It looks so picturesque in Glasgow, it’s a shame it was so icy though. The museum looks incredible so it’s now on my list, I have to go. Awesome video Lorna 😊

Another splendid adventure! The Riverside Museum is a must. I’m kicking myself at all that I’ve missed while hurrying past on my way to & from the Highlands.

Have been to Glasgow many times… love the city…but weirdly, as a train and underground nut…I’ve never been on the Glasgow underground!…next time I make it home I have to take a trip back to Glasgow and do all the stations of the underground…. It has to be the easiest “all the underground stations” challenge in the world! Great vid, merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Brilliant video Lorna, I guess those ducks, geese and swans on the frozen canal didn't fancy the idea of ice skating and wanted to go swimming instead lol. And yes the riverside museum in Glasgow, I went there in 2019 when I was in Scotland visiting a friend and I really enjoyed it and would love to go there again. I still need to do the Glasgow subway at some point though.

Thank you for this! The things you do for us always makes me laugh or groan. I don’t know what it costs to move the canal boats to Scotland or to France but at some point it was a little over a thousand pounds. I thought it would be worth it, for a pensioner as I could spend years in England and Wales and then transport up to Scotland for a bit and then cruise around France for another couple of years. But I think it is more than that now and who am I to shrug off a thousand pounds? I am certainly not someone who has money to burn like that, that’s certain but my brain is thinking that I would gain so much by owning a narrowboat and not having a mortgage or rent that money would pile up over time. David did a video on the costs of living on a narrowboat and I need to watch that again. Anyway, I don’t see people doing that, so there is a reason why. It would be cool if you kept your narrowboat on the Forth and Clyde (correct?) but I would have less time to get to it as often if I was still working. I come from the wild Wild West (US) and did not hesitate to travel 4 hours to go to a barbecue or pick up a friend or family at the bigger airport but I am older now and avoid a 45 minute drive into town to check my mailbox. Clearly things change over time and my stamina is not the least of the changes. Don’t mind me and thanks for a great video! P.S. For about £20 you can pick up a pair of crampons that are spikes on springs similar to the plate holders to hang a plate on a wall. These will fit in a cloth bag that you can carry in your pocket and they stretch over the bottoms of your boots or shoes and they grip the ice when you walk. But I have never had trouble on the ice in boots like yours so something is different. ::::shrug:::: I don’t know.

Well, that was an "interesting" line to start a video off with. 😲 Cheeky! 😜 Seriously tho, I wouldn't even attempt to walk on that ice, us Aussies don't do well on a surface such as that and I would have bailed long before. Markets are the best, I used to run one here with some 500 vendors. English and Euro ones are simply splendid, I can wander for hours in a big one. that's a beautiful part of Scotland, it looks like a great holiday.

Loved your tour. When my wife and I visited Scotland many years ago, our time constraints prohibited us from getting to Glasgow. As a youth I had a penpal from there, but we lost track quite a few years ago. Richard Dewar was his name. Anyway, since David has sold his boat, I’ve been following your adventures and really love them. I wish you a very happy and safe new year! Looking forward to more LJ videos! Cheers!

One wee edit…here in Scotland all locks must be operated by a lock keeper…. That’s true on the Caledonian canal. Sounds the same on the forth & Clyde (my boat is too big) But the Crinan is definitely manual and diy! 😂

Lorna, another fantastic film from you, love it! It´s interesting to see the Scottish canals too and my dream would have been to start a firm in England or Scotland with trailers that would travel between the two networks of canals at a good price, I guess there would be equal opportunities to get customers wishing to get to know "the other system".

Thistle’s away changing room has a flooding issue because of the canal. There is a false floor, water gathers under it and then they pump it out. Boats were built further up the F&C at Kirkintilloch. They were sometimes too long for the locks so the prow was fitted down by the river. There was a ship yard across from Thistle but there is very little left of it. Much of the Monkland canal is missing now as it’s under the M8 from Easterhouse to the wharf not far from where you started on the F&C city branch. They just built a new bridge at Stockingfield. Try the University Cafe next time.
