I was always told that the crook on the candy cane is to represent the Shepard’s hook and also if you turn the candy cane upside down it becomes a J for Jesus.
Lived all my life in New England. Attaching mittens cord has always been practical. We can even buy cords with clips at the ends to make changing out mittens very easy. Can’t imagine mittens without their cords.
Gosh! I was feeling down tonight, but then I watched your video with the ADORABLE Christmas quilts! They made me so happy! I really liked all of the fabrics, and the (non-Christmas) cat-print fabric, with the paw-print border and sashing!! You are correct about the shape of the candy cane--a Shepherd's crook, and, upside down, it is a 'J', for Jesus! Also, the red represents His blood, and the white represents His purity! Thank you so much for the fun video! 💖🤗
I wish I still had my mom to enjoy Christmas and its decor. You always seem to have fun interacting with each other. Loved the Baubles quilt. And one day I would love to have seasonal quilts for my bed. It feels like it would be so cozy.
My mother used to crochet a chain of yarn and attach the mittens together. The chain went through th sleeves. I turn 70 on Saturday, so it’s been around for awhile. 😉
I am 65 and we had to crocheted strings too. Most schools and daycares no longer allow them because they have decided they are a safety hazard. Even as a teenager, I had them. Really handy when cheering at a hockey game, you don't lose your mitts when you take them to clap. I live in Canada so we wear mitts for many months.
Oh my goodness the four patches look like presents. I think the chineal y'all make would look so cute made into bows where the four patch comes together in the center.🎀
I am absolutely swooning over all these gorgeous fabrics. Usually I think they are all gorgeous but 1 or 2 collections really stand out to me. Holy moly! These are all calling my name!!! I don’t know how to choise!
The candy cane is a shepherd's crook. All these fabrics are gorgeous. I was going to ask if you ever make quilts for one another as gifts. It sounds like Fran may be planning a few.
The Winter Pair Kit made me think of when I was a child living in Washington. Mom would clip our mittens to our coat sleeves. The mittens with the string are a little tricky to put on. You put one mitten in a sleeve and the string would be in the coat and the mittens would stay in the coat, in theory anyway.😄
I just made the Lickety Split pattern with two directional fabrics. At first I couldn't believe they would work, but I took your word for it and forged ahead. All was good, and it's a fun pattern. I have most of your books.
I love watching your videos you guys are so fun and creative. Can’t wait to make some fun Christmas quilts. You were talking about making Christmas quilts for your bed. That’s a goal of mine is to make quilts for my bed for the holidays and for summer, spring, fall and winter. Your quilt ideas will make it fun and easy!!! Thank you guys!
I’m thinking that the Winter Pair kit would be stunning in the crossroads pattern. The pinwheel plus one and engagement patterns would be nice as well. One of the great things about 3 yard quilts!!
A candy maker wanted to do something for Christmas. So he made a candy cane. It was a J for Jesus. The red was for the blood he spilled and the white was for righteousness.
I like your 3 yard quilts. I’m a beginner and find sometimes your directions aren’t detailed enough. It would be nice if you would show more details. Especially the sashing. How about a beginner quilter pattern book?
Hi Martha! They are similar in design, however Brick Street is a little wider when finished and features bigger blocks than Sew Fast. Brick Street also uses the #2 fabric for the sashing, in contrast Sew Fast uses the #3 fabric.
Hi! Yes, our book includes all the instructions needed to make the baubles quilt, including how we go about shaping our bauble. It also includes instructions on how to make a twin or queen/king size!
Hi Delores, the only pattern we currently have that features an hour glass type shape is our "Spools" pattern. You can find it here and maybe it's something that you could use? - www.fabriccafe.com/Spools-Downloadable-3-Yard-Quilt-Pattern-p/091621e.htm
The candy cane symbolizes the shepherds cane and the red represents the blood shed by Christ to provide salvation for man. the white is for the sinless person of Jesus and our soul after we ask for forgiveness and cleansing of our soul.
