I agree. Unfortunately many tv comercials use a similar type of background sound (not really music). Why am I responding to this topic? It is not to denegrate Mark's otherwise outstanding presentation. I wanted to express my regret and utter frustration that I wasn't able to listen to his whole presentation. The high volume level of the background noise beginning 20 sconds into the presntation was to me, very annoying and distracting. It was hard to hear what he was saying. There was no reason for the background sound to compete with or dominate his voice. Regrettably I had to stop watching the video. Mark has exceptional speaking skills and seems to be a very good teacher, on screen personality and promoter. It is just my personal opinion that I would have enjoyed listening to his whole presentation if there was minimal or no background sound at all. This very good video is an example of what I am tqlking about. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QxkWS-mkUfE.html A lower background sound level would at least have made it possible for me to comfortably listen to the whole disertation.
So for someone new to the world of Chromebook, this video was very helpful and I love your personality...on behalf of all the non technical population, thank you for the in depth review.
#5: The person who works at home at a job that does not require power functions such as graphics editing.....just basic office tasks like word processing, spreadsheet management, and emailing. That's my situation and my Chromebook Plus is the only computer I have in my home office.
I'm not really sure how you're asking that - pardon my ignorance. You do mean that as a What you see is what you get, right? Are you meaning it like plug and play?
Promevo sorry, it was unclear. As a home business, I have an ipad. And its almost impossible to print. I need a machine that is very laptop like, with out the laptop. Something that i can use in the field, access the database, come home and print invoices...the iPod is not good for this.
Oh, I think you'd enjoy this. They offer cloud printing capabilities so you can print on the go, as well as simple USB plug and play printing as well. I hope this helps!
I've moved onto a mix of Android phone & tablet, Windows 10 tablet & laptop with other OS using virtualisation on Windows 10 and an old Windows XP netbook, I also sometimes use Linux, I've never used a Chromebook, but see that they are more flexible than they used to be.
You are spot on Mark. It really is a beast, especially compared to my last chromebook, the Acer R11(which was a fine device). The ASUS blows it out of the water. Thanks again for the videos, looking forward to watching more of them. You have a subscriber!
I was torn between the samsung and the asus, decided that I wanted the intel processor instead of the ARM processor. didn't want to spend 550 to get the samsung pro. Love the screen on the Samsung. How do you find the performance on the plus?
Got both, myself, and I can also say you're not missing out on much! There are some aspects where I love my C302 more! Both are phenomenal choices though.
@@LUCKO2022 Chrome OS is so much easier to use than Linux. And it supports Android apps out of the box. The average computer user doesn't want to spend their time entering cryptic console commands to be able to do anything on their computer. Linux is for computer geeks to be honest. This is precisely why no mainstream consumer computers are sold with Linux preinstalled.
Hahaha, glad you enjoyed! This originally was part of a Google piece for retail sales people that played in a few special sponsored movie screenings - but I figured the joke played ok on RU-vid too! :D
What does everyone use to edit GoPro video with on their Chromebook? I have a Samsung Chromebook 3. I struggle to find a good application to do this on a Chromebook?
Thanks Vik! Google had asked us to produce this for a retail demonstration - then let us release our own cut with some minor edits (and throw in a few Promevo references) and this is what we got. Would love to do something like this again!
Yesterday, I bought an Acer Chromebook 15 cb3-532-c47c for $200, & some people say it was an OK deal, & others say it was a rip off. It was manufactured September 29, 2018. Please help me. Was I really ripped off? It functions like a tablet, but looks like a laptop.
Mark. I bought the Asus c302 chromebook and at first use I fell in love. But literally the second day I had it it would restart by itself and I would lose my progress on office 365 word app. Speakers would crackle on mute and I bought a USB type c to hdmi adapter and did not work. Also further inspecting it I saw that the left side of the keyboard was risen slightly. I was very disoriented with all these flaws. I had to return it.. really thinking on going back to windows. Please I need your advice. What should I do??
Hey there Einer - it sounds like that was just a bad unit you got there. Truly sorry to hear. Did you try contacting ASUS or the original point of purchase? I would have recommended trying to exchange it for a working model as those sound like flaws in a specific device and aren't indicative of my experience here (I've still got mine in near perfect order). Are you outside of your return period?
@@Promevo hey mark. Thnx for replying so fast. I have returned it already. Waiting for full refund since they said they dont do exchanges. I would have to purchase it again. I still want to buy Asus but leaning towards windows. Do you think I should give the c302 flip another shot?? Or would you recomend something else?
Well, ASUS is about to put out a refresh to the C302 called the C434 - however, I might also direct you towards some of Acer's line too - the Spin 13 is one of the best items on the market right now. That said, if you have specific Windows needs (like certain applications that need to be installed), then that MAY be a better option, of course. Happy to help guide you on the Chrome journey though!
@@Promevo The first one I bought was acer C720, used it for several years until the first of Feb. 2019 I decided to get a refurbished Dell with the corei3....it definitely seams to be faster then my old celerome (I know it's spelled wrong, I tried three times and wasn't close enough for my spell checker to give me the right spelling!!!)
I own a Traditional Gamestore, we do tons of MTG tournaments and boardgames, Warhammer 40k etc. But I want to free up my Stores PC for a Chromebook that would be a dedicated station for Customers to do price checking, and look up decklists etc. I don't want to spend more than $200.00 on it. Which chromebook would you recommend? I am currently looking at the Samsung Chromebook 3, which looks like 187 on Amazon, but I don't know anything about chromebook really. What would you recommend for something with a super long battery life, and that is durable for heavy internet use?
I love this guy, i was really confused about chromebooks, i was thinking like "Do I really need it, or better to buy something in MacOs or Windows" Now i sure that it's good choice for me, thank you!! Like and subscribe!!!
Just sittin around using Linux and Windows. Hears something on the other end of a door. Opens door and sees awesome dude explaining Chrome. I'm interested and ask... "Wow! Chrome sounds so cool!" He replies, "Yeah! It is! :)" I reply, "So, does it have Steam?" "Uhhhhhh..........no?" Shuts door. XD But seriously, I love the video. Thank you for being so informative while providing humor in a quick-witted, yet no so insulting way(that's a talent right there). I have used Chrome. It's not for me, but I installed the Cloudready Chrome OS inside my mother's small, private school to help the teachers with work. They don't have to spend a big budget on new computers, and the service provides great control over all the devices with Chrome OS to be used and save important documents in a safe storage. Chrome is great. Everybody should give it a try. However, I'm a major gamer, editor, and programmer though. So, it's function in my daily life is never that important. I just hope Google will continue to support Chrome OS and provide it continuous updates so one day it will be part of my daily life.
Wow! Thanks so much for the kind words. I really appreciate you having such a balanced approach to writing on the internet - I almost joked "Do you know where you are right now?" Hahaha! As a content creator as well, I too am aware of those limitations of the OS, but use it for pretty much every non-editing thing in my life. I'm with you in hoping they continue that support for a long long time!
@@Promevo Hey. Thank you for the video. I will add as a side note from one programmer to another to check out Pop OS. Unlike Ubuntu or many other Linux based OS(Galium, Elementary, Mint, Peppermint, etc.), Pop OS was designed for beginning developers. However, it is very supportive toward Intel and/or AMD hardware considering you can get the drivers right on download of the Pop OS. After three months, It is very user friendly when using the Chromium Browser. If anybody does not wish to use a Windows OS, then this would be perfect for that individual building or upgrading a PC with an Intel CPU and AMD GPU with larger hardware and wanting to test try Linux and *Gaming* when coming from a Chrome OS without it being too difficult. *Gaming on Steam titles only. Lutirs seemed promising, yet after being around it, it still has many flaws. So, no Epic, Origin, or Blizzard titles for now.*
The thing I hate about it are the ridiculous advertisements. "Switch to Chromebook so you can watch Netflix offline." um... you can do that on literally any device.
I dont think you can get a free chromebook unless its handed down to you from someone in your family or you just getting scammed online by giving some random person your information on where you live and sometimes credit info, please dont trust any site that says they can give you a chromebook for free.
I absolutely love this video great job. Just picked up another Chromebook two weeks ago. The 11.6 Samsung Chromebook 3 (4 gigs of ram 32 gigs of storage) love it.
That's a solid pick up! At first, I read your name as Ron Howard, and I was like 'WOW! Ron Howard watches our RU-vid channel, amazing!' but now that I realize it says 'Royal Howard,' I actually like that a lot better.
Want to know something cool... you can download Pheonix Os on a windows computer and have an even faster experience then a chromebook and your also not limited on what you can download, pheonix os is just an android os.
I'm actually thinking about buying HP Chromebook 14 or Samsung Chromebook DualCore, and now it looks like i have no option :D Great and funny video, made me order my first Chromebook, can't wait for it
Aw thanks so much! I was just sitting in the background reading analytics on our videos and was like "I can't believe this is still getting so much traction two years later." Thanks for the support - hope you love your Chromebook!
My chronebook is slow. I put a FisMeStick into a drive and it has helped. But not completely. This is my first chromebook. SAMSUNG something. I don't know the model. But it is second hand. If it has built in protection, what else can I do?
Well I mean you could just download Pheonix os, if you know what that is, its basically like chrome but limited you 1000 times less and gives you more chooses in the google play store and you can switch back to windows when ever.
which one is best for students? i want one that comes with a pen and has a long battery life and large internal storage and looks good. also i need one where i can record lectures on. i don't like the idea of flipping it 360 because that would mean that the keyboard is not protected. Thank you
The good news is that you don't HAVE to flip it - but only if you want it in that mode. Otherwise, they function identically to any other 'normal' laptop. I've allegedly got a few of the new Acers coming in to review shortly - I'm hearing GREAT things about the new Acer Spin 13 which might suit your needs (though I don't immediately remember the pricepoint)
There's a deal happening right now that's for RU-vid TV - but I'm unsure of what that exactly entails. Always recommend hitting up Chromebook Goodies via Google when you get the device in.
Thank you so much for this video. This not only taught me more about chromebooks but made me more confident in them.(Well,I had to be to purchase one) Anyway, thanks for the info and I gave you a big thumbs up 👍
Thats great yo hear Claire, alot of people seitch to chrome or dont use computers/ windows and mac because they really dont know where to start, chromebooks are like are everyday phone, easy and simple.
The 365 services that are online-based should work no problem - similar to using a Chrome browser on any other device. Otherwise, you've got the options of the Google suite of comparable apps. As far as installing the traditional programs, they are not currently available for the Chrome OS.
My wife bought a $400 laptop with Windows 10S. A week later, she still can't get it to connect to our printer wirelessly. My Samsung Chromebook Pro connected in less than 10 seconds. It was nice.
It was the S version of Windows 10. I got her a free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and restarted the laptop and it now works like a charm. I still like my Samsung Chromebook Pro better. I have a $3,000 desktop for gaming and other such things. It has 32 GB RAM, GTX 1070 SC, Core i7, and Samsung 950 pro 2 TB SSD. i can't complain.
I'm still worried abt how long chromebooks last, though I've bought one already bc my dad wants me to be able to use this for college... and that's abt 3-4 years away, since I'm in junior HS...
Yeah, the lifespam isnt as good because of the thing or what ever that holds the screen and keyboard together breaks somewhat easy, dont know why? But I think A chrome book could last 5 maybe 6 years
I have been using iPad Pro 10.5” with Logitech keyboard and Apple Pencil. I can’t believe that i accomplish more on this device and only very few instances I go to my PC laptop. Now, I am wondering if it is feasible to switch completely to chromebook. At work I use google productivity suites (doc, sheet and slides) but some of the features of MS Office Excel is not there in sheets. But I think there are ways to over come that by subscribing to MS office 365. I am just confused if i should ditch my iPad Pro and go for chromebook
Great video. I am at 75% using Chromebooks. I have a Asus c302, Samsung Chromebook plus and Acer r11. Still have my Google cr48. Just still dependent on windows to a certain point work related. For my personal use is mostly Chromebooks. My next purchase will be a pixelbook sometime next year.
I totally know what you mean Ralph - My team and I still have to use PCs and Macs to create all our content for the RU-vid channel, but have gone Chrome everywhere else!
I still have a windows machine I use too, for the occasional bit of software I just can't seem to get elsewhere, and I suppose for gaming, but that's something I am gradually using my Chromebook more and more for, right along with everything else, because-- Have you thought about trying out a linux distro on your chromebook? Something simple like Ubuntu or Debian, perhaps?
Everything he said I can confirm is true since I am a full on Chromebook user. *the one that has HP on it* I feel like this chromebook is even invincable to viruses such as everytime I hit a link mine says on the bottom left corner "scanning for viruses"
Too bad that virus protection means nothing as you can't download exe files one a chromebook. If you are a full Chromebook user than you must not use a computer very often
Hey Jim! We actually cover the printer support in this video - you have a few options. You can print through Google's Cloud Print service wirelessly or, you can connect via USB to printers to print as well. Emailing docs from Google Drive is really easy. If you just want to share it to others for collaboration, you simply click the share button in the upper right hand corner, give their email address (or if you just want to send a link to more people, click the enable link sharing button) and you're all set. However, if you want to actually export a file, go to the File menu in the document you'd like to export, and click 'download as' - it'll give you options for what kind of file you'd like to create there. Drive also has PDF support, so it can open those PDFs no problem. Hope this helps.
You probably already figured it out, but yes, yes, and yes. Printer needs to be newer, Google Cloud Print. I have 3 Brother printers and a Samsung that are GC and print great.
Unless you do heavy duty editing or need a specific apple or windows app this the absolute best and cheapest way to go . We have a windows laptop that is our second choice when doing anything on the web.
Very informative video. I recently bought the Acer Chromebook 14 (Gold) as I just wanted to use a laptop for basic browsing etc. However, I am using it more and more for producing spreadsheets and presentations. I have been very impressed so far.
It's a solid device for sure! I loved that gold color too, wish we'd get more 'special color' Chromebooks. Is now an appropriate time for me to gush about how much I love 2001: A Space Odyssey? I saw your profile image...
Yo, you cant just say you wanted a labtop just for browsing, how about all those steam games your missing out on and the new games like Apex and etc...
That's the crispiest thing I wanted to hear today! I am so sorry your comment got lost in the shuffle - I wanted to make sure I thanked you for your kind words. Hopefully you enjoy our future content too!!!
I think that with the right stylus and app, they'd be a great solution - however, I've talked for almost a year now about trying to dive deep into the artistic capabilities of the devices, but just haven't been able to make it work out scheduling-wise.
I actually never got one from HP, which is why I didn't have any thoughts on it - i'll have to go track one down and use it, a casual google search turned up some interesting info.
Promevo It's certainly less relevant now, but I still currently use it to run my Android/Chrome Os/Kubuntu Plasma setup, and it works great. There were a few minor issues that the g1 initially had, apart from android not being available, like little performance issues amd stuff. It's since been imporoved a heap of a heck with Ota updates though and I love it. Despite looking like something from the matrix(Early 2000's idea of high-tech), it isn't a hybrid with a touchscreen, so it does feel a bit retro at times. That screen tho...
Questions: What is the durability of the Crome books? I have children who it seems have a mission to break stuff. Can a Crome book withstand the stress of being tossed into a backpack with other actual books and plopped on the floor? I’m talking about student life between 2nd - 12th grade. Would I need to buy added protection for it like I would for a tablet (meaning some kind of case?)
I would recommend a case to be extra safe - HOWEVER, I highly recommend searching for Education model chromebooks as they're often designed for additional durability for exactly the reasons you've mentioned!
zwr9ne0fh8pk4bt635245 I don’t give my kids an allowance. There’s no reason to pay them for doing what their supposed to anyway. They only get rewards based on their grades at school. Better effort, better prize. In this specific case we didn’t buy it. My husband won it at his annual Christmas party. My son uses it to type out book reports and my daughter uses it for her reading programs. Otherwise it’s a nice paperweight. We don’t use it for anything else.
I need a computer to store photos, read and write emails, print from word and open pdfs / turn in work for college. / download job applications online. I don’t use a computer for gaming so do you think this will be suitable for me? I’m rubbish with technology and don’t have an huge budget so am trying to sort the best thing for me. Thanks for your help :)
Amy, this sounds like a pretty perfect solution for someone like yourself. To me, that's the epitome of what the Chromebook does! They're inexpensive platforms to perform most productive tasks.
Amy, you're absolutely welcome. I joked with my coworkers upon reading this that your needs were so perfect for the Chromebook infrastructure that I thought you were a plant! Hahaha! Have a great day. Let me know how I can help you out!
Chromebooks GUI or interface or how it looks when using it is great for parents that are now starting to use Tech and the elderly, seeing alot of the older generations using DS's and playing games, like a farm game or something, looks fun to me.
They're basically bigger and overpriced tablets with a keyboard and touchpad with an OS that runs significantly worse than a normal tablet or a laptop for the same pricepoint. Good video tho.
Dude! I stumbled upon your channel as a suggestion on my RU-vid feed once I opened up the app and with just watching this video, I immediately subscribed and turned on notifications for your channel! You are the second Chromebook enthusiast other than Chrome Unboxed (which I have been following already for months now), that I have seen here on RU-vid! I have had the Chromebook Plus since like around August or so and I love it SO much that I am SO glad that I sold my HP Pavilion x360 (4GB version)! Anywho, I really like your humor and your knowledge! Keep up the great work, man!
Well thank you so much for the kind words. I'm really glad more people are finding us!!! The Plus has been a pretty solid machine for me, keyboard aside, and I'm glad it's gotten so many people using Chromebooks!
If every average user remembered how he used his PC or Laptop, remarkably appearing a pattern - 99% of time we use with Chrome or other browser. Because in our time online services is foundation of tech environment
Gabriel, I truly appreciate the kind words - thank you as well (and the rest of the Chrome Unboxed fam) for inspiring us to get involved in the world of Chrome!!!
I absolutely LOVE my chromebook!!! It is super fast, easy to use, and I love that it constantly stores my information automatically. I would recommend it to everyone.
Yup, had a Chromebook since Nov 2017. Everyone says Chromebooks are bad but they don't even know about how it has Google Play. Google Play is what moved me to Chromebook.
Yeah, I would guess that almost anyone that has a negative connotation of Chromebooks either hasn't used one at all, or at the very least hasn't used one since the addition of Google Play, and so on.
Yeah, but you can’t do any hardcore video editing, program programs, and you share EVERYTHING with the World Wide Web. I’m going to stick with windows. And yes it does have USB C and I have used a chrome book for years. It will never be my daily driver
Yep, we have repeatedly addressed the video editing. What program programs do you find you use? As a content creator, the only thing I use outside of web-based anything is the Adobe Suite...meaning that while I need a separate device to edit, I can literally do everything else on the device. I think I made it pretty clear here that this was about suggesting that this may be usable for you, DEPENDING on your needs. Thanks.
Well, I gave My Wife the thinkpad 11e and I finally received My Lenova ideapad 3 11... I am in Love with it, thought It was refurbished but It was actually brand new... So Happy with it...
What's the limitations on external monitors? That and apps like QuickBooks are what is stopping me from totally converting over. Love the videos and your enthusiasm. To your point I believe these are the future as well.
Thank you so much for the kind words Brent. Currently, you can do 2 external monitors on Chrome - I hear rumors they want to push to support up to 4, but I would definitely consider those unsubstantiated rumors at BEST.
quickbooks.com. Its business accounting software by Intuit and as you may know, accounting in a business can be a make or break to its future. Thanks for the info on the monitors.
Absolutely - this is great information too. I'm going to look into this and see if there's either something on the horizon for you all, oooor if there's a reasonable/comparable app. I promise I won't suggest something terrible without the caveat of 'this might not do what you want but it also might do what you want.'
I use Quickbooks Online with a 29" Lg UltraWide monitor on my Chromebook Pro, the monitor does not like any sort of dongles but works great plugged in directly with an HDMI to USB cable.
I believe in this video, we only show the Google Home, which does let you play music through it - but isn't actually a bluetooth device, and requires wifi in order to operate properly. If you believe this answer is incorrect, respond with a time code so I can find the clip and make sure I answered properly. If you're ultimately just asking for a personal reference for a bluetooth speaker, I have had a "Big Jambox" from Jawbone for the last 5-6 years and it's been pretty wonderful. The sound quality over all is pretty good for it, it's incredibly loud, and years later still holds a great charge.
Sadly, after I wrote this, Google tells me that the Big Jambox has been discontinued. I might tell you to check out Anker's product line depending on what your needs are.
Photoshop is definitely not a browser based online app - do you mean the photoshop knockoff, Pixlr? If so, then yes! If it is a TRULY browser based app, you can use it. I have one wish for chromebooks, and that's for them to support the Adobe suite!
Are you asking or trying to be funny? We've been pretty transparent repeatedly on our channel about the inability to do those things. I've been clear before that my Chromebook gets used for EVERYTHING aside from editing my content for this channel. If you were just trying to be funny, then 'hahaha!'
My comment was seemingly a joke when I said "Yes chromebooks are awesome!!!!! " But the point I was trying to make was serious. I mean really, What is the purpose of spending $1,000+ To get a Mac or Windows Pc for doing things like Photoshop, Music production, Live streaming, Video Editing Web browsing etc and then spending another $200 - $400 On a Chromebook When A Chromebook can pretty much only do what you can do In a web browser when you have access to a web browser. So many things like Traveling for example, is made harder with 2 laptops, You need to spend more money for a device that there is no place for them. There is simply no reason to have 2 computers. That is what I Think And my opinion on chromebooks. (Ok Admittedly, Maybe I am not the target audience for these things but still though)
I understand your point - but I can't imagine anyone needing to lug two devices with them. If I was planning to go out and produce content, I probably wouldn't drag a chromebook AND another laptop - that seems like I'd be creating a problem that doesn't exist simply to have a problem. As someone who professionally produces content all over the country, I have yet to be in your described predicament. I think i've made it clear here before that we are very obviously aware about the Chrome OS's inability to let me create freely, the way a full fledged computer rig would...but that's not the point. These can be fairly productive, while also being designed to easily consume media at a very low cost. I can't legitimately compare a $1000+ machine to a $300 computer. Would you compare a tablet to a Mac? Probably not - but I'd argue that a tablet owner and a Chromebook owner might not be so dissimilar.
Dig the energy, thanks! One of the things I am really liking about recent events in the tech world is that the Chrome and Microsoft worlds seem to have opened up a diplomatic dialog. That as a bi-user (windows & Google) They seem less intent on competing and more allowing for coexistence and use. Even interaction of use. I am thinking that will only get better. But like a family reunion. It's all good until someone says; "what's that supposed to mean?" And a fight breaks out. Forgot, really well edited, too!
Thanks so much for the kind words Dan - one of my favorite pieces I've ever gotten to make here. It sounds like you've been to my family gatherings...hahaha!
There are disk drives on chromebooks. You cannot install a Windows application on a Chromebook as the OS can't open them. You can access MS Office and their products through Microsoft 365 and their other app versions, but I would recommend you look into Google's own suite of products like Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides which are free and included with all Chrome devices.
I just need a basic laptop so I guess a chromebook is perfect for me. I have a Windows 10 Desktop that's really slow and such, I'm just beginning for a faster computer such as a chromebook lol. Also I had a question, so with that 100gb storage thing can you say download offline music from apps like Spotify to the cloud or would that require a microSD card for expandable local storage?
Just ordered my first chromebook (lenovo yoga) last night. I have been looking at getting a laptop for a few months now but dont need it for gaming as I have my desktop. And after starting my new job at a school in the tech department I have to handle cheap chromebooks every day and decided I would give them a try this time after I explored an acer 740 and a samsung pro. Just want it for browsing the web, watching youtube, accessing my gmail and my google docs/drive as it's what my work uses plus I was using drive before my new job already.
Love the energy of this video, and thanks so much for the info! I have been doing a ton of research into making my first leap away from Mac and videos like this are making me feel so much more secure about switching to a Chromebook. Thanks! :D
What Chromebooks currently come with a stylus? .....and which do you recommend out of those? Always been a Windows user but I currently have a Dell 3180 that I picked up for very little. Love it and looking to move up but don't want to spend as much as a Pixel cost. Btw, I bought my mom a Toshiba chromebook about 3 years ago because she constantly got viruses in Windows and she loves it. The backlit keyboard was great on those!
I'd probably point you towards the Acer Spin 11 if you're looking for a budget model - otherwise, the Samsung Chromebook Plus has one too! The Acer's model is much more like a traditional pencil, where as the Samsung's is much thinner and reminiscent of what they might make for their Note phones. Hope this helps!
