Yea, it was a huge deal in those days. In my family, we usually could go in, but rarely every get anything. I think only a handful of times did we ACTUALLY get something, and that was a Nintendo in like 1989 or 1990. And my father was fuming because of it. Not that my and my siblings like a LOT of toys. But we were crazy about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures. But they used to tell us that they were expensive. But looking back, those things were like $5 or $6 a piece lol.

It's the first thing I always notice in these videos, you don't need to be in a suit and tie, but clean, decently kept clothing in public gave a feeling of self respect, which was contagious. To this day I won't go out in public without a collared shirt.

This is weird because this is one of my recommendations but I never looked this up and told anyone but I have a good memory and when I was 5 in this year my mom and her friend and my sisters went to toys r us right before christmas without me or my dad we stayed home. I dont think my did felt left out but i did and i was wondering why i couldnt go. My mom wasnt always so nice to me and would spoil my sisters but i found out later she felt like her parents were doing that to her over her brothers and that was her way of getting revenge. 😐

When I worked at Target I would turn my light to flashing on the register and a Team Lead would just come over. At Meijer, they dial phone numbers. No need to page overhead as a cashier LMAO.

This was common in retail stores before the year 2000 or so. Once they got walkie talkies and cell phones, the PA system was utilized much less often.

Plus I'm sure there were a ton of people shopping for Christmas, which was apparently "right around the corner"

I am an 80s kid. The entire 80s was on such another level. That was the most special era, and nothing, not even the 90's, can compare. I think that is why so many people relate to Stranger Things. The 80s was the best. I feel sorry for the kids today; they will never know how it felt to be an 80s kid. They will never know what REAL music is either. Poor things!😥

I wish I could go back to the '80s as well, but technology is billions of times better now. If I could take my technology with me, then I'd be good to go. Both the '80s and now have their pros and cons. However, I wouldn't give up my MacBook Pro for anything, lol😂. The internet and new tech are how we thrive. I don't use it for toxic reasons; I use it to make money online and for other great things. Unfortunately, most people use it for the wrong reasons. So basically, it's according to how we use it.

you say the internet has ruined us, but it also helped everyone save tons of money when stores like Toys R Us rips people off- you could always find an online store that sells for cheaper. the internet also provides free education on a galactic scale, and gives you instant info that you need, in sometimes dire situations.

Twitter, Farcebook, and especially 4chan are responsible for so many kids being bullied into the corner. People getting accused of something that isn't close to being true, yet these platforms allow it and people's lives get ruined. Things that had the potential to be helpful and fun are now ways for predators to hunt, stalk, or for Social Justice Warriors to do their public lynchings. Back when you had to ☎️📞call📞☎️ someone from your 🏡home🏡 to their 🏠home🏠, or GASP, actually go to their house and KNOCK ON THEIR 🚪DOOR🚪? EEEK! NOOoooooooo! Must have📱🤳smartphones🤳📱, must have 💻tablets💻💻laptops💻! Good grief, it's just ridiculous that we've become people who need a "security blanket" aka our smartphones in order to survive. That is sad!

Back then nobody had cameras. If anything they were probably like WOAH COOL A CAMCORDER. Those things were pretty huge back then. Also you shouldn't be filming people anyway lol unless you're doing something like a documentary like this is kinda. Back then people WANTED to be filmed because cameras were special and barely anyone had them

it's cause people abused it in todays time and pranks and go to far which either intrude or hurt people who just want to shop and go about their lives and due to that it makes people say "I didn't give you permission to film me" and "im going to sue you"... that's why the public who see people who film in the 80s and 90s are more ok with it cause it wasn't for attention, disturbing others, and so forth... but to look back and document their lives in a professional way and do it respectfully.

I used to get excited when in the rare case saw people film. I wanted to be on camera because I knew it was something special.

The early 90`s was ruff, but I do miss it

I was an young adult in the 90s, and certainly remember it as a much better time than now. There was more freedom, and in general people were less stressed and more positive towards the present and the future. Things quickly went downhill after 2001 with the 9/11 event and economic instabilities that followed.

I remember playing the demo of SMW at BJ's in 1992 but my parents wouldn't buy it and we were stuck with the original NES and just two games (Milon's Secret Castle and Tecmo Bowl, which I never touched because I've never been into sports). My mom said it was expensive. Now I have a top-tier gaming desktop running Windows 11 with about 240 SNES games emulated on it.

I got SNES that Christmas in ‘91. SMW was overrated and not very good, but I had a blast with everything else being released for it, especially when I got SMK for my 10th Birthday in 1992. I ended up getting a Genesis in 1993 mainly for Sonic 2 and Mortal Kombat. Still had the SNES.

Thank you for this perspective. As a father whose kids are still kids, I'm dreading this feeling of them being grown. I also miss Toys R Us, and cherish the memories of going there with my mom and brother. Not so much the memories of working there in high school, which was miserable 😅

That's the one we would go to as well. I grew up in Port Orange in the 90's. I live in Dubai now, we have Toys R Us here, but somehow just doesn't seem the same, but they do have some pretty great toys here. Albeit a bit expensive compared to the US.

Yeah I was a high school kid too, and I was so upset in 1991 that the Super Nintendo was so expensive compared to the regular Nintendo. Back in 1985, 1986, Nintendo offered the high priced version with the little robot, two games and light gun. Then they offered several cheaper options, just the gun, or sometimes even the just the console and the Mario game. This how I got my parents to get me the NES. By 1991, they only offered the expensive $200 version, and when I would ask for the SNES my parents would roll their eyes at me and say "You're 16 now kid, get a part time job and buy you're own Super Nintendo!". So I got that part time job, but found myself spending my money on other things, and eventually switched over to Sega anyways. Damn I really wanted that Super Nintendo at age 16 n 1991, mainly because of childhood connections to the original. I eventually went back to Nintendo with the 64.

I went to toys r us constantly as a kid in the early 2000s and the stores looked nothing like they do in this video. All the aisles barely had any product on them and were nowhere near as tall
