A huge delay this year! I knowww!!! I was so occupied with the Christmas village project but Thank God I managed it before Christmas 😉🎄
-For this project I used two 10" cakes. Height of the cake before the triangle was cut was roughly above 4".
-My sponge cake recipe • Classic Victoria Spong...
-Cut out the windows acc to the size you prefer. Both my bottom windows were slightly bigger than the one on the top.
-The straws have to be passed through and then cleaned using a skewer or a straw brush whatever is handy. There are 2 straws on the side bottom window. One end comes out behind the cake and the other straw's end comes out at the front door half circle window. Slow down the video if you need to watch again.
- There are dowels inserted at the bottom of the cake to support the traingle piece above. Unfortunately my phone died while recording.
- Colours used for this cake are Red with a hint of brown and black, very dark grey, medium grey, lightly grey, holly green.
-The fairy lights are copper wires which make it easily bendable. I used a string of 20 lights. Both the windows on the bottom had 2 lights stick out and the rest of the windows including the doors had one bulb showing.
- To make the bricks I had to do this by hand as the brick embosser that I had was too big according to the size proportion of the door. The small white piece you see me press in is a cut out from a card.
-I used gelatine sheets for the windows if they're not easily available where you are use baking/parchment paper. I avoided using glue while sticking these on as I wasn't sure how it would react to it as it was my first time working with them (I usually use gelatine powder) also I was out of edible glue and postal service these days during the season is a nightmare 🙄
-The window panes are made with all gum paste to stay firm and glued with royal icing.
- The Christmas tree in the window was stuck with royal icing and since there was the support of the window at the bottom it shouldn't fall off.
- When sticking in the railing for the stairs and the balcony glue only the bottom sticks first and leave to dry. Don't glue the handle unless you're sure they're completely firm.
- The lamp posts are optional. You may also just make it out of gum paste. These are available on amazon or eBay. You can look it up as model street light. The positive have to be separated from negative and are to be connected with the battery terminal. For extra support with the lamps I inserted a piece of florist wire into them and stuck on with royal icing.
-I wanted the roof to be slightly higher so I decided to add a bit more pieces of fondant. I feel it would be wiser to add the decorative garlands to the house before the roof goes on as it was an absolute pain 😖
- To cover the fairy lights at the back I used light grey fondant made to look like pipe lines on the house. If you have any other better alternatives to conceal this you may share it with me ☺️
- The cobble stones have been shaded using black dust by my 10 yo son. ( He wants credit 😜)
- Tutorial for the tree is here • Winter tree tutorial f...
- If fine desiccated coconut is not available you can buy what is there and grind/pulse only for a few seconds until you have a powder. The other alternative is icing sugar but it may leave dust marks.
- The little patio chair and table set (not edible) are from Lemax. We are Christmas village collectors. You may have already noticed bits of the village peeking on the background.
I hope I have covered all the questions. If I've missed anything please leave it in the comments below.
