Christmas Nights was one of the best demos ever, a shame the special features were not brought over to the remake , Playing as Sonic and Releea was really cool
Wow, in almost 30 years of being a Sonic fan I never even heard of the Sonic mode in this. I've learned more about Sega and its obscure rarities from this channel in the past year than I ever thought I would! Thanks for the great content and insight.
More than a demo disc, a true gift ! With secrets, unlockables, gallery and game modes. Nowadays this would be a DLC or pre-order bonus ... That makes me nostalgic. I feel like the video game industry fell very low during the last decades
I know what you mean when it comes to "Christmas nights" and memories of fun childhood!👌 I actually got to play test the original "nights" over up at Sega of America in Redwood City, California. I managed to get a copy of the American sampler disc CD for "Christmas nights" at a used been at my local "Blockbuster" Awesome little game.. I miss having it.. Happy holidays, everyone!🙏✋✌
I was so happy when I got this game for Christmas back in the day! Nothing but warm happy feelings when thinking back to those days. The music also made an impact (silly as it was, I liked it), I remember adding it as a MIDI file on my "polyphonic" cellphone... yeah, thanks for this!
I literally bought the magazine for this demo just because it was mentioned in like GameFan or something. So worth it! It was the first time I had seen custom content based on date and it was so fun as a kid!
You'd think this would be the greatest freebee ever given away by a magazine. And for any other platform it would be, however in the UK the Official Sega Saturn magazine gave away the 1st full disc of Panzer Dragoon Saga.
I still remember the shock upon seeing the mag in a store and that 'Disc one, play it now!' headline on the cover. Good lord did I beg my mum to buy it right there and then. Thankfully she did, and that game (full version) became the best game I ever played, and still is. I'm replaying it right now actually! The art and heavy use of VDP2 really helps it to hold up visually to this day, aside from sketchy 3D in Zoah.
If I recall there's one more time specific mode on Christmas NiGHTS, if you set the clock to 50 or 100 years in the future, there's a Nuclear Winter NiGHTS mode.
This demo was actually my first introduction to Nights and I probably played it more than the main game haha! To this day I still play it every Christmas and it's easily one of my most nostalgic games, especially the acapella version of 'Dreams Dreams' that plays during the beautiful credits. Beautiful game that's more than a demo to me.
I did not know that this version existed nor how it got into a near Milan superstore priced very mildly at the time but I got it right away and fire it regularly on the holiday season for its easter eggs. I have very fond memories of it. Oh and a couple years later, it kept giving stuff, inserting it into my first pc showed a couple themed images
This makes me so nostalgic for those olden days of getting a demo or game and just playing it do death. Sometimes you can just have a little to few games in your library these days.
I did a comparative review of the Saturn and the 360 version running on an Xbox One. I will always love this game. I had this Christmas version of Nights. The coolest demo ever. I got my copy through Next generation magazine.
The remastered Xbox 360 version of NiGHTS is compatible with current Xbox systems and available digitally. It also contains all of the Christmas extras! 🎅🏻🎄🎁
I discovered the NiGHTS series as an adult but these games somehow manage to invoke that magical feeling of freedom and discovery that I used to get as a kid. I swear, Sonic Team struck gold with this game and its demo.
My brother and I received nights into dreams that Xmas 1996, and were soo stoked to play it that we no ideas that Christmas nights even existed lol great video sega lord x
I was an early adopter of the Sega Saturn. I actually bought it the week that it launched. I received this game along with Virtua fighter remix in the mail for free and thought it was the best thing ever.
I swear to God this video hit RIGHT on the spot! I've been saying to myself since 2010 that I'm going to complete Christmas Nights in December but each year the month slips by without powering on my poor Saturn. But this year was the year I told myself "ok, it's been 10 years now, I'm FINALLY going to beat Christmas Nights" and then here you are with a video about this game that I'm finally about to play! 😄
This is one of my childhood games! Still have it as a precious gem in my collection, living in Spain I have the PAL version. I played it for hours especially in Christmas and the OST is soooo special! Thanks Sega Lord for making this video!!!! And it was sooo hard to play with Sonic in the entire level... I think it was the same Sonic of Sonic Jam overworld.
This is still a game I play regularly at Christmas time so many memories! I have the HD xbox 360 version but the saturn one with the analogue pad is the best experience.
Great video! A lot of peeps slept on the Saturn. All of these memories took me back to my childhood. My favorite game on the Saturn (Sonic 3D Blast following behind) with amazing music and I still have it. :D.
Sega really went for it with innovative products during the Saturn era, this wouldn’t have made it past an idea in most other places in re to the original Nights or this promotional product or its implementation. Well done.
One of my favorite Saturn games, I had much more fun with this than the main game. But you do need to have the analog controller, so you can loop the rings easier. Another great video !
...AAAAaaaand here we are, 25 years later, still wishing for a new NiGHTS game, BUT WE JUST HAVE SONIC... But that will be just a dream that not even a shooting star can grant🥲🥲
I truly believe that IF Nights into Dreams was ready for and included as a pack in with the launch of the Saturn, it might have had a much MUCH better start and sold at least twice as many consoles.
damn, i HAD all of this. a NA version Saturn with this demo. then I traveled with my Saturn overseas and left it there. 25 yrs later i asked the person whom i left it with and they said "pfft I don't even you brought that with you until you mentioning it now". i was real sad inside after they told me that. sucks how you don't realize the value of things until waaaay later in life. somewhere out there is my store-bought Saturn with this free demo💔
@Sega Lord X I always wondered what made this special. This is amazing. Thank you so much putting this together. I appreciate it. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving? Take care.
I still have this cd somewhere, it was something special when I was a kid. The shop gave the game as a gift when my parents bought me fighting vipers if i remember correctly. Good old times.
Man, I remember being in EB and seeing this Game Players mag with the Christmas NiGHTS disc in it. Insta-buy. Gaming was much more exciting back in the mid to late 90's.
Sega is sadly no longer the Sega we all loved from back in the day. They're actually a different company now, just with the Sega badge slapped on. The heart and spirit of the true Sega is long dead.
Nights became the mascot for SEGA Saturn. And he is SEGA's newest character. Awesome video! I was blown away by this game when it came out. My friends still laughed at me for buying a Saturn when everyone else got a PS1.
I got my free copy of Christmas Nights when my parents bought me Virtua Cop 2 (with light gun) and Nights: Into Dreams. That was a memorable Christmas morning. 😎🎄 🎁
Still have my copy I got with Next Gen magazine way back when. Sure glad I made the effort to go grab that when I did considering I already owned the regular release.
I LOVED NiGHTS...and I never even knew this existed until today. Holy shit. I am speechless! This is unreal, its like learning there was a Sonic game I had never heard of. WTF
I didn't discover "my fav" demo until long after I bought Nights w/ analog stick. I went to Electronics Boutique and asked if they had any back issue mags available that have this w/ it. They told me SEGA ran out (9 months prior) so they gave me their store copy for FREE. Last Fall I sold my copy on eBay for $45 along with Panzer Dragoon Saga for $650 to some Russian dude.
God, the music of this game is magical. Actual the entire game had this feeling. I remember my dad buying me the £60 pack with the analog controller when it came out. Memories of loading it up on my recently, newly bought Saturn is up there for me with the likes of Sonic & Knuckles, Mario 64, Goldeneye, The Ocarina of Time... memories
There's so much to Christmas NiGHTS that it's definitely too difficult to fit into a video of this length. It's really worth going to nights.fandom.com/wiki/Christmas_NiGHTS_into_Dreams to see what you can do. I bought my Mk. II Saturn second-hand, but it quickly became evident that it had a problem. I was given a Mk. I Saturn along with Christmas NiGHTS as an apology. Amusingly, the first time I played Christmas NiGHTS, I thought the memory game sequence would remain static for subsequent playthroughs... it doesn't, so don't bother. :) A few other things: 1) The number of tries on the Christmas Presents screen is determined by your finishing rank, however if you hit a Reala tile, you lose your remaining tries, no matter how many. 2) You can play Spring Valley backwards as Elliot, where it's not only much easier to get links, but you face Gillwing in reverse. 3) The special credit sequence can't be skipped, but that's a minor point - you can always just play as one child to avoid it, as well. As to the magazine review, it's definitely a taste thing. Some people love it, some people don't. If you don't at least try on one occasion to eke out every second of the timer without reverting to one of the children, I think you're doing yourself and the game a disservice.
Great show brother!!! I had gotten Christmas nights from blockbuster video back in 96 holiday season! It really made one of my best memories of Christmas after I left the military!!! I played it for years!!! Thx for taking us back brother 😊
Just put a new battery in my Saturn just to make sure i have full power and so the clock doesn't fail on me this Christmas. Gonna play nights and Sega Touring Car , with my girlfriend on Christmas night like every year!!
This is the game I loved most and associate most with my Saturn. Obtained with the Christmas edition of UK Sega Saturn Magazine in 1997. What a great freebie! It was utterly magical to play at Xmas time as a 12 year old.
I always thought this game was cool when I was younger but I just could never figure out how to improve. I have no idea how some of you guys managed to get so good. It's a shame, I know this would be something I'd pop in for Christmas. Oh well.
I still have 2 copies of this. One I got from Comet (sadly no longer with us) when I bought Sega world wide soccer from them. The other was a cover disk with Sega Saturn Magazine.
I play this game every christmas! I have the original on my Saturn (twice in fact, one came with a magazine and the other i've got from a friendly videostore owner who often gave me free or cheap Saturn stuff). The last couple of years i play the xbox 360 version because it's prettier and more practical, but i have the feeling that there is something different between the Saturn and Xbox versions storywise. Could be the Mandela effect...
I used to love playing this game when it released. I no longer have my Saturn though. It'd be nice if Sega did a functional remaster for current gen consoles.
I remember here in Spain, Christmas Nights was given for free when buying one Saturn title at Centro Mail (now Game) in the final months of 1996. I don't think there was any other way to obtain it. It came in a cardboard sleeve, same version for all PAL regions. Now it's about 20-30 euros on eBay etc.
Yea, best demo ever. I still have it as well. There should have been a Nights 2, where the little AI minions should change the landscape even more, the more there were.
I bought a saturn when it came out and played night's on christmas day and it was so cool but never finished it but it was one of the coolest games I have ever played. I miss it.
I got my Christmas NiGHTS in the mail along with my Sega Saturn Magazine! I miss having a subscription to gaming magazines and receiving those demo discs.
The gameplay in Christmas nights is improved from regular Nights as well. In Christmas you move faster and the controls respond better. I realized this after playing through it to unlock on the presents, and then immediately switching back to the full game only to feel a little shocked that everything felt sluggish in comparison.
