About the infinite dream thing, Will was right that it'd be like torture. Joy and happiness is governed by the four happy chemicals. Our body takes time to regenerate the happy chemicals and every time we make use of these chemicals, we experience an emotional low, called a 'crash'. If you keep using them up really fast, you will run out of them and will have to wait for your body to regenerate them plus our brain functions way faster in the dream state (each dream last for about 5-20 minutes even though it feels way longer) so you're gonna have to wait for really really long time before you could abuse your happy chemicals again. So, if you experience really high highs, you're gonna have to experience really low lows after that ,while you wait for happy juices. Even if your brain can live an infinity without deteriorating, you'll still have to live day by day, following the usual cycles of the body.

The fact that it's so difficult to mobilize for a common goal is absolutely by design. The same people who insist that there's no place for revolutions in so-called "civilized society" are the same people who stand to gain the most from maintaining the status quo. A populace that is unable to maybe not settle its own differences, but at least reconcile them for long enough to unite and overcome a common adversary is ideal for a government that seeks above all else to impose its will regardless of what a majority of that populace my see as just and warranted.
