@@jesperburns he was considered for Gandalf. JRR Tolkien wanted Sir Christopher to play Gandalf, he explicitly stated so. However nobody is better for Saruman than Sir Chris
@@respectablebogan3276 Thank you. That's so true. I can't imagine anyone except Ian playing Gandalf, and I can't imagine anyone except Chris playing Saruman. While I'm sure Chris would've been a magnificent Gandalf, I imagine it would pale in comparison to his Saruman.
If I may add with regards to Peter Cushing. When his wife died he would run up and down the flight of stairs in his home with the hope of bringing on a heart attack, he was shattered by his wife's death. Christopher in the hope of helping his best friend invited him out and together would visit cinemas and watch cartoons, Abbott and Costello, etc. It was the cartoons they loved the most and they carried like on children, roaring out loud laughing, imitating the cartoon characters and such. So when he mentioned how much he missed his friend (.. "our idiotic humor.. ) I confess that I teared up. In our short lives we are lucky when we strike up a friendship, but are truly privileged when it ends as Best Friends
Vanessa Buttino Yesh he loved Peter Cushing, Peter was basically broken once his wife died (even half welcoming the news if his diagnosis so he could go to be with his wife) Christopher did his best to keep Peter going in this period and there are various interviews where you can tell he’s really heart broken.
I really like this interview because Christopher Lee is not interrupted unlike today where the bloody journalist keep on interrupting during interviews. She respectfully listen to what Lee responds with
I actually found the opposite. The interviewer interrupted multiple times and gave the impression she was trying to hurry the conversation along, or pre-empt (often wrongly) what Lee was saying.
He's the perfect definition of pure class....Such a resonating and mesmerizing voice even at 75 and still looking lean and fit for that age......world has lost, such a talented actor and a knowledgeable person, on various subjects.......really articulative and crisp talker, none of the vintage or modern day American actors, besides Vincent Price, could stand next to him, in the race to Eminence and peerage.
The last of legendary British actors, amazing actor, had the presence, voice and charm..I first watched him as a child in hammer Dracula movies, what a legend and gent..as a person of Pakistani origin and born in UK, I am extremely grateful that such a fantastic actor played the founder of Pakistan..no one else could have played that role apart from him.
@Feiner Fug You're a bit harsh. But I do fondly remember one specific scene from Jinnah - when he's attacked by an extremist. How did he put it? Oh, it's on imdb: "You are an ignorant fool. I have fought for your mother, your sister, and your children's children to live in dignity. Islam doesn't need fanatics like you, Islam needs men of vision who will build the country. Now grow up, and serve Pakistan!"
Christopher Lee was one of the coolest guys around. Fought Nazi's as a young man, continued playing in the Hammer horror movies because, when he was about to leave for greener pastures, Hammer asked him to stay because, as their star, his leaving would cause people to lose their jobs and so he stayed, spoke something like five different languages. So greatly underrated.
I am crying inside, because I know this interview can never be reproduced today.. Not because he is passed away, but because no one can be as great as him.. Even the interviewer and setting have depth that I don’t see today... :(
I knew a lady who met him at a meal & he was on her table, true story , at the end of the evening, he leant forward to kiss her cheek, she immediately placed her hand & covered her neck 😳 he smiled & said you would not be the first! He was also in the SAS, but never spoke about any stories, what a man he was & that voice 🥰 good looking gentleman 😍
Sir Christopher Frank Carandini Lee - one of the greatest performers of all time. My father became a fan of his when he was a boy in the 1950's, and he's still a fan today. He introduced me to this prolific icon when I was a child in the early 1980's, and I am a lifelong fan.
His voice is... magic. I love the English. I am not a native English speaker but I love English for several reasons. One of them, an important one, is how fantastic it can sound and moreover how differently fantastic it can sound. Irish, Scottish, cockney, idk, posh english XD but also American like southern English... it's great!
Sir Christopher Lee was a master of less is more. Dooku didn't have much screen time but he didn't need it because his expressions and the way he delivered lines were enough to make Dooku interesting. Listen to how regretful he sounds when he apologises to Mace or look at his reactions after Jango gets beheaded or Dooku chops off Anakin's arm.
My heart broke when he said he missed peter Cushing terribly I had the chance to meet sir Christopher Lee and I do miss him terribly RIP big buddy as I would call him 😭😭
@@tomnorton4277 this is my new account but to answer your question there are no words I could use to describe the amazing human being he was everytime we would have tea he would pay for everything even tho I offered to pay I miss him so much RIP to a legend
Please let him talk you keep interrupting.. love you Christopher you're amazing ❤️ I thank you for everything you have done what a great legacy from a real humble gentleman.. I wish I could have met you.. God bless you.. you will always be one of the greatest actors of our generation..❤❤
I did too. He was just one of those certain people that seem like they will always be here. The world seems to be a lot different when those ones pass.
@@dashcroft1892 100%. Spoke 8 languages, intelligence in the RAF (including being a fcking nazi hunter), great actor and still so humble and nice. And that voice. And he was funny. Jeeeezus do you mind spreading some talent around? It's like a super OP character when the rest of us might have a stick or a rock lol
I was really pleasantly surprised when I learned that he had been fighting beside us (Finland) in a Winter War, that we had against Soviet Union, 1939-1940. Thank you sir, posthumously.
There will never be a man like this, I think... the imposing presence, the looks, the stature, the voice, the intelligence, the behaviour of a true gentlemen... he was larger than life. Nobody could play Dracula after him, he has defined the role (as many other roles) and showed the essence of the character. Only he could.
I have not many words to say about this lovely legend of art named Christofer lee but I have a many respect honour to feel friedly from far a mystic deep emocion and pleasure to see him and to listen his heavy" strong epic voice like a profet of God coming from Saruman and dr.Morales .let no missed him , lets pray for this soul ..
this interviewer is totally thirsting for Sir Christopher. I think all of us females become weak in the knees listening to this distinguished gentleman. God rest and bless this great soul.
Lady blondie like an 'angelic' so pretty beautiful "angelic" face, and Christopher Lee image like an Lord ancient Profetic old wise gentleman's ! Respect. Reast in peace sir Christopher Lee 🙏
Its freaking amazing to hear him talk about Sweden and all that he lived thrue one of my all time favorit actors whatever character he played he was amazing 10 out of 10 actor
It's interesting that in Curse of Frankenstein he and Peter Cushing both play villains whereas in most of their Hammer films, Cushing was the hero and Lee was the villain.
His, truly was, the greatest generation. The people from that period in time had so much class, and poise and a deeper sense of adventure, bravery, and honor. I have so much respect for that generation. Its a shame to see how far we've fallen as a society. Men like him and Michael Cain, led such amazing lives and they lived life to its fullest. Reading about them and listening to their interviews and stories is so inspirational.
RIP and thank you Sir Christopher Lee for your participation in defending my country from the communist nightmare that was USSR. I have every bit as much respect for you, and love for your performances in the cinema, as I have for the veterans of my own country. From Scaramanga to Saruman, the quintecential antagonist, much obliged.
"I guess it's never too late. -You've shown that many times throughout your life." It's wonder to watch this interview in hindsight, where he accounts for many anecdotes of his life, writing a book about his long career and wondering what's left for the encore, knowing he's YET to play Saruman, and Count Dooku, for many years to come too. What an encore! He's a wonderful example of living by one's word that it is indeed never late.
Weirdly, presenter Catrina Skepper was born 25 May, Peter Cushing 26 May and Christopher Lee 27 May, a birthday he shared with Vincent Price (all in different years, obviously...)
3:39 I love how he nails the Swenglish accent hahaha. And I find it so amazing that Christopher was fluent in Swedish (among other languages too of course). He's such a perfect role model. Well spoken, charismatic, classy, faithful, industrious, obviously quite intelligent and I'm wondering if I've missed to mention anything else - Which I probably have considering his many accolades. I wish I had gotten the chance to meet him.
I said I wanted to look that good at 75; my girlfriend responded that I don’t look that good now; what do I think is going to happen in the next forty years?
