I think ppl forget that Christina has really been out of the game for well over a decade. She hasn't toured since 2006, her last 2 albums before Liberation were flops. She probably is EXTREMELY nervous getting back out there and enter a completely different music world than what it was in 2006 when she had her last hit record. I hope her upcoming tour she can get back her confidence cause she's amazing!!!
Noke David Faingaa her career lasted longer than 6 yrs. I said over a decade which is true her last tour was in 2007-2008 which was 10 yrs ago. Then she had her kids and stopped touring which hugely affected her albums (also her lack of promo) so I’m hoping her being back on the road will get her back to the Xtina of 2006 when she was at her best IMO!!
Luxe Honey that’s what I meant and like u I personally really like Bionic and think Lotus has some great songs but doesn’t change the fact that to the GP and her record label she hasn’t had a hit record in over 10 yrs and that will make anyone nervous to get back into the spotlight
And her Liberation tour was a huge success..... Hence they offered her a mega million dollar Las Vegas deal cos liberation tour was that phenomenal. The Queen is Back👑👑👑👑💵💵💵💵💵
I think it´s also because of the microphones, it is very different singing in a small place like a car or a room, than doing it in a big place with a microphone, even if you have ear pieces it can be very difficult.
@@lindsdee9249 her masterclasses are extremely detailed and proves she knows exactly what she's talking about. She has also done performances like lift me up which was done with good technique.
I totally admire Christina's agility, God. It's just crazy how her "messy runs and adlibs" are still way better than most of other singers'. Those are more than I'll ever be able to sing even if there's no audience-You can hate on her technique, but with no hesitation this woman is naturally gifted. Yup, I definitely wish I would've been given a tiny little bit of her talent.
She could just be having an off day too. Like it I haven't drunk enough water my voice doesn't sound as good... If I haven't warmed up enough and jump right into a powerful song my voice sounds strained.. and a million other reasons. Absolute consistency 100% of the time is perfection, and that's impossible lol
Her voice is indeed damaged. You cannot expect to sing like that for almost 2 decades already and have a very young and healthy voice. She still has a voice, God knows why but he is big, but her voice is not the same as it used to be.
Regardless at how damaged or how not damaged Christina’s voice is, it’s safe to say that she still has all of the power in the world left in her voice, she just might get nervous and may not be able to tap in to it. Anytime I sing in front of someone, it’s almost like I forget how to do any vocal runs or really anything fancy. Anytime I try a vocal run when I’m nervous, it typically won’t even go from note to note, it will just slide instead of snapping into the correct pitch like Christina can
to me Xtina always seems to be under pressure because she's aware of everybody's expectation. people compliment her voice all the time. she's like the smart student that every teacher loves and also intimidates her peers.
Honestly, imo, her voice hasn't been the same since she did her master class. She has become much more conscience of both a healthy vocal and her normal style which doesn't work because a lot of what she did in 2008 (CNN Heroes) where she just flat out powered through Beautiful in her own natural ability has lead to this over thought of a healthy belt or vibrato. So, there's just A LOT going on now when she sings in her mind that she didn't seem to worry about back in the day ESPECIALLY with vibrato. People say that vibrato is the sign of healthy technique and that seems to be her focus more so now. Reminds me of when India from The Voice did Hurt with a ton of vibrato and Christina made a comment like "you did things with your voice I can't even do" And Im like "girl, India barely goes into her high register." I always pride Christina on being a vocal savage and a vocalist who went for it. I'm hoping that this tour gives her that confidence again.
I'm a singer and my problem is same with christina, when i practice at home my voice is clean and light but when i stand in the stage my voice gets darker and heavy cause i really nervous.
I got the same. Also because of the adrenaline and liking it so much that I "overdo" it. Making it much less good hahaha... we have to bring that feeling of calmth from home practice with us to stage!
It’s the fact that she still sounds incredible when she’s nervous is what sets a great singer from a good singer. A great singer can mask their nerves; a good singer can’t.
2:33 *you're so wrong for that* 😂😂😂 So basically when she's nervous she tries to compensate by lowering her larynx drastically to have a more "powerful" Sound... She's an incredible singer, I wish she would gain more confidence!
I'm glad you included "I Will Always Love You" as an example. She had been slaying that song for a minute, so I expected a great rendition at the AMAs. But she tensed up. Love her, though. #longtimextinafan
Maybe she cant hear herself right when on stage because its too noisy there. If such is the case, she needs a better monitor earpiece. I cant speak right when in the crowd either because its too loud.
Performing with too many things going on is really difficult. I think she prefers singing acapella and impromptu where there is more freedom and less noise. Not to dull her shine but Whitney's expertise is being confident on stage and there are only a handful of singers who are like that so meaning even if you have the best voice but freak out on stage then you will never showcase you talent as it is. In Christina's case, practice makes perfect. In her first 3 albums, she was always on the road performing so you get used to it like a routine unlike after giving birth, she concentrated on her kids as opposed to still doing shows after shows. Oh well that is life. Family should come first over career eventually since she has a choice.
uff, this hits close to home. I have the exact same problem. It´s a purely mental thing, and before your know it, your whole body is so tensed up it is impossible to sing without force. Suddenly all the years of training go out the window. For me, it was so bad at one point that I felt like I could not sing in front of a crowd anymore. Well, as a result, I stopped singing completely. Christina just goes for it :D I admire her so much.
Thoug I agree in some things I love the throatiness and raspiness in her voice, It makes her sound so different and unique than every other singer out there. For me the FIL on Jimmy Fallon was the best performance of that song!!! But well that's my opinion and I enyoy her more now with this really thick and darker tone she has now!!!
Singing is always best when you’re just singing to sing and not to perform just because you’re more at ease and don’t really think about it. She still sounds incredible, singers have their days too
Somebody really needs to show her this video! I understand sometimes her strains are her artistic choices but she needs to know some basic tricks and knowledges which can really help her. 'Singing from your heart' doesn't always mean letting it all out, I think she should pick up her amazing controls on her vocals instead of straining and shouting. Because her vocal capability has decreased (it happens to every human being) so she has to consider about techniques to prevent her vocals from further damages. I'm not a hater. I'm a HUGE fan of hers and I know her so well, and that's why I'm even more worried about her.
Great video. I said it many times and people get mad at me but I will say it again: you're so right with this video, is all about the tension and all the nervous she gets, when she is relaxed, with few people watching she can hit notes easier. For me it's all about her lack of confidence when she gains a lot of weight, she feels insecure on stage and she messes up. Christina has been singing since she was a little girl, she is so used to sing in front of audiences but her lack of confidence in herself is so obvious the last few years. She CAN sing but she should go to a coach and get her confidence back.
2:34 That was on point lmaoooo. Her E4s on carpool karaoke (in FIL) are perfect but in her other performances, there were already tounge tension because of trying too hard to create bigger sound. She sounds really good on the carpool even with that technique. But I think, she needs to improve her technique even though I know it won't gonna happen. She's going on tour, and she won't survive if she'll do the same shit all over again. She should less abuse her voice
Gray sings i don't think she tenses her tongue to create a bigger sound, just to sound distinctive, and she usually looses that tension after B4, and there starts her throatiness lol
This woman is incredible. Lots of love from Cape TOWN South Africa. 🇿🇦 And her Liberation tour was a huge success..... Hence they offered her a mega million dollar Las Vegas deal cos liberation tour was that phenomenal. The Queen is Back👑👑👑👑💵💵💵💵💵
I really think her problem sometimes,is that she is a perfectionist, and she tends to overthink..and that's when she's not the best. When she just relaxes and has some fun, she's amazing 😍
True tho...I mean if you look at her B2b tour IT WAS SO FUCKING GOOD mentally ( by that I mean she was confident) and that reflected on her vocals which in my opinion B2b era was vocally her best for me at least 😂 great video tho ..I 100% agree
this is also heavily inaccurate considering you’re comparing her singing in a car, with completely different acoustics, with no microphone to magnify her voice, and no backing track or music.
She still has an amazing voice either way and can sing a heck of a lot better than me though. I get what you mean in this video and can hear it as well. I honestly feel kind of bad for her. She is so talented
While I agree that Christina often doesn't sound as good on big shows as she usually does (Whitney Tribute!) - imho you were over-critical of the Jimmy Fallon performance, which was - after carpool - the best performance of FIL :)
One thing I like about her, is that she IS singing live. And even if it's a hot mess, she keeps singing. She's human. And yeah her technique can also contribute to this as well, but at least she can sound decent sometimes. Personally the mistakes really help me know that she's singing live.
Rhi-Rhi Cook: That's very true. She tries too hard to sound bigger with her tounge being pushed back down to her fucking throat which is annoyongly creating that carnivorous or muffled sound.
Even at her worst the tension is not as stressed as on the Whitney tribute; for me that occasion was kinda all-time-low (unfortunately) concerning her technique.
Thanks for the insights... As a fighter, what we can do is to let her know that we are here for her. Let's be honest, after the back to back 'not-so-successful' albums. Shes got so many hate and personal problems too. Which made her stop touring.. So let's be thankful for another album.. it's been a while. And let's stream and support her. 😍 Sending love from the Philippines..💕
I have taken singing lessons for two years and my singing teacher have always put lots of examples of singers who have clean voices as in studio songs as in live performances, also she gave us lots of examples musical effects like vibrato; she told us vibrato is something you have naturally if you always do it or don't have if you have never done it before and if you are starting to use it, it will be hard to make it yours. In Christina's case, she told us she doesn't have vibrato, that's why it's hard for her to make it sound natural, because she have never done it before. My comment is not a hater comment, I'm such a big fan of Christina and she is my main influence as in music as in my personal life, but the vibrato thing, in her case, is a sad fact because with a voice like hers, it would sound very beautiful.
Mmmm sorry but that makes no sense lol vibrato is not something naturally built in our throat, you learn it. She uses vibrato, and usually she always did great, in this era her conception of vibrato is kinda weird (in her recording of Twice her vibrato sounds so forced in some points). She has done it before so she has it, if we wanna follow your teacher's idea 😂
valerio siciliano I never said you are born with vibrato, I said you have it naturally. It's obvious you have to learn how to do it so you can make it sound natural and won't force it. I haven't got the chance to listen to her last record, but I have heard all of her songs and I have seen Stripped Tour and Back To Basics Tour in video and she never did vibrato in any song. My teacher only gave examples of singers who have vibrato and can make it with no problems like Whitney Houston and singers who doesn't have vibrato but they are trying it even though it sounds a little bit forced like Christina or Anastacia. Maybe Christina doesn't have vibrato but she has another vocal abilities that makes her a really awesome singer.
valerio siciliano as I said before, I have heard all of her songs and I never heard a vibrato in any of them. Where I do heard is in the Lift Me Up live performance when the Haiti earthquake took place in 2010, I can surely say that I heard her first vibrato in that video.
La Videoteca De Tarek then i think you didn't pay attention to her singing style, sorry. Listen to her singing Stepping Out With My Baby live, the belt at the end has vibrato, listen to Hurt, "woouuh i'm sooryy FOOR" the last word has vibrato in every hook. Listen to I Love You Porgy, listen to Contigo En La Distancia, omg how can you say she never used vibratooo
I always wondered how she could still sound so good in fragments like the masterclass or the carpool karaoke and screw up so bad live in shows. It's always been like this, I think it's a combination of nervousness and the fact that she feels like she needs to push her voice harder, maybe to be heard live amongst all the instruments and shit. I wish she were more consistent.
Really interesting video but I don't think it's due to nervous. I guess her biggest problem is that she tends to give more that she can when she sings in from of the audience, she used to make that big fat fake tone to sound like a great powerhouse vocalist and impress people because...well, people love that shit. Her biggest technical issues is throatiness which is common in untrained singers like her (she's definitely not the only one singer that is throaty above G#4/A4) but she used to bring to the extreme this problem with unneccesary strain in order to sound more raspy, more "soulful" and more pushed. That's why her voice is very shattered. Her best vocal performances that she did in the studio are the ones where she sings for example "Lift Me Up", "Deserve", "The Right Man", "Hurt", "Oh Mother" where throatiness is still present above G#4/A4 but it's not that big as an issue if you consider all the strain that she has when she tries to outsing the hell out of her. Also songs like "Loving Me 4 Me", Sex for Breakfast", "All I Need", "I Am" are very healthy for her but it seems like she doesn't give a fuck of the way her voice should work in order to preserve her instrument. Eventually she's a pretty exaggerated singer, that's her fucking problem.
Throatiness is basically tension of the muscles on the throat i guess lol that's what i meant. Mentally, those muscles get more tense if she is underpressure
Throatiness is tension that is due to the fact that the throat is closed and consequently the singer sounds throaty. It's an issue that singers used to have when they go outside the middle range, wheter they sing high or low, it's something that happens when singers have practically no idea how to place their voices in order to support their vocals and prevent the strain. The point is that Christina is consistently throaty above G#4/A4 even when she is mentally and physically relaxed (except for the vocal tracts) and that's "ok" if you consider that she has no discipline at all from a technical standpoint. The unnecessary strain comes from her bad habits that she is used to have when she sings in from of the audience because she almost always wanna outsing everything that comes out from her mouth, ending up ruin her own vocal performances.
Untrained? Xtina was in the musical business before she was even 10... she’s been trained by some of the best in the world for years and years... most of the “strain” is due to stylistic choices as you said, not due to lack of training
It's a fact that she is untrained and she even wants to remain untrained. She's throaty even when she doesn't add unnecessary strain for stylistic choices, which proves that she's untrained.
nunca! as melhores performances dela são have marry natal na disney, climb every montanha, its man world, bautiful in bbc AND THE PROBLEM OF HER IS REALLY NERVOUS, FOR IN THE NATIONAL HYMNY SHE FORGOTS UNTIL THE LETTER
That was just her, she is a beast when she performs on stage over thousands of people, she is different to other artist. She is confident and beautiful.. There is no way that it is because of nervousness, it is because of her anger, being aggresive and strong on stage and of course being a fighter..
Hi critics. Xtina is a millionaire and millions had patronize her music . Hall of fame star, gramny winner and the voice of her generation. Honestly, who cares about her techniques. Let her live
I assume Xtina pops on RU-vid from time to time. Her confidence on stage could be lowered because of things like this? I get your concept, but it’s still unnecessary. Just let the woman sing 🤷🏻♂️
Daniel Newman Manage? She doesn't even do her social media herself, it's usually other people posting for or with her. Anyway she's not the kind of person to read what people think of her.
It is sad that people are so critical when she sings better than Any of them. Not talking about this comment or the person who posted this video- they were great and trying to stand up for her... just talking about commentators that hate just to hate
I love her so much as she even can sing higher notes than the expected one. I think, she always needs to be exposed in more audiences like having many concerts. Having a talk show is also an option of gaining confidence or handling music classes may also helps. Despite of this video, she is great just like Celine and Whitney who can sing higher notes most of the time.
