The trick is not to land on those or make them stand out. Victor Wooten said “you can play any note you want, as long as it grooves.”

Hi BG, I use the flattened 5th a lot in ,minor and pentatonic scale licks, I land on and accent it as well, it can add some nasty flavour, depending on where you use it

This is the stuff that sets players like John Petrucci, Synyster Gates, Marty Friedman, and Alex Lifeson above others if you ask me

Very interesting. Have you ever tried using dominant or augmented chords chromatically? For example: you play an open E string but you play a dominant chord starting on the A string chromatically up and down the fretboard. Don't use the 5th note, just the base note, 3rd and 7th intervals. You can get very dissonant chords that you usually only hear in jazz music and it'll always sound kind of right no matter where you land the on the fretboard. The same goes for augmented chords. It's a go to move whenever I land on bum note, I just turn it into a dominant/augmented chord.

Interesting video! I do have a question though - are the chromatic notes literally anything in between the regular scale? In his A Lydian scale, he added C on the low E string. If I added A# instead would that still apply or are there specific notes I should and shouldn't add?

If you're using them like this, as passing tones between notes of the scale, you can use any notes at all. Anywhere in between any two notes, as long as you don't linger on it.

try to play arpeggios, but before every chord tone, you play a chromatic note. dosn't metter if its the one above or below. aslong as you give the actual chord tone the right emphisis. also works with double chromatic notes. Its also a cool way to create some sick bass lines.

@@treyxaviermusic Do commenters like this ever have any useful suggestions? He already said he can't remember the last time he "opened" a new video that pops up, yet here he is commenting on one. Which begs the questions, A. how does he know they aren't interesting anymore is he doesn't click on them?, and B. why is he commenting on videos he supposedly doesn't click on?

So these notes are completely unknown and undetectable, and makes up 27-29% of all music? Noice
