I know Stephen is supposed to be a sort of lone-wolf character but dang it Marvel, can’t he just be happy for once?! Love your edit. To me at least it shows that he was never evil, just extremely devout.
What came to mind recently is that Strange is the epitome of selfishness, arrogance and also stubbornness. It is possible to be devoted to something very self-destructive. Subbornness can easily be mistaken for devotion because that is how we come to blind ourselves to the fact that we don't want to let go of something. Here that's Christine for Strange. He did persevere in error and ended up in hell because of his unwillingness to move on. That also happened to me, to feel so desperately that I was right, yet to fail nonetheless..because I wasn't.
Just like this edit, Benedict's voice acting was incredible in this episode. From his screams of grief and pain to his 'evil' side and when he finally comes to his senses that he can't save Christine and doomed his universe. The 'no, no, no, no, no' followed by his apologies to nothing broke me.
Oh god for real man. I've watched this episode 20 times already and still get goosebumps when Steven keeps apologizing in the end. And the cracks in the voice.

You know what I love, a single scene from when he kept trying to turn back time a save Christine. It was less than 15 seconds(I think), but it’s where he doesn’t even go on the date. It shows that for all his flaws, he was willing to give her up and have her hate him if it meant she lived, and if she hadn’t have died, he would’ve probably stuck with that timeline
This episode teared me apart. Benedict Cumberbatch has such a soothing voice, I thought I wouldn't cry because I didn't see actual faces of actors, but man all it took were those cries of "NO NO NO!!!". I cried like a baby. I'd literally pass away crying if I saw Benedict Cumberbatch's tears during this no joke
I haven’t seen this episode before, but . . . MY GOODNESS! Just from watching your video, I REALLY think that this should have been Doctor Strange’s origin story. It would have been so much better than wasting Christine’s character and having forgettable villains. (Also, maybe this is just me, but the whole idea of Stephen trying to reverse time and bring back Christine sounds really similar to the 2002 movie adaption of H. G. Wells’ The Time Machine.)
so. the 'no---!!' that stephen lets out around 2:05 is so good!! it gives me chills & i'm glad you edited it so that it was just him, raw, you can hear it better here than you could in the episode proper ( i think the bgk music was too high in that part of the episode personally )!! i love it because you can hear how much benedict put into that one singular scream : heartbreak, grief, rage, guilt, it's the sound of a man on the brink and being forcibly shoved over that edge again and again into a bottomless abyss. amazing edit! love the song choice!! keep up the fantastic work!!

This episode took Stephen Strange from my least favourite Marvel character to one I deeply empathize with. You have captured the loss, the desperation, the NEED to save the woman he loves perfectly. A brilliant edit, I can't imagine this song being used in a better way 👌🏻
@@mayaxyz23 because his use in the novels and.. even in his use within the MCU has been the classic method of utilising Magic.. In the situation of writing an incredible problem.. rather than creating a well written solution the matters are resolved because "magically" there just happens to be a spell that can resolve it. Pair that with a character where in the main storyline they're simply driven to be "the best" and, yes.. I dislike the classic strange INTENSELY.

In retrospect, this universes Strange of Christine dying was his canon event. He was given many alternatives for her death, which resulted in the end of his universe

All of the episodes of What If were really good but this episode by far was the best and definitely my favorite. I noticed when I watched the teaser for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that there's a part of this episode in the movie because I saw Strange Supreme.
