Just finished watching this, currently lost for words man, crying real tears kevin bro, this is quite possibly, quite literally, sincerely, the worst possible collection of skits I have ever scene. My eyes are dripping with blood, currently on my way to the emergency room on Christmas Day.
i think producing little shorts like these is a great endeavor considering the reach BH and kevin abstract have. always great to see people with a considerable following support independent filmmaking. there's a lot of real potential in these but there's also a lot of room for improvement. as far as the actual quality of the shorts goes, a couple of them feel like they needed like a few more minutes to wrap up whatever they had going on. scrappy being the best example, it just sort of ends. it's like the interaction he has with the fan is the falling domino but instead of a chain reaction it's just one more domino piece. also one of the funniest concepts, though. and a great, very cynical, LA, dejected, comedic performance from nick. i saw moms is another one of the funniest concepts and despite it just ending like that, it didn't need to do anymore bc it's really a set-up and punchline structure. it's more like a skit than the other ones, i guess. the other one that follows this skit structure is the enzo the magazine short, which i think might be my favorite. also loved (whether intentional or not) that it's kinda shot like a netflix christmas movie. if that one's my favorite then mall santa trials is definitely the runner-up. the script is tight, it wraps up incredibly well with such little time to do so and i think it's got the best performances out of the bunch (hk included). and the best written bit of dialogue, that monologue is so good. "maybe we had to lose aziz to get ride of weinstein and cosby?" is gold. sadly i think a lot of these suffer from a weird editing choice of creating hard audio cuts in pretty much every cut in the entire runtime of the special. i imagine it's a choice but i do not understand it at all. it took me out of it a couple times. but yeah all around very and gladly surprised by the amount of effort put into all of these. please keep producing more because the two directors that are featured throughout got a lot of potential. the dry humor is great and there's a writing style that i can't really describe but it makes this special feel similar all the way through. i honestly would've never guessed neither ian or romil would go into producing short independent comedic shorts on the BH channel, but hey, it's great. some may hate me for saying this but this makes me more curious and interested than any BH efforts would (i've grieved already, it's fine that it's over). on that note, i know the songs featured were posted on soundcloud and i'd listen to some (that elliott smith flip i will never forget lmao) but i think they fit very well and as loosies they're pretty good. some better than others tho. love u ian keep posting this sort of shit
I hope we get a Vol 2. next month despite the band being broken up. Vol. 2 needs to happen so that this doesn't have to be renamed or languish in hell!
@@gabelogan56 there were a few people that noticed the Elliott Smith and Spike Jonze stuff on the chat stream, but Elliott Smith is an old ass artist tbf lmao. Still sucks that he died so young.
