Tom Wilson plays one of the most underrated villains in film history. He really makes you want to hate his character and because of this, he does a great job.
What do you mean, underrated? Tom was the antagonist in all three films in one of the greatest motion picture trilogies of all time. Underrated isn't a word that applies to anyone in them.
Of course, the same make up team came in to make him look good for this! Take it off and he looks exactly as he did in BTTF, with no differences whats-over. Would I lie?
Tom Wilson's acting throughout the trilogy was solid and I dare say underrated. His interpretation of all 3 characters were on point with Bufford Tannen being my personal favorite. It just wouldn't be the same without him.
And IRL he seems to be such a nice guy! Really blows your mind how he embodies this villain character so well while actually being this jovial, laid-back, unpretentious funny character. People like Gene Hackman etc, they were great villains, because they really played themselves pretty much. They were intense, scary people even off camera. But Wilson, he makes you laugh bigtime. I've seen some of his stand-up here and there, and it's all solid, fun stuff. Whatta guy! :)
todd studley hey...can you just fuck off or something? I get your point. It’s just a really dumb point to make. And clearly you commented because you were looking to stir up shit and be a know it all asshole. It’s just sad because by doing that now we all know the type of loser you really are. You’re insignificant and you wouldn’t dare to talk like this to someone in real life so you come on here trying to stir some shit up because in a fucked up way it makes you feel good about yourself. But honestly it’s all good because once you get off youtube you go back to being the same insignificant little shit that gets his daily fill of human interaction by going online and being an asshole to people who he doesn’t know and will never meet face to face. You’re a joke.
'80sKid; I'd just like to say that I really appreciate that you put the apostrophe before the 8, and not after the 0. So many people get it wrong and type it like this.. *80's* ..but fail to realize that the apostrophe goes before the 8 because typing it like.. *'80s* ..is a shorthand version of "1980s".
Tom (Biff) was perfect in BTF. I don't know if anyone ever thought about firing him, but they never would have gotten anyone better. He's one of the reasons the movies so great. Marty, Doc, Mom, Dad and Biff were all perfect
Never heard about Eric Stoltz till now, but thought right away, on first viewing in theater in 1985 (and on many later viewings) that film no. 1 is a triumph of ensemble acting. Everyone is perfect and they work together perfectly. There is one big flaw in the trilogy as a whole though: Marty McFly's girlfriend is treated as dead weight in film 2; she's parked and left to sleep in an alley near the start, and picked up there near the end. I think no. 2 could've been a lot better if a real part had been written for her. But then 1985 is not 2018, maybe especially in terms of women getting more like their fair due.
@@WonTooForAte9 Bro, he stole the entirety of Back to the Future 3. He was amazing. As a kid I didn't appreciate it. As an adult, who tried to dabble in acting a little bit, I see it completely differently. Each different version of Biff had different mannerisms. It was amazing.
Just wanna say a BIG THANK YOU to all the cast members and people involved with this production for bringing hours of joy, laughter and fun with my family for the past 35 years.
I think it took a lot of guts for Tom Wilson to talk about some of these things. The insecurity of the job, the real fear that they would let him go. He earned even more respect from me for talking about this. I think it was for best that Michael J. Fox was brought into the film and our 3 heroes (Marty, Doc, and Biff) really made that film series! Remember guys -- this year is the 35th anniversary of the original Back to the Future. They already announced a new 4K Blu ray set is being released. If you just want deal with regular Blu ray, that set is already out in 3 editions -- 2 standards sets released a few years apart and a steelbook Blu ray set of all 3 films exclusive to Wal Mart. My guess is the 4K release will probably have all the old extras and hopefully some deleted scenes we might not have seen before. I doubt we'll ever see much of Eric Stolz in any B2F material for legal reasons...
It's awesome that Tom Wilson would share that. It makes him so different than the character he potrayed as this arrogant dude. He just wanted to keep his job.
@@toddsmitts Yep that's right. He was bullied in high school. He drew on his experiences of being bullied to play Biff. In real life, he was a lot more like George Mcfly.
I would still like to see the Eric Stoltz version of BACK TO THE FUTURE. I know MJF was awesome...but I would still like to see it for the cringe factor. Lol.
Michael j fox was the there first choice. They couldn't get him at first so that's why they had Eric but they always wanted Michael j fox. It was possibly easy for them to get rid of Eric because Michael probably was available
Chris Kimmel MJF wasn’t available... conventionally speaking. He was still shooting Family Ties as the BTTF reshoot began. CBS agreed to lend him to Universal and work around their schedule some, but MJF was shooting both at the same time. He’s a fkin legend.
Biff Tannen have always been one of my favorite character on all the Back to The Future movies...What a great actor Tom Wilson is to be able to play that character so freaking well..
*Agreed* although I'm a fan of Doc and Marty. He (also Lea Thompson) played different roles throughout the trilogy. Different mentalities even with the same Biff.
FIVE amazing performances in one movie. You never see that. And of course since BTTF was not a "serious" movie, nobody got a nomination. It would be interesting to watch the 1985 movies that had best actor/actress and supporting actor/actress nominees. I bet most are forgettable.
Actually, the roles of Marty and Lorraine were much more difficult to pull off. Yes, Wilson was incredible. But I would think they could have found another "tough guy" actor. As for MJ Fox, nobody else could have pulled it off. There is something unique about him that gives him what I would think is the highest Q score in Hollywood.
In a movie of great actors he's probably my favorite character because of how well he's acted. You absolutely and immediately hate him, but because of how his character acts, not because the character is annoying or anything off-putting. Only a brilliant actor can make such a character happen.
I met both of them on two different comic cons. Lloyd made a point of shaking everybody's hand after he signed the autograph. Wilson talked to me and answered all my questions. Very nice men.
Absolutely loved the BTTF trilogy. Everyone involved made them the success that they've become. This may sound bad, but I'm glad Eric Stoltz got fired, and Michael J Fox replaced him. Talking of baddies, Christopher Lloyd was also in my favourite film, One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest, where Louise Fletcher played the nasty Nurse Ratchet, but in real life, like Tom Wilson, was an amazing woman, actress and human being.
great actor marred by his voice. there is a movie called blood in blood out where he plays maybe 4 minutes in it and hes a undercover cop. he acts good but his voice sounds like a 20 year old. he should do VA if he haven't done it already
Universal needs to release All of the footage of Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly. Thus far they’ve only provided snippets of footage here and there, but I’m dying to see the Back to the Future that could have been, but never was.
Amazing and shocking to find out one of your favorite movies was such a "hit or miss, almost not" kind of roller coaster ride to production and theaters. The end product is so great you think they just decide, film in a stately manner and rap it up with pats on the back all around. I guess many of our most loved movies are made in such an almost accidental way. To think they could not even get major studios to take an interest at first makes you appreciate the series even more. I cannot imagine anyone else playing either Doc or Biff!
Only in the alternate 1985 would it make sense for anyone else other than Christopher Lloyd and Tom Wilson in those roles, and we all know how wonderful that time period was LOL.
SyriusStar Multimedia But think about it this way: thanks to that one guy being replaced the movie made that many people that happy, memorable, and iconic.
It's so awesome that 1985 Biff, George, and Lorraine and don't look a day older today! Now that these actors actually _are_ middle-aged, I wish someone would make a special edition of Back to the Future where they re-shoot all their 1985 scenes.
That would be hilarious. It's kind of funny that you have to wait until Marty goes back to 1955 to see what the guy who played Biff, really looked like back then.
Both Chris Lloyd and Tom Wilson lent considerable weight to the entire "Back to the Future" series and the studio would've been hard pressed to find a couple of other actors to replace these men. As for Michael J. Fox replacing Eric Stoltz in the lead role of "Marty McFly", I'm sure that would've been a different movie if the studio stuck with Stoltz in the first place.
It worked out for the best. Eric Stoltz stole my heart with, "Uno Dinero" in Fast times at Ridgemont high. There's no way I could watch Eric Stoltz play LANCE in Pulp Fiction if he would have played Marty first. Love both Guys! They're great in their own special way.
I used to hate Tom Wilson as I thought he was like that in real life just after I seen the movie. I found out the man has a big heart, and treats people with love and respect. Made me a big fan.
I think he looks better than he did as Biff in the evil 1985. More like the meek, friendly Biff from the good 1985. The evil 1985 Biff was apparently modeled after Donald Trump, from what I hear. Make of that what you will.
It's so bizarre to see Biff as a genuinely nice person. I'm sad I never got to see any footage of Tom not in-character until now. Seems like a really nice dude!
It’s so weird to see Tom Wilson acting like a normal, sensitive, intelligent human being. He did such a great AND convincing role as Biff he may have typecast himself into a corner...
@@AwhileAgo-n3s When you watch the movie, you can clearly see why they got Fox. He was perfect in the role. When you watch a movie and can't imagine any other actor playing the part, then you know they were the best choice.
@@AwhileAgo-n3s Right, I forgot about that movie, he was very good in it but that's what his entire career was built on. Nothing significant before or after that. And it is just "Mask". "The Mask" was a totally different, and also terrible, movie with Jim Carrey.
3:48 Fun fact. For those of you who don't live in California: When Christopher Lloyd mentions the 'City of Industry' he's not being vague, there actually is a city in California called City of Industry.
For me Tom Wilson was the genius of all those movies. What an incredible actor who was under appreciated. Biff was an amazing character who he made even more so. 👏💯🙏🏻👍
I thought Tom Wilson was a real gem and I’m surprised he wasn’t hammered with offers for other major roles. Maybe he had other priorities, I don’t know. Kudos to casting for Back To The Future. I can’t imagine a better group all around. They were all just perfect.
Tom Wilson is a guy that say’s I hate talking about Back To The Future with the fans and than when someone asks him about his roles and what it was like he immediately gets a huge smile on his face and just tells the stories to his fans passionately and than sings songs and signs autographs for them. Yes he is one of the most standup guys you’ll ever meet. He loved his role as Biff Tannen and everyone on set loved working with him.
I saw part 1 on video and part 2 and 3 in the theatre... Watched the trilogy a couple more times as a kid. I haven't seen it in 20 years and I just watched the whole trilogy the past 3 nights and this is a seemless trilogy that is so layered with so many references and plot points that I didn't catch as a kid. This movie aged very well (even though we never got flying cars or hover boards in 2015 haha). Tom Wilson's acting was absolute genius. I just realized he played 6 characters and nailed them... manager jerk 1985 Biff at the beginning on BTTF, 1955 Biff, docile 1985 Biff at the end of BTTF, 2015 Griff, 2015 old Biff, and 1885 Mad Dog Buford. I'm surprised he hasn't has more roles that I've heard of since then.
