CHROME PAINT: Does Chrome Paint Really Work?

Spaz stixx paint is the way to go...also...once u apply clear over any of these chrome paints...it will automatically turn it silver...u should always start with a high gloss black and let it dry 24 hrs...then u fog the chrome paint on in several coats...then wipe it gently with kleenex just to remove light over spray....no clear...

If you were to heat up the "Chrome" spray cans in some hot water, lay it down just like you did here, then apply a compatible clear (I think the "Chrome" spray cans are Enamel, possibly could use the clear poly from Minwax, had decent results with it and Enamels), I think that you could achieve the same final product.

At least the comments are actually turned on here... I wanted to ask questions about this kind of thing in the other videos covering the subject but the guys are either too afraid of trolls or critics and disabled them. (Lame in my opinion. Anyhow...) But I suppose the main thing I'm wondering in those examples was what's the pre-prep? I think some examples may not be so great because not primed correctly or perhaps the finish is meant to be on a sealed smooth surface rather than porous or semi-porous surface. But it'd be neat to see a current comparison of different brands while also showing a few more variables to see how they work out.

Maybe if you tried buffing it, it would look better but for what it is it does make it look clean

Wow... You guys spent a whole lot of time on a couple little parts. I could have rattle canned them and made them just as good.

I think it looks cool. It dosent look like Chrome. But it has a nice clean metallic look.

The primer needs a smooth as glass finish before you put the black undercoat on, you want to paint onto a wet 800 finish. Then a couple of coats of black base, then wet sand 800 again and then a dust coat of black. Then the chrome, as little as possible until you get the chrome effect. then the lacquer. I didn't see any sanding between coats here. A mirror is just silver on a perfectly flat surface. You want mirror finish chrome paint, then the surface you're putting it on needs to be perfectly flat. I'd bet you if you sprayed that chrome paint onto a piece of glass then went over it with black gloss that you'd get a perfect mirror on the other side. It's all about the prep.

Looks Good. Dosnt look like chrome but I dose look like a new a piece of unpainted metal!!!

My question would be how well will it hold up over time?

You need an almost glossy surface to get the chrome look.

There are some brands better than others but "chrome paint" will always look silver. Even if you achieve a perfect finish it will turn gray like primer after a few days.

It looks like it has a satin finish. Is it just the lighting?

It does look good...but if the criteria is "does it look like chrome?"..then the answer is no, it doesn't. I think it's a fail, even though it looks good. Thanks for your video. Love your channel.

Hmmm... Not too bad at all, but definitely not as shiny as real chrome would be. But I could see using this product on pieces that simply cannot be chromed in the "normal" fashion -- pieces that are soft metal, or plastic, for example.

dunno if this was around 3 years ago but try yourself some of that VHT Plate Finish, that stuff is insane

Sorry, but that looks crap, the silver nitrate type looks better, and yeah that too needs a coat of clear.

It looks like brushed nickle to me. Not really impressed other then if you use it for minor details.
