Met him onces. One of the intelligent persons I have ever talked to. Great statement of him in "Bowling for Columbine" as Michael Moore asked him, what he would have said to these kids. Manson answered: "Nothing, I would listened to what they have to say, because that is what nobody did."

@DJ DaveRave aka Dave Gordon Interesting take. I'm guessing you know him in person and have gathered information first hand? Or are you just spouting what you've read online? Calling someone a freak? **** you, and **** people like you, you judgemental fool. You've insulted a culture, women, a person and you've both victim blamed and acted like an victim at the same time. How about this? Withhold judgement, you say you wouldn't judge him, but you did and any women (WOMEN) that may be attracted to someone like that apparently isn't held to your standards. You're judgemental, you're less than the people you judge instantaneously. How can I say that? Because we wouldn't judge you on what we've heard or how you look or your shows act. I will judge you on the way you treat and judge others. This, incidentally, why I'm anti-religion and pro-don't-be-a-dick. People need to learn to live with each other before trusting the god-of-the-gaps. You need to learn not to cast asinine assumptions before making comments, in the same vein you can be "redeemed" by fucking clarifying yourself and not being an absolute ****.

I really desperately hope that you two do a full album reaction to ‘Antichrist Superstar’ when you all get the chance. Everything you talked about in this episode, particularly about Manson seeming sad and the struggle of being a messianic figure is explored within the album. It’s essentially about a figure, “The Worm,” growing up in an oppressive society and wanting to change it. He becomes a messianic figure known as “Little Horn” who tries to preach against this, but society venerates him instead of heeding his warning *against* societal hierarchy. Depressed and all too aware that this was a failure, he decides to self-destruct and take the world down with him since it can never be changed. Extremely nihilistic and Nietzschean, and very sad Sori, but I do hope you all can experience it. Plus regardless of plot, it has some KILLER songs

You two never cease to amaze me. Manson loves controversy, or to be "offensive", which in the 90s wasn't nearly as easy as today. He said, "Offending people is a necessary and healthy act. Every time you say something that’s offensive to another person, you just caused a discussion. You forced them to have to think" Well, that's what you guys did. You thought about his perspective vs adverse opinions vs the majority. I like to point out in every comment I leave y'all is that I'm an atheist. For anyone else reading, I also love every creed, race, and religion. I feel like I should add this side note to demonstrate that we're not so different, you and I. It's an extremely controversial difference, but arbitrary for humanity, nonetheless. And as always, much love out to you guys. To have an open mind is to have wisdom. Peace
@bigpoppa1979able
@bigpoppa1979able 5 лет назад
Btw, I would absolutely love to sit down and have a conversation with y'all. I live in Southeast Missouri...the "buckle" of the bible belt. My lack of belief is not a popular opinion around here, and actually very detrimental to me were I to voice it. You guys are not only open-minded, but wise in terms of people's opinions and/or beliefs. Around here, I'm automatically the Antichrist Superstar when someone finds out I'm an atheist. It's tiresome. It also causes such a rift between good friends And family that I become ostracized, and not by my choice. When I watch your channel my heart receives hope for humanity; hope for myself. Sorry for the rant. I don't ever get a chance to chat with a religious person on our differing points of view. It automatically becomes an argument that I have to walk away from. Y'all keep it real, you keep it peaceful, and you always make us think. As always, much love ❤ Maybe one day we'll meet, and can have that conversation.

Thats hilarious that you think it wasnt as easy to be "offensive" in the 90s considering back then you couldnt even say "fuck" on tv or people were offended by two dudes kissing in public or that people were offended by the ripping of the bible.

I've been a die-hard Marilyn Manson fan since 1994. I absolutely adore his first three records. Yet he still strikes me as being a profoundly lonely and disassociated person. That's why I like his music. It's depressing, corrupted, resentful, and angry. Yet he actively refuses to embrace any higher power. That driven dichotomy is overwhelming, insofar as it being the start-point of his supreme triggering. All my love and faith is for the Lord, yet I still massively appreciate MM's 90s music. You're right. It's very sonically appealing, yet still sad as hell. Which is likewise entirely the point. He couldn't make the music any differently. And that doesn't mean we have to agree with him. And I still love his tones and compositions. At the end of the day, he's an artist. His music stands out. And I'm grateful for his output.

Marilyn Manson is a shock rocker. He's there to leave the masses shocked and the few to think. Yes, he's ripped bibles up, whipped his ass with the american flag, gave himself a womans figure in Drugs but all of these things hes doing to make his audiences think. He is such an intelligent man if youd ever heard him speak youd know EXACTLY what im talking about. He's using his platform the way he should, making music about serious issues within society. Religion, politics, suicide, rape, molestation. People pin him as "satanic, evil, or weird" but he's using that and all that hate to spread his message even more. With Marilyn, even bad press is good press for him. Take his lyrics seriously and his actions not so much so, but most of all look at everything as a whole and dive into the deeper meanings

In the antichrist superstar album, several things are repeated in a total of either 3s, 7s, or 15s. 3 and 7 should ring a bell in terms of numerology, whereas in the major arcana of tarot cards the 15th card is "the devil". The "prick your finger, it is done" bit is one of the ones repeated 7 times (2 here and 5 in cryptochid). The ritual or curse begins in cryptochid where the character begins his transformation into the antichrist superstar, and finishes here, symbolizing that it is complete - that the little horn has ascended (or descended) into the man that you fear.

I haven’t always agreed with your interpretations of his lyrics, but I’ve learned a lot from both of your perspectives, and I’ve come to really enjoy it. I’m looking forward to (hopefully) hearing your reaction to more songs from this album. By the way, Vin - I thought your comment about Manson and the teenage girl with the carvings was particularly interesting. If you are worried about him being the voice and the influence of the people.... listen to him speak. One of the most well spoken and intelligent people on earth. He made millions being the mirror showing us what we ignore. From hypocrisy in the church, in the state, in the bedrooms at home and the drugs we use to numb abuse and neglect (as opposed to talking about it which was the result of his influence).... he helped speak about unspoken disgusting aspects of (as the first album is aptly named) The Portrait of an American Family....

Briefly and clarifying the song's concept, the antichrist supertar is a reference to a political figure formed by the population desire, a type of Hitler (who was an authoritarian leader, but was democratically elected) The use of Christianity in this analog it's because many of these "leaders" are supported by some Christian groups. Basically you can see this song as "killing in the name" but the protagonist is not pointing out the enemy, he is playing his role.
@Delandos
@Delandos 5 лет назад
The album Antichrist Superstar has a double meaning, it's the last part in his tryptisch trilogy, Holy Wood being part one, Mechanical Animals; part 2. In it's entirety it's a story of the birth of a christlike figure who has a fall from grace and becomes the antichrist. Also the album it's self is a direct social commentary on christianity in america [let's say 70's til mid 90's], and it was a direct attack on censorship from christian groups. The live tour 'Dead to the World Tour' that followed this album had a lot of christian and conservative protesters, which Manson and his band reacted to with more shock. Like tearing up bibles. A church-like stage design and a lot of chanting against protesters, police, government and christianity.
@ct5625
@ct5625 4 года назад
Late to this, but I went to this tour so feel the need to comment. The entire performance is about combining the evil dictator with the religious preacher. Obviously we know the theme of the song, but as you can see from a few props this was also trying to make a point about free will and a comparison between obeying a religious order and obeying an evil dictator (what would you do to appease your preacher, and are you anything less than evil for doing so?) There were a lot of references to Hitler in the show, like a physical manifestation of evil. Manson's movements are exaggerated and extreme, exactly as you see with almost every dictator of the last hundred years. It's all deliberate, and quite clever. Honestly, most people think Manson was just being a shocking as possible, but there's a lot of intent and meaning in everything he did back then, the shock is just a fun side-effect :)

Everyone don't blame them this song was a patreon pick. I was the patron who picked it and I choose the live version for the Nazi symbology with the podium/shock symbol, for the Bible tearing and for the energy of classic live Manson. There was much discussion behind closed doors as to which version to pick and I would have loved the Dead to the world version but the only copy I could find was on the official channel and would likely get a copyright strike. Unfortunately this isn't the highest quality audio or video but I choose what I believed would give them the best idea of what Manson is after their disappointing previous Manson reactions.

I miss this era of music when it was politically advantageous to condemn music and art to 'protect the children'. The NIN song "Big Man with a Gun" was slammed for being a 'violent hardcore rap song' for years and was used as evidence in congressional testimony by angry midwestern moms. Trent created it to encapsulate madness while also shitting on gangster rap culture...and it's also not a rap song.

You should really check out the whole album. It goes from birth, to death, to transformation similarly like Jesus in the Bible. Also, he usually tears up the Book of Mormon rather than a Bible because it is free to the public and one of the first places he played this album live was in Utah and was protested by several Mormons, so during the show he gave them a big middle finger by tearing up their book on stage. Reciting "he loves me, he loves me not... ending in a final "FUCK HIM!"

Thank you so freaken much for bringing up "The Passing Of The Bucket Around"!! I am so over that!! I am a Christian, yes. And, Marilyn Manson is my absolute favorite human being!! One I would love to just sit down and conversate with!! Because, I truly do understand him fully!! I went to a "Christian School" and was called Jezebel and told I was going to hell daily...and also I was kicked out of Youth Group at my Church due to me being "Goth-Like" and "different." This ONLY caused me to ride the role of "the villain" and walk the path of rebellion to the absolute fullest for such a long time!! Even now actually, as a Christian, I always still go against the grain. I know my walk with God and it does not have to consist to "conforming" or partaking in the Tithe as in "The Passing Of The Bucket." I love My Jesus, I love My Manson, and I love myself and my neighbor too. I am so thankful for Marilyn Manson!! He gives me life daily through his Art. I am an Artist myself, and I relate to him and understand him fully. And that...makes this girl feel complete. 💋

Also bear in mind that the title Antichrist Superstar is a reference to the the 70s rock opera/album called Jesus Christ Superstar. It was a well known album back in the day. And other commenters are right- always do studio versions of Manson; much better musically.

Speaking of Marilyn Manson always makes me think of madness - he artistically portrays it through music & art - not that HE is mad though. When I did my military service, back in the days, I had a buddy there whose brother was "admitted". He was older than my buddy here, by a few years. When my friend talked about him he said that his brother has "fought against himself" for his whole life, from committing suicide. Almost since he could remember, being a sentient being (I dont know..around 4-5 years old) he said he was going through a constant DAILY barrage of impulses to either kill himself, or murder someone else. If you take a pause there, and try to imagine this kind of onset on your mind, non-stop, every waking hour, where he tries to fight for his own `greater self´ that wont do what the "voices say", and have this hammering at your mind for, lets say for a week? Would you cope? Try having them for 20 years....or 75 (normal life expectancy). I dont think we should judge people that hard when they decide to end their life after being BATTERED 24/7 their whole life. Sometimes you cant "medicate" away demons. Suicide is awful - it hurts everyone around the person committing it. But when you hear what some of them are going through, I think it is a blessing. I dont mean teen-angst suicide thoughts because the boyfriend/girlfriend has broken up with you, and you think life is shit "for a moment". THIS is something completely different.

With kids (and Manson) it sometimes it feels like screaming into the void. Whether you cooperate or rebel - comply or reject it didn't matter - life still sucked, was oppressive or mean or sad. Being told to be happy, or compliant, or believe (religion, politics, family code) is soul crushing and it often has no where to go but internally. I love Manson for screaming into the void for everyone and making what some people consider "sacred", profane.

Ok, to clariffy some things: Antichrist Superstar is a concept album and part of a(n) (inverse) trilogy, first come HolyWood, then Mechanical Animals (symbolism here: Alchemical Human, you try to figure it out what doesthat mean) and finally Antichrist Superstar which ends with the song "Man that you fear". The meaning in Antichrist Superstar is similar to the one found in "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" by Friederich Nietzsche, a prophet who is miserable by trying to deliver a message, then is not heard and even mocked by the population, thushaving this process of self discovering and finally being murdered by his own passions and the people in general (there is an interrelation that Manson wants to assimilate between those concepts), so the complexity and symbols that are in the lyrics are really thought provoking, but hard to define. To understand this album, song and the Manson's art beyond the superficial, visit "The nachtkbarett" (they have a fb pge with the link to their web archive, sadly the main webpge is down :/ ) to know more about some "clues" that Brian Warner has left throughout his career. Greetings from a Chilean fan :)

It is interesting what the girl says. because recently I was thinking about Manson's career (since I've been a fan for 26 years) that his music allowed him to generate that catharsis of emotions. 🤯🔥🎖 I say this because you said that he seemed sad, and I think that through his music he managed and release a monster that ended up turning him into a rock star 🎸🤘🏼 and that makes him an interesting character for psychology if we see him from that point of view 🧠
@GhostCrowGamer

while he was writing the lyrics to Holywood he went into a deep depression and cut himself over 100 times with a razor, with that being said Michael Jackson's Daughter wanted to see him live in a concert and the family said no, so she starts cutting her wrist and MM went to visit in the hospital giving her backstage VIP passes to his concert. I listened to MM when I was a child and through the hell that endured through bullying through my teachers, principles, and Christian Church group AKA bible study with snobby rich kids and their parents, always rubbing their money in my face, I was able to get through all that torment with the help of MM Music. "I Never Hated the One True God, but the God of the People I Hated" -MM People's religion always creates bigotry and Death. Every religion out there has become some type of cult in one way or another. I don't dislike people for following their beliefs in bettering themselves or helping others, it's the bigotry, hate, violence, and lies, that can follow it in which people become sheep to the wolf aka cult leaders, and not think for themselves.

Antichrist Superstar (the album) is a concept album. "The central storyline of the album revolves around a supernatural being who seizes all political power from humanity in order to initiate an apocalyptic end event." It also has an atheistic line, which is at the top in the Reflecting god.

You guys should have definitely listened to 1996 before this. 1996 is the song where the Antichrist is born and Antichrist Superstar comes directly after it on the album. He gives you his reason for the Antichrist character. The album isn't really a religious statement. By the way Sori, Manson pretty much wanted you to feel sad or at least feel something by his music. He wants to provoke you to think. He wants to provoke change with his music, change for the better.
