You don't have to cry to ruin your performance. Just getting emotional can screw your breathing control for a tiny second and that's just enough for you to make a mistake in the excat moment. That makes her even more impressive.
Cause shes focused on her voice. As a singer shes aware subconsciously of the song, but her singing has so many techniques constantly that made you sing it all subsconsciostly emotionally but your focus is on the voice and sound.
If you compare it to the studio version, you’ll hear small differences which indicate this was a live performance... the fact that she was able to sound almost identical to the recorded version, says how AMAZING her voice is.
How about being both on the same level ... what is wrong with that? I can can add another two from US: Celine Dion and Ariana Grande... how about another two from Romania: Paula Seling and Andra... how about a little girl from Norway called Angelina Jordan... why every thing needs to be a competition for some people?
The first time I heard this song I was lifting weights in a public gym. I had to go into the shower area so people wouldn't see me crying. I was in my 60s at the time. This woman really gets to me the way she sings.

apart from this, she also made a mistake during the second chorus, the studio version says 'there's nothing I would'nt do to have just one more chance' while here she repeats 'to hear your voice again' like in the first chorus, and also the bridge is completely different from the studio version so it's DEFINITELY live.
What a strong voice she has !!! It's rather difficult to sing when you are sitting but to sing such a long song is much more difficult. And Christina did it perfectly. Bravo!!!
It was technically as close to perfection as possible. To me, she just didn’t have the deep passion and emotion in her this time around. Maybe because she was sitting, with her legs overextended, she might not have been able to go as deep? This song takes some strong grounding to do it justice.
Definitely she's NOT lip syncing - if you've ever heard this song you can hear the difference in her perfect voice. Thinking that somebody's lip syncing is the biggest compliment for an artist. She's amazing ❤️

For all of those saying she's lip syncing - I believe what I'm about to say is going to change your thoughts. If you listen to the part on 2:34 to 2:39 you can hear she messed up her lines. She sang "[...] To hear you voice again [...]" instead "[...]To have just one more chance[..,]". And this was recorded a long time ago, 2006, cameras were not great and that is probably the answer for why her lips don't match her mouth. And for those who says it's lip synced because this song is hard to sing - this is Christina Aguilera not Selena Gomez, please.
Also, she performed this song brilliantly at the MTV VMAs and also at a Christmas Special on TV... both times sung differently, with different runs and altered notes... She didn't seem to have any difficulty performing this song live, so why would she resort to lip syncing here, makes no sense. And like you said she also sang the wrong lyrics in this performance, how would she do that if it wasn't live.. lol

I am from Germany and i watched that show at that time on TV live in my parent's living room. It was absolutly live singing. This was a must in this show. Every, well some very few and poor exceptions, artist had to sing live. The problem here is, that the audio track is not totaly synchronized with the video. maybe a little problem during upload or whatever, i don't know. It's some miliseconds unsynch and so it seems that she is doing lip synch. But trust me, this was live singing. I saw it at that time and i can tell because i am a singer too and i work in TV business :)
Agree with you guys! As time goes by, she has gained the depth of her voice as well as the emotional effect delivered in each song. We all fancy her voice of all time though.

One of the best live performances in history. Period. Whitney's and Jennifer Hudson's Star Spangled Banners are the only performances I can think of that compare. She's so crystal clear and on point.
+Kesha Precious Would be pretty hard to do that. I mean her mouth moves exactly how the "backup track" plays. That's extremely hard to do. If you hear the sound lower, she does hand movements showing she's lowering it. I mean I didn't indepth check the entire video to see if there are mistakes in her mouthing, but from what I've watched she mouthed it perfectly. Normally when someone lip syncs, you can easily tell. Not to mention, that in lip sync performances, you usually make the notes as basic as possible, but if you see this performance, extremely hard to do a full performance like that where you mouth it that perfectly, with the notes it had in there.

I cry every single time I hear this song I still listen to it regularly basically it's a masterpiece this is not lip syncing I'm in music production when you create a video you have to separate the voice from the video and then reput the voice back with the video in production so sometimes it looks like lip syncing but she is not lip syncing it's absolutely a masterpiece among many of hers❤❤❤❤

I have that feeling too. I feel honored to have seen this Performance. No one can touch her Greatness. Not even Whitney Houston or Barbra Streisand. I am very lucky to have also seen this on Live-TV at that time. It seemed to me like a frozen moment in the History of the World.
