You will see the holiday lights while you are led through this historic neighborhood, learning about the Papa Noel story, traditional catholic creole Christmas observations, and Christmas bonfires.
Andrew explains some of the unique Christmas traditions celebrated in New Orleans and in Louisiana, such as Revillion Dinners, bonfires, and the appearance of Krampus.
You will also hear a few non-Christmas related stories, learn about the distinct French Quarter architecture, the many traditions of the area, as well as its general history.

Very kool! Thank you for doing this tour with and for us. I live in Mobile and we used to skirrrrt to Nola more times than not... but times have clearly changed. We came for VoodooFest the year the Beastie Boys came and we stayed in an old orphanage on Magazine Street. I remember we were close to the water from it. But still to this day i can not find it.. We stayed in the George Washington room. Their were 12 of us and they had rented a limo and just awesome times we lived and are living in.🔆♻️🔆♻️🔆 😍 State Palace Theater thooooo haha ❤🇺🇸❤🇺🇸❤

Might have been St. Vincent’s? Lower Garden District, near the river, former orphanage, although I don’t know he name of any of their rooms. It’s under redevelopment right now, don’t know yet what it’s gonna be - so a new place to stay in new times? Thanks for the story - happy to help wake up some happy memories!

You know about Crampus! 19:40 Ok Andrew, your knowledge of German culture is over the top. Frohe Weihnachten translates to happy holy nights, referring to the 12 days and nights of Christmas.

When I was growing up in LA, everyone told me the bonfires along the river on Christmas Eve were for people to warm up on their way to midnight Mass and back. Not sure if that's accurate, just what I was told.

You just spoke of the Acadians who came to LA as being German. My understanding was that the Acadians were originally French Huguenots who were Protestants that were driven out of France. So where the original French inhabitants of LA were Catholic, the Acadians were Protestant.
@FreeToursbyFootHQ
@FreeToursbyFootHQ 2 года назад
Hi Sherrie. This video would have benefitted from a fuller explanation of Cajun origins; the German element is one of the major cultural influences on German culture, but it happens in Louisiana, after the Acadians have already arrived here.
