No matter how sophisticated, in most knifebags knives have to be stored handle-in-pocket. This forces you to take them out by the blade and use protective covers, which is totally counter-intuitive. Why is there hardly any bag where the pockets work as sheaths for your knives?
I'm a 25-30 minute walk from work, dependent on the weather. Bike or bus cuts it down considerably but much like you I enjoy the time alone in my head.
Always working, always hustling, always grinding. In all seriousness, just about a 10 minute drive. I keep having to cut short listening to #theEmulsion podcast on my rather short commute. Keep up the great work brotha!
When I was in the Army I ran to work and it only took about 30 min. Now that I am retired and in school it takes about 30 min to drive to UW-Tacoma. I am thinking about going to the culinary program at Olympic College after I graduate from UWT though and that will only be about a 15 min drive. Thanks for all the vids and things-love your work!
it's about a twenty to thirty minute drive for me, depending on the time i leave the apartment. i work early mornings so i usually get to see the sun rise on the way in. definitely a good start to the day!
Currently not working but my last job took me about 20-30 minutes by car depending on traffic. Loved the commute cause i could blast some music and get pumped up and ready for the chaos thats about to unleash haha
Justin Khanna haha most people say the same thing, but if i dont get my dose of metal/rock i feel like the first couple of hours just doesnt feel right
Nice, Thanks for the info, my problem is that I have a regular Backpack with all my important knives and utensils, when I was working at FL I needed a lot of them to get my Job successfully done. When I travel, I need to take them with me.. Is there or exists a traveling luggage for them? Why do knives Companies haven't done something like it?
It takes me 45 mins right now, where i pretty much just try to sleep or stare at my phone for no reason haha dope video as always, thank you very much :)
20-30min drive each way. I live in Austin but I work just outside of it. Although, I picked up a couple of shifts in the city this week for SxSW and a typical 15min drive turned into 45 to an hour. But hey, I do enjoy those zen, quiet moments to myself and my own thoughts. ✌️
What’s up Chef! Started watching your vids today! Crazy seeing this now lol I was contemplating on getting it buttttt yea definitely purchasing now esp with the discount 😂
I live on a tiny street and 7 miles down the road my job lines up exactly with that street. Our addresses are almost the same lol. But it’s a 10 min drive freaking sweet!
Was really digging my 20 min walk to work at my old place...but alas I am now at a new spot and having to drive 30 min before making a 10 min walk into the resort.
30-40 mins from Queens to the West Village in NYC via train and walking. After dinner shifts, could take 50-90 mins. Gotta love the overnight construction with the MTA...
Justin Khanna Absolutely is. But no matter what anyone says, NYC transit is the best in the nation. Also, side note, I really enjoy your channel bruv. Glad I randomly stumbled upon it. Great insight for up and coming cooks and chefs who are really passionate about food and hospitality. Keep up the great content! Cheers and oui chef.

I would like to add one thing to chrome knife roll topic, for me I use my NorthFace bigshot and the case fits perfectly! I understand about the nyc commute for me this is the best way to keep it low key! FYI, TNF IS HAVING A SALE ON THE BIGSHOT!! Happy hunting culinary brothers and sisters! Bernie....
It takes me 1hr to drive to work. If the snow falls down heavy with winter advisory over here (I’m in upstate.ny) my ride back home can extend to 1 1/2 -2 he commute.
Thanks for making this video Justin! Currently I commute 40 minutes north for the first job and then 1 hour south for the second, both in separate counties. I’ve had my tools in an old pearl drumstick bag for the past 6 years. I’ve been in search for the PERFECT replacement that would help my commute.
I live in Alaska and it takes me about 45 minutes to bike to work but when it’s winter usually takes me about ten minutes because I hitch rides with co-workers. Love the bag and have been on the fence about it. If I don’t win it I’ll be buying it anyways.
i take about an hour to work with the train and walking, but ill probably move in the summer so i can finally bike to the hotel im studying culinary arts at!
It takes me about 80 minutes roughly. I do enjoy the drive though it goes through a series of small towns, and a lot of very nice scenery. I am considering moving out there though because I do enjoy the area and would rather walk to work.
I like the Chrome Knife Bag. It's a 35 minute drive (one way) to the school where I work. 30 minute bike ride to my summer job! I'd consider this roll, and possibly recommend it to my students.
Super dope bag. It takes me 1 hour both ways, 2 bus plus 2 10 minute walks, seems like a lot but just like you I look forward to these moments. People even offered me rides and I’m like much appreciated but I’m good!!! Where can you buy your knifes and stones that you have looked on Amazon and no go? Thanks for all the content.
my commute is anywhere from 8seconds to my other bedroom to my desk, to usually a max of 1 hour is a take the bus up to Green Lake. Good luck to everyone in the giveaway. Much love Justin!
Hey Justin, long time cook here. Love your videos. Will you do a chef apparel video? I’m mostly curious about what you’re footwear preference is. I’ve done Dansko’s, Crocs, Klogs, and finally, Birkenstocks are what I prefer these days
Wow sweet knife bag i just started my internship here at nashville TN, and havent receive my stippen to purchaise utensil so my question is what are the affordable but has quality utensils that i should get?
Hey Justin I am a big fan from germany and i like your style of videos a lot. Because everything that you say sounds so real a you dont want that millions of likes and youtubemoney. I realy get that feeling you are a good chef and just want to give us a nice view into your thinking, your stuff and what you like. I'm in the second year to became a chef and you are for me like a little star to watch up and give me some awesome ideas. Realy big thank you for your Videos. :D Ahh ans the important thing: 15min to work just walking near the free sea. My personal travelbag is a global hardcover knifebag, but it is stuffed with everything and works out realy well for me. Have a good one and it would be great to hear from you ;)
Justin Khanna Thanks for your quick answer and i always think on the way about my work and on the way back home about it. So my main question is how can i be more efficient at work or to so more stuff at the same time. Cause i always struggle when there comes many orders at the same time to bring it in the right order for my position. For example how many fish and did i have to make the salat first because that takes less time. I mean the list dir every chef in the kitchen to pick out the order from the menu that you have to make and look what else is to do and finde the one that takes less and the one that takes more Time. Please share your tips, tricks and experience with me :)
I'm an English guy working in France and it takes me 30 minutes to drive to work; having said that, the scenery couldn't be more beautiful and I wouldn't swap it for a 10 minute subway ride... How much do they charge for international shipping? Just incase...
The 125$ doesn't seem very cheap but the storage/durability sound amazing but it would be great to see a velcro included for your knives. I recently bought a 40€ 5 knife kai bag and the main requisites i had were, nice comfortable handle, strap and a velcro to keep the blades from rocking around. The only down side i see on the Kai is lack of extra storage for the utilities, which could have been added for just 10 extra euros.
Hadn't though of that issue with the velcro... rekon when the time comes im either gonna cut and reattach a new 3M stripe or just completely mod it into individual magnet straps or snap buttons. Thx for the heads up. Keep them coming ;)
this bag is awesome, looking for a knife kit, my old ultimate edge deluxe is about 6 years old and the front is separating from the bag so looking for something else, but i dont want just a knife roll at the same time the briefcase design; sometimes i need to carry other stuff other then my knives and kitchen tools and i wont have room for that, so i guess i am still looking
I was curious myself to why it didn't have a shoulder strap. I went to the Chrome store downtown & the associate confirmed your assumption that it was meant to be stored in a backpack
Justin Khanna Yes Matt d'Avella has his own channel and there is also this channel called TheMinimalist by Ryan and Josh you should give it a try, its very informative.
would this work to put it in a citizen messenger bag? because i would get that even thos its 280 for both them vs a GIMGIGE for 200 and thats a backpack with a knife roll
@@justinkhanna or could i use the chrome with other chrome bags and would any fit(that is made for it) or do you have reccomend for a bag that i dont have to carry a backpack and a case, somthing all in one? if you can give a few suggest that would be great
I moved to Istanbul/Turkey last September to study culinary arts, distance between my home and my work is approx. 40 minutes and 45-50 minutes to my school. (all with public transportation of course) Btw Amazing timing with this video I was just looking for good knife bag alternatives:)
Lucky. It takes me 25 minutes on the bus. Is it possible to get the emulsion podcast on something other that RU-vid? I can't play videos on my way to school
I have the bag and there are pros and cons for me in its use. Pro: there's lots of pockets for all my knives and kitchen tools. The outer fabric is pretty durable and can take a beating when I'm working in my kitchen. Cons: Given the frequency of only a few of my tools, I don't need to store everything in my bag. It's just unnecessary weight. The shoulder strap came undone after a few months & had no choice but to carry by hand which sucked
What up Justin! Big fan of the channel. I just started my entry into the industry back in November. Currently taking a 10 min. drive to a train station where it's an additional 45 to get @JAXLODO!
Even though it's not the job of line cooks to create menus and pair food, do you have any advice for someone as green as me to have a foundation in knowing what pairs well with what ingredients? Subjects like the 5 mother sauces or the expectation of working in a Michelin star restaurant versus other fine dining restaurants that are satisfied with their standard of service. Not sure if I worded that correctly, but just wanted to say thanks again and I appreciate you getting back to me!!
Oustanding! thank you so much Justin, I sincerely appreciate your wisdom and expertise. I appreciate the shoutout and I'll definetly be on your message board keeping you updated on my careers progresion.
Justin Khanna depending on the assignment normally but i get 2 days off a week but sometimes 10 days on 4 days off but assignments last from 6 weeks to 3 months my longest assignment was 8 months
An hour and a half on a good day to get to culinary school. Same thing for work. I need this bag hahaha. I carry a toolbox with me to school and take the knives out and keep them in a small messerstahl knife bag. It'd be nice to get an upgrade.
Justin Khanna i should but college life is expensive especially in Toronto. But it's kinda convenient to have all my equipment in one container. And i get looks from other people on the train which is kinda funny.
