Sides' release is good for the Fever but I'm not so sure how much a new coach - such as White - can do if the WNBA doesn't clean up the pathetic officiating.
Forget the officiating whining. Clark will get every call next year. But, to win a championship the Fever need to compliment her with an adequate supporting cast. Phil Jackson couldn't coach this present team to a championship. The coach and officiating whining is coming from fans that really don't have a realistic understanding of basketball and competition.
@@robertparker3586the officiating was bad overall if you watch more than just Fever games. I’ve watched quite a few other games and it was just as bad if not worse. But I do agree with you that they need a few other complimentary players to go along with Clark. Preferably one that can rebound. They also need to sign Mitchell.
Somebody said in any other season she would still be here. CC is here now though and it’s not the same. She did bring in team culture and we witnessed that, so kuddos to her for that and keeping their lockeroom about the game. But she’s not ready to coach with CC on it. I wish her the best!
The other reason is that the team around CC won despite of Christie Sides not because of her. The proof? If you have been watching the games the team could have won 5-6 games more by not wasting leads and showing a better defensive game, All things that can be improved upon by good coaching unfortunately throughout the season it is something that could nit be shown by Christie Sides. The other thing is her sub par coaching might have become a hindrance in attracting elite free agents over time if it was not the case even now.
@@michelleblanc6377 I agree. She was slow to change, change line ups, slow to call timeouts. I don’t know if it was pride or what. There were some Positives and of course things to work on to get her to be a coach that can win a ring. Now can englebert leave and the refs be consistent?
I have mixed emotions about this, at first I didn't like Sides BUT she went from a 13-27 regular season record to a 20-20 regular season record...she's obviously improving
Sides obviously wasn’t the coach that could properly manage the CC effect, But be forewarned, whoever they bring in as the next head coach better produce way better than Sides. Translation: A full utilization of Clark’s talent, protection for her at all times, and a serious championship run next season. Or the media and the fans will have her/his head on a pike within 2 months. Can’t wait to see how this all plays out.

I know others thought the new president's comments on Sides were a sign she would stay, but it was obvious to me when the new president called Sides a very nice person. That is the kiss of death & what you tell someone when you break up with them.

Oh my gosh, I did not think it would happen! The Fever need a coach who will realize that Clark has enough knowledge about the game that she, Clark can run the team from the floor. What then are the coach's responsibilities? He/She must promote team cohesiveness as well as design and implement teaching drills during practice. More than anything, a good coach is a good teacher of team skills. Individual skills are usually left to the individual at the professional level, but team skills require that everyone be "on board" during practice. On board not just physically but emotionally! Yes, individual skills can be learned and enhanced by good coaches, but most of the coaches time will be taken up by all of the team at the same time.

Not overly shocked. I have nothing against Sides and think she will land on her feet somewhere. I am guessing the Fever don't want to waste another year letting her grow with the team, and can't blame them when they have this much raw talent on the court. Good luck to coach Sides.
This reminds me of the early 90s Bulls, when they went front Doug Collins to Phil Jackson. Collins got them started, and Jackson took them over the top.
I doubt CC had anything to do with Coach Sides being let go. CC doesn't seem like that kind of person and Coach SIdes in the second half of the year was finally realizing what she had in CC. But the new management realized what they need to do to get the team to the NEXT LEVEL . That said , thank you Coach Sides for building a fun team culture.
I was always amazed and disappointed that the Fever ownership did not really appreciate their position and their future in the league with Clark, but apparently they are far smarter than I ever gave them credit; a new broom sweeps clean. They are all in.
This management team lead by Kelly Krauskopf is not messing around! For those new to this, this is pretty much what it looks like when a new management team, who has experienced success, comes in with the purpose of establishing a culture of excellence. My NFL team (Washington) is doing the exact same.
Caitlin Clark is the "Family Jewels" not only of the Fever but the WNBA as a whole. You never put at risk the family jewels. You keep them safe and secure at all times.
Good move. Sides and Dunn aren't the two that can handle this monumental transition of the league with the Caitlin effect. With the $ coming in and the potential of everything they made the right call imo. Another I thing I noticed is how few times any of the players mentioning Sides as being a leader or mentor. Never heard any players talk about her ever.
Woooooooooow I've had so much PTSD from Christie Sides NOT being fired during the season it is hard for me to believe that she is actually gone. (and for the anal YT'ers - no, I don't really have PTSD).
Just my opinion, it wouldn't be a completely bad idea for the Sky to consider hiring Sides. I think sides would be a good coach for the Reese and Cordosa since she wants a team that plays inside out. The "Twin Towers" is going to be the best front court in the WNBA beginning next season and Sides may be the coach they need.
the coach (sides) didn't get the indiana fever into the play offs it was Clarks Brilliance and Mitchell showing up to bail out Coach Sides' bad coaching. They (indiana's big three) were winning despite the bad coaching that is Christie Sides.
Sides obviously had her Flaws but I do feel sad for her. The Fever will get a better coach but with fans like the ones Caitlin Clark has whoever the coach is gonna be a scapegoat just like Sides.
She never stood up for CC, and that was unacceptable. Late season Sides was better than early season Sides when she basically made CC a shooting guard in the corner, not a point guard, and stupidly benching her when she was needed on the court, losing leads every time. But while she improved, it was slow and lacked insight. Glad that’s over.
I was not a Sides fan in the beginning…… but I felt like she was building a good culture that would pay off in the end. I would have thought one more season. Best of luck Coach Sides!
This is more like a bittersweet moment. I remember Sides being really happy when Fever selected CC, but now, she is fired primarily because of CC. So, CC arriving is the best and worst thing that could have happened to Sides. You gotta give credit to Sides for enhancing the team chemistry though, but her coaching talent was exposed when CC arrived, and Sides clearly wasn't the coach to take Fever to the next level.
Seems to me that Stephanie White was in the congratulatory video to Caitlin Clark because Stephanie is a commentator for the Big10 Network. She does look like a good fit for the Fever just the same.
Sides should have been fired before the season ended as she didn’t know how to handle her personnel or when to rest players such as Caitlin Clark so that she was in top form with all of the ugly fiscal fouls she took as welll as playing almost the entire game every game!
Hire Kathie Layden. Best coach in Indiana. The Fever need a teacher/developer to get the team on track. Layden has won 5 IHSAA state titles with one 3-peat and a back2back at a different school with a chance at another 3peat. Kathie won her first title at age 26 and had a 3-peat by 28. Had 4 D1 players from a public school with only 600 students. One made the All Big 10 freshman team and another led the Big 10 in rebounding. In 2020 only 2 Big 10 freshmen were invited to tryout for US U-19 team, one was Caitlin Clark and the other, her daughter Madison. Kathie was also nominated for national coach of the year in 2019. Her teams play an Iowa style game. They move the ball and keep their heads up with minimal dribble. If you play for her you better get your track shoes on.
The Fever made it to the playoffs despite Side's terrible coaching. So Clark and the team will achieve way more with a skilled and experienced head coach.
Sides was not responsible for getting the Fever to the playoffs. Stephanie White was too liberal to the crap her Sun players pulled on Caitlin. Hope she's not the new coach.
I have felt so bad for wanting someone fired! ... .... But Coach Sides just seemed way in over her head at such a pivoltal moment in the sport, especially for The Fever. (Down to the basics: Not figuring out the best rotations earlier on, not knowing how to develop/teach/utilize offenseive/defensie plays, or even strategical use of Time Outs/Reviews) .... I do wonder if she was the reason for what seemed to be a very healthy team culture despite all the unprecedented eyes and diversity. If so, that was SUPER valuable but no enough by itself ... If it hadn't been such a pivotal moment in the sport's history, I probably would have been more open to giving her another year .... Best wishes to her ... Signed, an Iowa native/grad and newbie Fever fan.
I agree. If they didn’t have a name already who will be an improvement, I wouldn’t favor it. Sides is a young HC and I think she’ll get better. Might even get hired somewhere soon. But fever are in win now mode and White is a good choice.
Sorry but I never thought Christie Sides was the right fit for the Indiana Fever. She never really set up any plays or strategies for her players until after the Olympics. Sh also had player confusion and who to play and when. Many other goofy decisions throughout the session didn't help. Letting her go was no surprise so now let's wait and see what the Fever's future has.
Would this team have won a championship with a different coach? Absolutely not. It's all about the player acquisitions put around Clark. The Liberty's coach couldn't win a championship with this roster.
Reason why Fever has totally change the organization from Top Management President , Gen Manager to Head Coach because of Catlin Clark ..She is main mover of this shakeup. The owner realizes that to make CC can achieve / succeed she should be supported from top to bottom including range of recruitment top players to support CC
Sides finally benched Smith?!?! Were we watching the same team? “Sack of Potatoes” “the trader” Smith Started every game except for the last game in the playoffs.
Her video about Rookie of the year spoke volumes and was a clear indication that she still wasn't excited about CC and her position with the team. Will White's style of coaching be a good fit for CC and the type of offense they do best with?
Yesssss!!! They will LEARN How to PLAY DEFENSE!!!! COACH WHITE WILL GAVE CAITLIN CLARK full Leadership on the COURT!! REMEMBER?? COACH White Know CAITLIN CLARK weak Points!!!
finally! i am not a basketball expert. but in so many years of watching basketball, it's only when i was watching the fever games that i realized something was off with the coaching. lexi was a good hustle player but she was not starting... temi was a better defender and run-and-gun player, and nalyssa was making negative impact to the games but she was starting over temi... playing katy lou which was horrible... taking the ball away from caitlin during crucial parts of the game... and so on. i felt that christie was a good person, maybe even a good friend to the players. but not the right fit as a coach. good luck to her on her future endeavors. hope she finds a good place, and hope the fever finds a good replacement.
Indiana made the playoffs because of Caitlin Clark and her court knowledge to create open shots and not Sides coaching abilities. Lisa Bluder said it best, she had to change her coaching style to fit the Caitlin Clark game. Lets see how close I am, Indiana will pay White 1.5 to 2 million a year and give her a 3 year contract.
If the Fever can… - Sign Stephanie White - Re-sign Kelsey Mitchell - Move Nalyssa Smith in a side and trade for Satou Sabally Then this will be a dream offseason for the Fever. #RoadToTheChip 🏆
Nothing against Sides but she wasn't good enough. Besides the chemistry building she didn't show to be a good coach. Threw the players under the bus, terrible decisions in game, bad defensive schemes. This wants to win now, so they need the best they can get
Sides was never head coach material. Not high school, not college and certainly not for the W. Poor BB IQ along with twenty year old playing strategy was never enough. Never - no room for speculation or wishful thinking.
Yes finally, I still remember what she was saying during the beginning of the season. How she sat CC when could of had her first TD. And the entire first half of the season playing Erica Wheeler as point guard for 23 minutes a game for the first half of the season. Imagine how CC would have obliviated all the records had she had a real coach her first season.
@@TLC1979 Lol, that’s facts prove it, the offense never ran through Reese and she barely got touches besides getting the rebound. The entire offense ran through Clark to get her stats and awards instead of winning, that’s a fact.
