Amazing rendition of Prince's Purple Rain by 17 year old Blues master guitarist Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, live at The Double Decker Festival in Oxford Mississippi on 4/23/16.
This dude is living proof for the need to save the music programs in our elementary and high schools around the country, cuz this dude is phenomenal....I'm a sax player, started in 3rd grade when I was 8yrs old, played all the way thru high school to this day, and not one of the schools I attended as a kid has a music program any longer, and thats just sad....KEEP DOIN YOUR THING BIG MAN, WE GOT YOU, CUZ YOU ARE INCREDIBLE....
Well said. Music also helps kids develop math and language skills, both important life skills. And music can rescue some kids who barely get by academically - maybe they aren't cut out to be engineers or lawyers, but would excel as musicians. So much bullshit in academia today and we're cutting something that means so much to so many people, including those who aren't in music programs but enjoy performances by talented people. Who knows how many people like Christone could have been great but never got the exposure in their formative years? Instead of building self esteem built on nothing, let's continue programs which teach kids actual skills and give them real reasons to have self esteem.
@@stew-tube Budget cuts during the Obama administration led to Florida schools cutting music, vocational and foreign language classes in many schools. The standardized testing system with all of its reward millions available for passing schools led to double reading and math classes for many students to try to boost their skills. I believe it backfired as doubling the math and reading classes led to burnout of the students in those subjects and did little to boost test scores. The school I teach at got music classes back last year after having them removed from the curriculum 10 years ago.
There are many technically talented guitarists out there, but very few can bring out their heart and soul through their instrument. This young man is incredible. I hope he makes it big, but I get the feeling it isn't the reason why he plays guitar. If you ever see him in interviews and continue to watch other performances by this kid, you know music is his passion. I think he will make a great living at playing guitar, but he will also make a great life for himself. Much love, respect and admiration for this young man.
I know what you mean, and I agree -- but I would say he's extremely technical when it comes to tone and tone shaping. He has incredible left hand technique and knows how to get the tones he wants out of his guitar. A lot of great guitarists can't truly master that. As a huge metal fan used to LOTS of shredding we all agree there's more than just speed or ultra clean runs. Left hand technique is where blues lives, and this guy has it down.
The fact is being technical does not naturally touch ones soul. Some possess the magical amounts of technical skills with the best uniqueness of FEEL like "Jimi hendix, David Gilmour, Slash the list go on.
I know that fifty years from now, kids will be discovering Christone "Kingfish" Ingram and trying to play like him, whereas 95% of today's big acts will be long forgotten. Like Buddy Guy, Hendrix, Clapton and the Three Kings, this kid is going to be his generation's musical royalty. Maybe not the top of the sales charts - the mega corporations don't even want songs you'll want to hear five years later - but definitely one of the musicians recognized by other musicians as one of the greats of his generation.
For those who are critical of Kingfish. He is 17 years old and plays with pure emotion and is one of the best young guitarist in the past 20 years. So....if you are critical of his playing, please by all means, upload your version. Please show us your abilities and interpretation of this classic song. We are waiting. Otherwise, have a cup of STFU and go troll somewhere else.
+Donovan Edwards.....most don't know what you are talking about because they hear with their eyes rather than with their ears. That is why music today SUCKS and there aren't any REAL Artist anymore. Back then Artist were creative in thier carft and Musicians actually played their instruments proficiently without the use of AUTO TUNE or some other program/apps that will make any mediocre musicians to sound at least half way decent. Today, its all about how the packaging looks and music is takes the backseat because it can always be sampled in the computer. True Artist/Musicians are hard to come by and Christone Ingram is a blessing.
This is incredible! Lots of hate online, its really sad. Heres my rendition and Tribute to Prince ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JPpc-IahzB4.html
gmlasam That's not entirely true. There are talented modern musicians/artists, very talented ones. The only problem is, 99% of them aren't very popular, so not many people know about them.

Give the Kingfish a few years. Yes he is amazing now with his guitar skills, voice is not to shabby, but he is young. He will be on top of the world one day. He has my respect and love, and i love the blues. This man is gonna change all of that one day. Bless his soul.
This kid /Young Man is amazing I remember a couple of years ago when a couple of videos of his were floating around,so I've watched several videos of his today and he needs his own band to capture his essence.Once he finds that right Band of Gypsys...He's gonna even be better.Go Kingfish..............
This guy is scaring the mess out of me he's the man it's not about how jazzy you can sound but it's all about good runs and this man sure enough got it

Brill only discovered him recently , love the way he’s branching his style of blues , his RNB voice , can hear a hip hop swing in his chord phrasing’s and his guitar mastery well ... unbelievable ! Can’t wait for him to come over te Europe ! Think he’s pioneering a new path for blues . Deadly ! ☘️❤️
incredible!!! did u guys see that pain in thiss!!..legend!! and the end made it even better!! the epic guitar drop like other shit was on his mind!! fuck a hand shake he was above it!!! and his music was legendd!!!
I am not a fan of his vocals on this Prince classic, but he completely owns the guitar work. Incredible heart and soul into his soloing. He shreds like very few guitarists and puts his entire soul into his work. I have collected most of BB King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Prince, Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters and more and I would put Ingram's skills up against them any day. Possibly amping up the energy in his vocal style on Purple Rain would polish it up. Not like Prince's energy but a classy, true blues/soul wail like BB or Muddy Waters. Still collectable and memorable.
