Download Your New Fingering Chart: www.trumpetlessonshq.com/fing...
This video will teach you how to play the chromatic scale on trumpet by learning the 7 positions on trumpet. There are few ways you can think about playing the chromatic scale. If you already know all of your finger positions on trumpet then you can play all of the notes by half-step in succession. If you do not know all of your fingerings then you may play by ear and I show you how to do that by applying the 7 positions common to brass instruments. It's one easy way to learn the notes on trumpet because you are not looking at sheet music. I've also included a trumpet finger chart that you can download. A few more things! Some people are concerned with improving their dexterity and they should be! Practicing the chromatic scale is a great way to do that because with one scale you can address common problem areas which is mainly that third finger! So, I guess, if there was only one exercise to do then this would be the exercise of all exercises. Go ahead and watch the video. Practice with it. Pause it. Rewind it. Play it again. Remember to download your fingering chart if you need it.

@@ChrisDavisTrumpet question i just picked up my horn and it hasent been used in a year and all my valves are oiled good and my middle one right now is going down but delaying i oiled it so many times i cheaked for dents theres no dents i also tried oiling from the bottom cap and turning it upside down but nothing is working mind helping me out sir?
@ChrisDavisTrumpet
@ChrisDavisTrumpet 4 года назад
Amauri Younger when that happens typically the second valve slide is out of line adding pressure to the second valve. This isn’t always visible to the eye although sometimes it is. If you’re able to release that pressure then the valve should lift up. You may need a repairman.

Great video. I learned a lot. I already knew all the notes and fingering from low F# to high F# but I never thought of them as positions. FWIW, I noticed your 3rd valve was sticking a little bit when you were holding the horn in front of the camera going from position 7 to 1.
@ChrisDavisTrumpet
@ChrisDavisTrumpet 4 года назад
Stephen McGrew sorry but I don’t know what FWIW represents. What does that stand for? But, yes, my trumpet is still pretty new and I wasn’t washing the valves as often as a new horn needs to washed. But yeah about the positions.... I was teaching a brass class some years ago when I finally realized the positions were the same on trumpet and trombone. It can be helpful to know that especially if you’re teaching in a classroom situation. Thanks for reaching out!
@stephenmcgrew8868

@@ChrisDavisTrumpet FWIW = For What It's Worth : ) You're video is very helpful. I appreciate being able to look at the finger positions in a different way. With time and practice, it should come natural I suppose. It's like when I learned to type. At first I had to think about where every key is located in order to spell the words. But in time, that went away and my fingers learned where they needed to go without having to think about it. It's probably the same thing with Trumpet. I'm teaching myself Trumpet right now; that's why I'm watching RU-vid videos. I'm using the piano as a guide to the trumpet. Because I know all the major and minor scales on the piano, I made a chart of the piano keys for the full range of the Trumpet and wrote the trumpet fingering for each note on each piano key. So if I want to play a scale, I just look at that chart and I can see the scale and what fingering is necessary. Kind of an easy way to teach myself scales and arpeggios. I've memorized the whole chart, so I don't have to look at it anymore. Soon I'll have to do some sight reading though.

5:04 I'm transferring from the trombone to the trumpet, and I'm just confused why going down the chromatic scale is as simple as 1-7, but going up skips 6 & 7. Is that supposed to happen, if so, why?

Going from G to C skips 6&7 but going for C to G does not. G to C is only 5 half step, but C to G is 7 half steps. Edit: assuming you are going up the scale in both cases
