Christ 🙏

Reduce the tempation. First disable all notifications. ALL notification. YOU check the phone, when you want it, not when the phone pings for your attention. Also what I did was remove all icons from the homescreen, now I need to type to search and open an app. The extra step makes you less likely to just browse from app to app. Extra bonus for the next step: turn your screen into grayscale (there are ways in the system settings). You will notice how IG photos will lose their draw, and videos will become boring. Remember: Boring is good for your soul. It’s hard, but these steps really help to get a hold on the beast.

Solid stuff. “Parents we should raise our kids as martyrs” is a tough one for me to stomach as a single man. As this is an authentic path indeed. But I’m finding it more charitable to not put my own potential future kids through that and instead spending my time “raising, teaching, and bringing” others that are currently living to Christ. Help helpful other perspective.?

Another (hopefully helpful) perspective: To be martyred for faith in Christ is not a shame nor a tragedy or a hardship to bear but a glory and an honor and a joy to be chosen. Just as Christ's crucifixion was not a defeat as Satan thought it would be but rather was a victory, a victory for all creation. This is why the saints who have been martyred went to their deaths not with sorrow or regret but with joy and gladness. Philippians 1 (KJV) 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 1 Corinthians (KJV) 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Russia is the only christian country today speaking of collective martyrdom, when their soldiers are doing offensive warfare against orthodox civilians. But they are right, with the exception that the ones recieved by Christ in heaven are their victims. Do you mean prosletising? We do not proselytise as Orthodox. Seeking Martydom seems to be a popular topic in 2024! Worldwide there are many miracles. How do we know if 2024 is more despotic than earlier times? The demarcation between good and evil stays in equal pressure according to spiritual philosophy. Such generalisations infected with protestantism.
